Thanks so much for your help.Since last Thursday (15 August) thousands of Syrian refugees have streamed into Iraq. UNHCR says it is witnessing a major exodus from Syria. On Saturday (17 August), an estimated 10,000 Syrians streamed across the Peshkhabour Bridge over the Tigris River, north of the Sahela crossing. Five thousand people, many who had been waiting at the border for two to three days, crossed a few days before. This influx means that 21,000 Syrians has fled to the UNHCR Kurdistan region of northern Iraq in the last four days. Adding to the 150,000 refugees already in the country. Many of the Syrian refugees said they were fleeing fighting between armed groups. They also talked about the scarcity of food, water and electricity. SOUNDBITE (Kurdish) Biruz Rashid, Syrian refugee: We came from Qamishly. It took us three days to get here. We are escaping an impoverished life under fire and bullets that have affected thousands of innocent people. There are no jobs, no future for our children and that is one reason we came, to change our lives. The hardships were too much bare many said. SOUNDBITE (Kurdish) Reivan Farco, Syrian refugee: We had no choice but to leave. There is no work there. I thank the President for opening the border. A frantic distribution of food ensued very telling of the days of waiting the refugees had endured. Soaring temperatures only made things more difficult. People sought refugee where ever they could find it. During the course of the day, large transport trucks were brought in by the IOM (International Organization on Migration), the national and local government to take the refugees to shelter facilities. People boarded the trucks with the few belongings they brought with them. Northern Iraq has one camp, Domiz and a second one Darashakran under construction. It is expected to open at the end of August. The influx is expected to continue. Presently 1,916,387 Syrians have fled the war and registered as refugees or applied for registration.Thousands fleeing Syrian violence cross the Tigris into Kurdistan. Wounded Syrians are admitted to a hospital in the northern city of Safed, 40km from Syrian territory, where 96 Syrians have been treated in 2013 . While the Israeli army is tight-lipped about how the wounded are ferried to these hospitals, some say the attempt helps Israel gather intelligence on Syria. "Syria is Completely Contrary to Media Depictions." The known journalist Lizzie Phelan said in an interview, that she was totally surprised upon her arrival in the Syrian capital Damascus that the situation is not like she has thought it -- based on the image presented by questionable media and journalists. Phelan mentioned the image of the media, that the situation on Syrian ground a prevailing of chaos, not safe and that the Syrian army deployed in the streets. The British journalist also mentioned that she thought, based on the sold image by international media, that the anti-government protests are being held daily and everywhere. But all these thoughts were false. That`s what this journalist sees since her arrival in Syria. Lizzie Phelan said in an interview with Syrian TV, that what she has seen during her visit to Syria until now is, that the life is still normal and that the Syrian people go to their businesses and schools in spite of some problems, of course. Phelan also stated, that the Syrian capital Damascus is still very safe and that she herself moved around in Damascus alone, also in the late hours of the night, without facing any problems, danger or to see huge anti-government protests. In this interview with Syria TV, the British journalist Phelan mentioned also the huge pro-government demonstration at the Umayyad Square in Damascus and that she really was surprised with the reality of the situation within Syria. Although she should have known this before -- considering, that she traveled to Libya while the partly faked "revolution" against the former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi (Qaddafi). Lizzie Phelan made it clear in this interview with Syrian TV, that the situation in Syria is completely different from what is being conveyed to the Western population and other countries. This again raises questions about the credibility of so-called journalists and the Muslim Brotherhood-office, based in London; some call it falsely the "Syrian Observatory for Human Rights" --useful tool for lazy journalism or even propaganda journalism. In her interview with Syrian TV, Lizzie Phelan also considered that the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad came to the Umayyad Square and talked directly to the Syrian people there. Phelan stated, that it has been very interesting for her to see President al-Assad at his direct talk to the people at this pro-government rally within the Syrian capital Damascus, because such media channels as BBC and al-Jazeera still claim that the Syrian people aren`t in support with the President Bashar al-Assad. This claim is false and far away from the truth. The huge majority of Syrian people are still in support with the government or at least, with the President Bashar al-Assad. The British journalist Lizzie Phelan seems to stay in Syria a little bit longer. Syrian People Is With Bashar al-AssadTakfiri extremists Syrias insurgency killed 150 soldiers in a battle for control of an Aleppo suburb this week, including 51 who were executed after they had surrendered, according to a Syrian monitoring group that has been chronicling casualties and evidence of atrocities. The group, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which sympathizes with the opposition and reports daily tallies of combat and violence from a network of contacts on the ground in Syria, corroborated its assertion on Friday with a video posted on the Internet. The video, dated Wednesday, showed what appeared to be an execution ground, with dozens of lifeless bodies clumped against a wall pockmarked with bullet holes. The videos authenticity could not be independently confirmed, but the Syrian Observatory founder, quoted witnesses as saying 51 soldiers taken prisoner were later shot. Among the total who had surrendered, he said, very few were taken hostage. Mr. Abdulrahman said the killers were members of the Nusra Front one of the many jihadist groups, some affiliated with Al Qaeda and populated with foreign fighters, that have entered Syria to join the insurgency battling the forces of President Bashar al-Assad in the conflict, now in its third year. Other reports have suggested that not all of the executed were soldiers but some were civilians who supposedly cooperated with the Syrian soldiers and got punished for doing so. In the graphic video posted online on wednesday shows some of the executed men not wearing any military outfits but rather standard casual clothing. This is a picture that has been circulating on facebook which reportedly shows some of the soldiers minutes before they were executed. The picture shows a Syrian soldier, the one in the middle of the last row, making the victory sign. Which caused alot of sympathy along the Syrian population. The reports from yesterday also indicate that all victims in this Syrian town were shot in the head from close range The killings took place in Khan al-Assal, the town near Aleppo that both Mr. Assad and the political opposition claim was the site of a deadly chemical weapons attack on March 19. Each side has accused the other of responsibility, but there has been no independent inquiry and no confirmation that such weapons were used. A United Nations delegation visited Damascus this week to negotiate terms for investigating the Khan al-Assal site and other locations where the opposition claims Mr. Assads forces used chemical munitions. The outcome of the visit has not been disclosed. Russian experts have also collected samples from the site of the supposed attack in the Syrian town, These samples were examined in a certificated laboratory in Russia. According to the Russian Ambassador Vitaly Churkin, there is first-hand evidence that the foreign-backed rebels have used chemical weapons in this incident near Aleppo. Presidents Obama and Putin share icy encounter over Syria Sharp divisions over the civil war in Syria led to an icy encounter Monday between President Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom U.S. officials view as a major hurdle in their drive to force Syrian President Bashar Assad from power. The two leaders held their first face-to-face meeting in a year at the summit of the world's richest countries days after Obama deepened U.S. involvement in the Syrian conflict. Aides said the CIA would begin supplying arms and ammunition to some opposition forces in hopes of shifting the military balance away from Assad. In comments to reporters, Obama and Putin expressed support for still-unscheduled Syrian peace negotiations in Geneva, but offered no sign of progress in ending a war that has killed at least 93,000 people. Russia, Syria's most powerful ally, has sent weapons to Assad's forces and is considering deliveries of sophisticated antiaircraft missile batteries. Obama noted that he and Putin had "differing perspectives" on Syria but said they both sought to reduce the bloodshed and secure Assad's arsenal of chemical weapons. "We want to try to resolve the issue through political means if possible," he said. "Of course our opinions don't coincide," Putin responded. But he said he hoped "to solve the situation peacefully" and said they "agreed to push the parties to the negotiations table." Obama tried to lighten the mood by joking about their favorite sports. He cited Putin's expertise in judo and "my declining skills in basketball." Then he added, "And we both agree that as you get older, it takes more time to recover." Putin cracked a brief smile before adding an awkward admission of the tension: "The president wants to relax me with his statement." Obama arrived at the Lough Erne resort for the annual meeting of the Group of 8 industrialized nations a day after Putin had roundly denounced Western support for the Syrian rebels. After meeting with British Prime Minister David Cameron in London, Putin described the anti-Assad forces as lawless thugs and cannibals. "I believe one does not really need to support the people who not only kill their enemies, but open up their bodies, eat their intestines in front of the public gaze and cameras," Putin said, a reference to video posted online that appeared to show a rebel fighter cutting open the body of a loyalist soldier. "Are these the people you want to support?" Even before that remark, Western officials had low hopes for a breakthrough at the G-8. The Russians have little incentive to push Assad into peace negotiations while his forces have the upper hand on the battlefield. Obama's reluctant and delayed decision to arm the rebels is viewed as an attempt to turn the tide in favor of the opposition and force the Syrian leader into talks. The last time Obama and Putin met, at the G-20 summit a year ago in Los Cabos, Mexico, they barely made eye contact and seemed uncomfortable sitting next to each other. They were equally frosty Monday, sitting side by side in armchairs during their 12-minute meeting with reporters. Each looked straight ahead, unsmiling, as the other spoke, although Putin sometimes stared at the floor. The White House offered another take on the rapport between the leaders. Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes called the two-hour meeting "businesslike." Rhodes said the leaders spent about one-fifth of their time on Syria, and he tried to focus on areas of agreement. Putin and Obama agreed to a new version of the Cooperative Threat Reduction program, a post-Cold War nonproliferation program that secured or dismantled nuclear, biological and chemical weapons in former Soviet states. And both expressed cautious optimism that the surprise election of Hassan Rowhani, a moderate cleric, as president of Iran may yield opportunities to defuse the international standoff over Tehran's nuclear development program. Rhodes also acknowledged that the Russians were "more skeptical" of evidence that led the White House to declare last week that Assad's forces had used small amounts of sarin nerve gas in attacks that killed 100 to 150 people. The White House has not released the evidence or described how it was obtained, or by whom. The impasse over Syria undermined Cameron's attempt to demonstrate loose camaraderie at the two-day G-8 meeting. "I realize the scale of suffering of the Syrian people," Brahimi said in the Saturday interview, calling for all parties in Syria to cease violence. Brahimi told Al Arabiya that sending Arab forces into Syria was currently not under consideration, and that "military interference in Syria means failure of diplomatic efforts." "For me, this option is not available, and personally, this will be neither today nor tomorrow nor after tomorrow," he said. Syria has pledged to cooperate with Brahimi, 78, who among his several high-profile positions, served as U.N. envoy in Afghanistan before and after the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States, and in Iraq after the U.S.-led invasion of 2003. "Those I have met at the United Nations understand...that i cannot execute my mission without full and clear support on their part. I believe they understand that," Brahimi said. Brahimi has been in New York for the past week for talks with UN leaders and senior diplomats from U.N. Security Council nations and other countries, before officially taking up his post September 1. The envoy has reputation as a tough, independent negotiator and is also a member of the Elders, the group of former world leaders that works for global peace.
