www.TravelsWithSheila.com The 787 Dreamliner is now my favorite form of transportation. This was our first flight on one and I had no end of fun pressing a button that automatically darkens or lightens up windows, marveling over bathroom doors that slide on an angle and watching "mood lights" change in the cabins. It didn't hurt that we were in Business Class but it's really all about the plane. Looking forward to a wider range of destinations offered by airlines on the absolute "dream of a Dreamliner"...- published: 30 May 2014

http://www.TravelsWithSheila.com It is a 8,235 kilometers/5,117 miles and 10:45 hours from San Francisco to Tokyo's Narita Airport, a l-o-n-g flight! I always try to choose the Upper Deck on a United Airlines 747 for its secluded atmosphere when lucky enough to use Global Upgrades to Business Class. Avoid the first two rows like the plaque in Upper Deck; close to the toilets which makes it almost impossible to sleep with doors constantly opening and closing. For a while, United was on an upward curve with inflight meals, a short-lived amount of time since food has gone downhill again. But I am easy to please; a cup of nuts, wine, ice cream sundae, and snacks half way through the flight make me happy. The film shows various planes operated by United Airlines, with a focus on the safety, training and luxury offered by their newest aircraft. Technical innovations of the DC-8 are showcased, along with the red carpet service you can expect when travelling with United Airlines. The Douglas DC-8 (also known as the McDonnell Douglas DC-8) is a four-engine long range narrow-body jet airliner built from 1958 to 1972 by the Douglas Aircraft Company. Launched after the competing Boeing 707, the DC-8 nevertheless kept Douglas in a strong position in the airliner market, and remained in production until 1972 when it began to be superseded by larger wide-body designs, including the Boeing 747, McDonnell Douglas DC-10 and Lockheed L-1011 TriStar. The DC-8's design allowed it to hold slightly more cargo than the 707 and some re-engined DC-8s are still in use as freighters. United Airlines flight 1463 left Chicago's O'Hare Airport to Santa Ana's John Wayne Airport at 8:18 p.m. before it was diverted to Mid-Continent Airport in Wichita. Passengers aboard heard a loud bang and a hiss as the emergency slide inflated. The Boeing 737-700 dropped from 38,000 feet at 10:05 p.m. to 11,000 feet just 12 minutes later due to a loss of cabin pressure, according to FlightAware.com.
