Prices are generally pretty steep but there is a small band of Oslo eateries where fine food and low prices co-exist. The restaurant seats up to 90 diners, while the attached bar is buzzing on theatre nights and is a good spot for a postprandial aperitif. Address: Hotel Continental, Stortingsgata, Oslo, Norway Spisestedet Feinschmecker Price: Expensive One of Oslo's four Michelin-starred restaurants, Feinschmecker opened in 1990 and rapidly gained a reputation as one of the city's best eateries. It is located in the Frogner district to the east of the city centre. In addition to its à la carte menu, it offers a fixed priced daily five-course meal. An extensive wine list and a daily vegetarian alternative are available. Address: Balchens Gate 5, Oslo, Norway Bagatelle Price: Expensive Probably Norway's best-known restaurant, Bagatelle was reopened in 2011 following a period of renovation and is currently the holder of one Michelin star. French style is very much the order of the day here. The menu is based on an eight or 11 courses containing a broad selection of innovative dishes using ingredients from local suppliers; and the food is complemented with a choice of more than 400 wines. The interior is decorated with works by well-known artists. The 1920s-style décor is slightly off-putting but very cosy in winter when the logs in the open fireplace are lit. Located next to the National Theatre, this is a legendary Viennese-style establishment with a unique ambience. Probably the best place in town for celebrity spotting, it was listed by the New York Times as one of the 10 most popular cafés in the world.
