Kool FM

Kool FM is a London pirate radio station that also broadcasts as an internet radio station, started on 28 November 1991.

History

Kool FM has stated that it has been "the very first pirate station ever to play Hardcore Jungle".Simon Reynolds called it "London's ruling pirate station" in an account of the beginnings of jungle music in the early to mid 1990s. Similarly, Billboard magazine referred to Kool FM as "leading jungle station" in a 1995 report about the genre.

In January 1996, Kool FM Midlands started broadcasting to the Midlands on 105.6 FM, based in Birmingham; by then dedicated to drum'n'bass.

In the same year, Kool FM featured in a BBC documentary about pirate radio.

In 1998, U.S. magazine Vibe compared it favorably to Kiss FM (a former London pirate radio station which had become legal): "Meanwhile, U.K. pirates like Kool FM and Hard FM continue to broadcast even better music without interference from authorities."

A 2002 article in the Evening Standard reported that Kool FM was making profits from advertising and organizing raves.

KOOL-FM

KOOL-FM is a commercial Classic Hits music radio station in Phoenix, Arizona, broadcasting on 94.5 FM. The station is owned by CBS Radio. The station features the hits of the late 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s and is one of the top performing stations in Phoenix. The focus is 1964 to 1979. Its studios are located in downtown Phoenix, and its transmitter is in South Mountain Park.

History

KOOL-FM began programming oldies music in 1971, the first radio station ever to carry the format, as a format brought to the station by Jerry Osborne, who used the air name Dan Coffey. Since the station did not have an oldies library, Osborne supplied all of the music from his own collection. The Dan Coffey Show, which aired on Saturday and Sunday nights, from 6:00 to midnight, immediately became the most popular program on KOOL-FM — so much so that they hired a woman (Pam MacKenzie) whose only job it was to answer the flood of calls and music requests for the Dan Coffey Show. At the time, no other station in the Phoenix market had an oldies format, and Osborne was given the freedom by KOOL-FM (then owned by Gene Autry) to play anything he wanted.

CJEG-FM

CJEG-FM is a Canadian radio station that broadcasts a hot adult contemporary format at 101.3 FM in Bonnyville, Alberta, branded as KOOL 101.3 FM. The station is owned by Newcap Broadcasting.

The station was licensed by the CRTC on March 10, 2006. Testing began on May 5 and the station officially began broadcasting two weeks later.
