Sandra Bullock is officially the best paid lady in Hollywood, as Forbes release their annual list of money-makers. But while she might be commanding big bucks, Sandy is way behind her male counterparts.
According to the Forbes' list the 50-year old actress was the highest paid actress from June 2013 to July 2014, pocketing $51 million. That impressive figure was thanks to Sandy's huge year at the box office, with her seven time Oscar winner Gravity taking in $716 million around the world.
She also had big success with The Heat, with the Melissa McCarthy co-starring flick taking in an estimated $230 million. In fact those two, were the only movies Sandra made in the past year, her first features since 2011 which just proves quality wins out over quantity.
Sandra has still got a way to go to match the paychecks of her male co-stars
With those two movies, Sandra also managed to beat out younger counterparts like number two on the list, Jennifer Lawrence. The 23-year-old netted $34 million in the past year, largely thanks to her starring role in The Hunger Games franchise as well as her second Oscar nominated team-up with David O.Russell, American Hustle.
While these ladies might at first glance seem to be raking in the big bucks, when compared to the recently released Forbes list of top earning male actors, there's some big and worrying differences in the size of paychecks.
If Sandy and her $51 million were on the male list, she would drop to number three, behind Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson at $52million and way, way short of Robert Downey Jr's whopping $75 million earnings. That's a massive $24 million difference between the two number one highest earners.
Robert Downey Jr was recently named the highest paid actor thanks the huge success of his Iron Man role
It's even worse news for the other ladies, as JLaw's $34 million would see her miss the top five completely on the male list, with Chris Hemsworth ($37 million), Leonardo DiCaprio ($39 million), her American Hustle co-star Bradley Cooper ($46million), Johnson and Downey Jr all easily out-earning her.
Take a look at how the figures stack up:
1. Robert Downey Jr $75 million
2. Dwayne Johnson $52 million
3. Sandra Bullock $51 million
4. Bradley Cooper $46 million
5. Leonardo DiCaprio $39 million
6. Chris Hemsworth $37 million
7. Jennifer Lawrence $34 million
8. Jennifer Aniston $31 million
9. Gwyneth Paltrow $19 million
10. Angelina Jolie/Cameron Diaz $18 million
Earlier this year Sandra's $70 million deal for Gravity made headlines, suggesting barriers were being broken down in the fight for Hollywood equality. The lucrative deal of a reported $20 million upfront against 15 percent of the first-dollar gross as well as a percentage of DVD revenues, was held up as a shining example of Sandy closing the pay gap.
But that deal is an exception to the rule. With reports claiming the studio paid the big bucks because they were "desperate" to sign a female lead after Angelina dropped out, this kind of pay is definitely not the norm for the females. And even with that huge pay check and a critical and commercial smash of a movie, Sandy has barely made a dent on Robert Downey's take home total.
