Dynamite MC

Dynamite MC (born Dominic Smith, 7 October 1973, Germany) is an MC from Gloucester, England. He originally gained prominence in jungle/drum and bass, working with Roni Size and Reprazent, but has also released hip hop material.

Career

He started his MCing career on pirate radio station Crush FM, broadcasting in Gloucester, South West England during the early 1990s. He met Roni Size in 1994 and began MCing for the Full Cycle crew. When the Bristol collective formed the live band Reprazent, Dynamite shared vocal duties with singer, Onallee. Their debut album New Forms won the Mercury Music Prize in 1997. Dynamite's role was enhanced for Reprazent's second album, the hip-hop influenced In the Mode (2000).

Solo work

Following this, Dynamite collaborated with a range of artists including The Nextmen, High Contrast, Caspa, Netsky, DJ Skitz, Scratch Perverts, Andy C and DJ Zinc, releasing a solo album The World of Dynamite (2004). In 2006, a remix CD, Big Man Talk was released on the Strong Records label (featuring samples from Enya and Kanye West). A third album, Styles Galore was set to follow in 2006.

Ms. Dynamite

Niomi Arleen McLean-Daley (born 26 April 1981), better known as Ms. Dynamite, is an English hip hop and R&B recording artist, rapper-songwriter, and record producer. She is the recipient of the Mercury Music Prize, two BRIT Awards and three MOBO Awards.

Biography

She was born and raised in Archway, a district in north London, to a Jamaican father and a Scottish mother. As stated on the programme Ms. Dynamite: In Search of Nanny Maroon, in addition to her Jamaican-Scottish parentage, she shares Bajan, English, Irish, German and Grenadian ancestries. She grew up listening to reggae and hip-hop music. Though she wanted to become a schoolteacher or social worker, her biggest aspiration was to be a musician. She is the eldest of eleven siblings, one of whom is a socially aware artist and journalist known as Akala, and attended Acland Burghley School in London.

Career

2001–2004: A Little Deeper

Ms. Dynamite (originally Lady Dynamite) was first known for her vocals on the UK garage underground track "Booo!", which was regularly played on London pirate radio stations and was later released as a single. While working at the radio station RAW FM, Ms. Dynamite was discovered by Richard Forbes ("DJ Sticky") at a West End club. Interest grew from all major British labels and eventually she was signed via her management Bigga Beats to Polydor Records, where she met producer Salaam Remi, who cultivated her talent. She released her debut album, A Little Deeper, in 2002, which featured hit songs "It Takes More" and "Dy-na-mi-tee". In 2003, the album was released in the United States to critical acclaim. In 2002, Dynamite won the prestigious Mercury Music Prize, for A Little Deeper. She donated the £20,000 prize to the NSPCC.

Dynamite

Dynamite is an explosive material based on nitroglycerin, using diatomaceous earth (AmE: kieselgur; BrE: kieselguhr), or another adsorbent substance such as powdered shells or clay. Dynamites using organic materials as sorbents such as sawdust are less stable and such use has been generally discontinued. Dynamite was invented by the Swedish chemist and engineer Alfred Nobel in Geesthacht, and patented in 1867.

Invention, purpose, and use

Dynamite was invented by Alfred Nobel and was the first safely manageable explosive stronger than black powder. Nobel obtained patents for his invention in England on May 7, 1867, in Sweden on October 19, 1867. After its introduction, dynamite rapidly gained wide-scale use as a safe alternative to black powder and nitroglycerin. Nobel tightly controlled the patents, and unlicensed duplicating companies were quickly shut down. However, a few American businessmen got around the patent by using a slightly different formula.

The Party (band)

The Party is an American pop band. The group was originally composed of Albert Fields, Tiffini Hale, Chase Hampton, Deedee Magno, and Damon Pampolina, all of whom were cast members of The All New Mickey Mouse Club from 1989 until 1992. In 2013, the group reunited, minus Tiffini Hale.

History

In 1990, the Disney Channel formed a pop band composed of then-current cast members of the 1989-1994 Mickey Mouse Club (also known as MMC). As part of the promotion for the band, a name-the-band contest was held. The result was the Party, which is a backronym for "Positive Attitude Reflecting Today's Youth." The group was also the first signing to the Walt Disney Company’s pop-music-oriented label Hollywood Records, which, at the time, was distributed by Elektra Records.

Success

The self-titled debut album was released in August 1990 on Hollywood Records. The first single, “Summer Vacation,” was moderately successful, peaking at #72 on the Billboard Hot 100. The following singles, "I Found Love" and "That's Why" (which brought the group into a much bigger audience, thanks in part to a remixed version and added rap vocals), peaked at #79 and #55, respectively. The album also charted at #116 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart. During this time, the Disney Channel produced a special titled "The Party: In Concert." The group’s success landed it opening-act spots on major concert tours with the likes of Taylor Dayne and Vanilla Ice. The group also appeared on various shows, such as Live with Regis and Kathie Lee, Into the Night starring Rick Dees, and The Party Machine with Nia Peeples. In the summer of the following year, "Summer Vacation" was re-released in remixed form.

Neva Soft

"Neva Soft" is a song by British performer Ms. Dynamite. The single, produced by Labrinth serves as the lead single from her upcoming third studio album. It was released in the United Kingdom as a digital download on 2 September 2011 and debuted and peaked at number 33 on the UK Chart - marking the eighth top 40 hit for the artist.
