The Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) is a state corporation established in 1986, under the science and Technology Act (Cap 250) of the Laws of Kenya. The Act has since been repealed by the Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Act No. 28 of 2013. KEFRI undertakes research in forests and allied natural resources. The institute conducts research and development activities under five thematic areas namely: Forest productivity and Improvement; Biodiversity and Environment Management; Forest Products Development; Social-economics, Policy and Governance and Technical Suport Services.KEFRI also has a division that offers enterprise services.


Location

KEFRI headquarters is located in Muguga 23 km north-west of Nairobi, off Nairobi - Nakuru highway. KEFRI has 5 regional research programmes with head offices in Gede, Kitui, Muguga, Londiani and Maseno. The institute has 1 national centre located in Karura.
