So it looks like updates to the Obama era trade sanctions with Russia, VEPR rifles and shotguns are now banned from import. Recent bankruptcy filings by Molot, the manufacturer of VEPR firearms, and their possible acquisition by Kalashnikov Concern led to the Department of the Treasury updating the sanction to include Molot. This is a sad blow to the gun community indeed.

Vepr
The Vepr (Ukrainian: Вепр, wild boar) was announced in 2003 as the first indigenous Ukrainian assault rifle, designed by the National Space Agency of Ukraine. Note that on the Ukrainian Government Portal website (see below in External Links), the Vepr is classed as a sub-machinegun. It is one of several bullpup conversions of the conventional AK-74 design, along with the Polish Kbk wz. 2005 Jantar, the Chinese Norinco Type 86S, the Russian OTs-14 Groza, the Finnish Valmet M82 and the South African Vektor CR-21.
History
Prior to the development of the Vepr, the personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were equipped mainly with the Soviet AKM and AK-74 assault rifle designs.
The first Vepr rifle was shown on 28 August 2003. Only ten Veprs were made until 9 October 2004
In addition, one test prototype («Malyuk») was made in 2005
The Ukraine's Ministry of Defense has declared intentions to purchase thousands of Veprs by the year 2010 but as on 5 March 2014 there was not a single Vepr in Ukrainian Army

VEPR
VEPR (Ukrainian: автомобіль Високо-Ефективної ПРохідності ( Avtomobil Visoko-Ephektinoi Prchidnosti) is a Ukrainian multi-purpose off-road vehicle designed and assembled by the Kremenchuk Automobile Assembly Plant. (The name is a pun:Ukrainian: Вепр, wild boar.)
The designers' goal was to create an SUV-type vehicle which would have the same terrain ability traditionally reserved for larger cargo vehicles, such as the KrAZ and Ural. The patent has been received for the passenger-cargo vehicle.
The per-unit price of the VEPR is estimated to be between $50,000 and $250,000.
Description
Fuel consumption is said to be modest for a vehicle of this size, with 14 liters per 100 km in urban areas, and 11.5 liters per 100 km on highways. This makes the VEPR more fuel-efficient than the smaller Hummer.

The new VEPR 12 ga shotgun is easily one of the best semi-auto shotguns on the market. The Vepr 12 has a number of features that set it apart from the Saiga 12ga shotgun and really make this a unique out of the box scattergun. Atlantic Firearms: http://www.atlanticfirearms.com Bonesteel Arms: http://bonesteelarms.com SGM Tactical: http://sgmtactical.com More info on the malfunctions with a sight set forward: Due to the overwhelming number of comments regarding the EOTech failures, I wanted to give you more info about the testing I did. What I can say is that I know for certain the malfunctions have absolutely nothing to do with the EOTech specifically. The malfunctions will happen with Aimpoint Pro's, Comp M2, M3's, and even a Sparc mounted with a metal riser mount. These malfunctions were confirmed by the importer and several owners have contacted me saying they have noticed the same issue. Inside the top cover there is a rivet that holds the rail in place. One rivet in the front, over the bolt carrier, and one in the rear. The one in the front sticks down 1/8th of an inch or so while the rear rivet is recessed. The front rivet contacts the bolt carrier during firing, you can clearly see the marks on it. The carrier jumps upwards upon firing and hits the top cover. As evidence of this, my shotgun will eventually pop the top cover open if I fire enough rounds through it due to the carrier hitting the top cover. It usually takes 5-6 rounds. The importer noticed this rivet and removed some material from it and their shotgun worked with an EOTech in that position. I removed some material from my rivet but I still have the issue. I didn't want to remove too much material. As long as you mount the sight to the rear, every sight I mounted worked just fine without causing any malfunctions. So it looks like updates to the Obama era trade sanctions with Russia, VEPR rifles and shotguns are now banned from import. Recent bankruptcy filings by Molot, the manufacturer of VEPR firearms, and their possible acquisition by Kalashnikov Concern led to the Department of the Treasury updating the sanction to include Molot. This is a sad blow to the gun community indeed.

Due to the overwhelming number of comments regarding the EOTech failures, I wanted to give you more info about the testing I did.
What I can say is that I know for certain the malfunctions have absolutely nothing to do with the EOTech specifically. The malfunctions will happen with Aimpoint Pro's, Comp M2, M3's, and even a Sparc mounted with a metal riser mount. These malfunctions were confirmed by the importer and several owners have contacted me saying they have noticed the same issue.
Inside the top cover there is a rivet that holds the rail in place. One rivet in the front, over the bolt carrier, and one in the rear. The one in the front sticks down 1/8th of an inch or so while the rear rivet is recessed. The front rivet contacts the bolt carrier during firing, you can clearly see the marks on it. The carrier jumps upwards upon firing and hits the top cover. As evidence of this, my shotgun will eventually pop the top cover open if I fire enough rounds through it due to the carrier hitting the top cover. It usually takes 5-6 rounds.
The importer noticed this rivet and removed some material from it and their shotgun worked with an EOTech in that position. I removed some material from my rivet but I still have the issue. I didn't want to remove too much material. As long as you mount the sight to the rear, every sight I mounted worked just fine without causing any malfunctions.
