Major general or major-general is a military rank used in many countries. It is derived from the older rank of sergeant major general. A major general is a high-ranking officer, normally subordinate to the rank of lieutenant general and senior to the ranks of brigadier and brigadier general. Where relevant, major general has a NATO code of OF-7, and is considered to be a two-star rank. A major general in most armies commands a division, however in some countries he commands a brigade.

In the old Austro-Hungarian Army, the major general was called a generalmajor. Today's Austrian Federal Army still uses the same term.

In the Canadian Forces, the rank of major-general (MGen) (major-général or Mgén in French) is an Army or Air Force rank equal to a rear-admiral of the Navy. A major-general is a general officer, the equivalent of a naval flag officer. A major-general is senior to a brigadier-general or commodore, and junior to a lieutenant-general or vice-admiral. Prior to 1968, the Air Force used the rank of air vice-marshal instead.

Spring were a 1970s pop music duo (known outside the United States as American Spring), made up of sisters Diane Rovell and Marilyn Wilson, who had earlier been members of girl group The Honeys.

As with the earlier Honeys, Beach Boy Brian Wilson (Marilyn's then-husband) played an integral role with Spring, producing much of their recorded material.

A 1972 album release didn't sell well in its time, but has since become a sought-after collectible. Other singles followed, along with album-oriented material, only some of which saw release. The duo unfortunately never caught on widely, and with the divorce between Marilyn and Brian, Spring became dormant.

Rhino Records issued an anthology of Spring's music during 1988, and a 1992 Capitol Records Honeys collection included several previously-unissued Spring tunes. The Honeys also re-formed during the 1990s, to perform locally around Hollywood.

Major General Athar Abbas is a two-star general and the current military spokesperson for the Pakistan Defence Forces who replaced Major General Waheed Arshad as the new Director General of Inter Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) on January 14, 2008.

General Abbas was commissioned in October 1976 in the 54th PMA Long Course from the Pakistan Military Academy, Kakul into the Armoured Corps. He has held various command, staff and instructional appointments that include command of an armoured regiment, armoured brigade and armoured division. He has been General Staff Officer (Operations) in various armoured formations. He is a graduate of Command and Staff College, Quetta and Armed Forces Staff College, Malaysia.

He is a participant of the Executive Course at Asia Pacific Centre for Security Studies, Hawaii, USA. He has attended Armed Forces War Course and National Defence Course at the National Defence College, Islamabad. He has been on the faculty of Command and Staff College, Quetta and National Defence College, Islamabad. He holds a Masters Degrees in War Studies as well as Strategic Studies from Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad. He was promoted to Major General in June 2005 and has commanded an armoured division in Kharian from June 2005 to June 2007.

Anthony "Tony" Cucolo is a United States Army Major General. MG Cucolo was the Commanding General 3rd Infantry Division and Fort Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia.

Major General Tony Cucolo was commissioned a Second Lieutenant of infantry in 1979 serving 16 of the past 29 years in infantry and armor divisions. He commanded two companies and was an operations officer at both the battalion and brigade level. He commanded an Infantry battalion in Germany and deployed his unit as a combined arms task force for the first eleven months of the Balkans NATO Implementation Force (IFOR) in the contested area of Brčko, Bosnia. Cucolo also commanded 3rd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, and was the Assistant Division Commander for the 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York. While in this capacity, he deployed to Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom and served as Deputy Commanding General, CJTF-180, during the 10th Mountain Division's service there in 2003-2004.
