In 2013 Campbell Newman, premier of the state of Queensland, declared that 26 motorcycle clubs were to be classified criminal organisations. He then announced "the toughest laws in the nation," a set of strict anti-association laws aimed at snuffing out bikie gangs altogether. The new laws prohibited club members from meeting in groups larger than two, barred them from certain jobs, and forced anyone on a Harley to prove they weren't a part of a criminal gang. This has made life difficult for all riders, and just about impossible for club members. It also drove an upswing of arrests for both. So are the laws working? And more importantly, do they make sense? We hung out with the president of Queensland's largest outlaw club, the Rebels, to see for ourselves. Just for fun we decided while traveling in Australia that we'd like to try eating Australian snacks and Australian junk food reacting to it for the first time - in the form of a taste test - from our apartment (#Room753) here in the Gold Coast. We decided to key in mostly on Australian chocolate bars, beverages and crisps. All of the food items we were trying for the first time. Some of the thinks we tried tasting included as follows: 1) Shapes 2) Freckles 3) Tim Tam 4) Bowen Mango Macadamia chocolate balls 5) Fantales 6) Chicos 7) Lamington 8) Chokito 9) Violet Crumble 10) Cherry Ripe 11) Mint Pattie 12) Anzac Biscuits 13) Kirk's Olde Stoney Ginger Beer 14) Bundaberg Ginger Beer Overall, we liked most of the Australian food we tried; however, certain items such as Fantales and Chicos were not immediate hits with our taste buds. What we liked the most most were Chokito, Cherry Ripe, Lamington and Shapes crackers. Hopefully, this travel food video will give you some great ideas for Australian snacks and Australian junk food to try while sampling various forms of Australian cuisine. DOGS 101 - Australian Cattle Dog [ENG]
The Australian Cattle Dog (ACD or Cattle Dog), is a breed of herding dog originally developed in Australia for driving cattle over long distances across rough terrain. In the 19th century, New South Wales cattle farmer Thomas Hall crossed the dogs used by drovers in his parents' home county, Northumberland, with dingoes he had tamed. The resulting dogs were known as Halls Heelers. After Hall's death in 1870, the dogs became available beyond the Hall family and their associates, and were subsequently developed into two modern breeds, the Australian Cattle Dog and the Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog. Robert Kaleski was influential in the Cattle Dog's early development, and wrote the first standard for the breed. The Australian Cattle Dog is a medium-sized, short-coated dog that occurs in two main colour forms. It has either brown or black hair distributed fairly evenly through a white coat, which gives the appearance of a "red" or "blue" dog. It has been nicknamed a "Red Heeler" or "Blue Heeler" on the basis of this colouring and its practice of moving reluctant cattle by nipping at their heels. Dogs from a line bred in Queensland, Australia, which were successful at shows and at stud in the 1940s, were called "Queensland Heelers" to differentiate them from lines bred in New South Wales; this nickname is now occasionally applied to any Australian Cattle Dog. As with dogs from other working breeds, the Australian Cattle Dog has a high level of energy, a quick intelligence, and an independent streak. It responds well to structured training, particularly if it is interesting and challenging. It was originally bred to herd by biting, and is known to nip running children. It forms a strong attachment to its owners, and can be protective of them and their possessions. It is easy to groom and maintain, requiring little more than brushing during the shedding period. The most common health problems are deafness and progressive blindness (both hereditary conditions) and accidental injury; otherwise, it is a robust breed with a lifespan of 12 to 14 years. Australian Cattle Dogs now participate in a range of activities beyond the herding they were bred for, including competing with their owners in sporting events and working as assistance dogs.- published: 10 Feb 2014
