Guinevere /ˈɡwɪnɨvɪər/ was the legendary Queen consort of King Arthur. In tales and folklore, she was said to have had a love affair with Arthur's chief knight Sir Lancelot. This story first appears in Chrétien de Troyes' Lancelot, the Knight of the Cart, and reappears as a common motif in numerous cyclical Arthurian literature, starting with the Lancelot-Grail Cycle of the early 13th century and carrying through the Post-Vulgate Cycle and Thomas Malory's Le Morte d'Arthur. Guinevere's and Lancelot's betrayal of Arthur was often considered as having led to the downfall of the kingdom.
The Welsh form Gwenhwyfar, which seems to be cognate with the Irish name Findabair, can be translated as The White Enchantress, or alternately The White Fay/Ghost, from Proto-Celtic *Uindo- "white, fair, holy" + *seibarV (V=vowel) "magic" (cf. Old Irish síabar "magic"). Some have suggested that the name may derive from "Gwenhwy-fawr" or Gwenhwy the Great, contrasting the character to "Gwenhwy-fach" or Gwenhwy the less; Gwenhwyfach appears in Welsh literature as a sister of Gwenhwyfar, but Welsh scholars Melville Richards and Rachel Bromwich, both dismiss this etymology (with Richards suggesting that Gwenhwyfach was a back-formation derived from an incorrect interpretation of Gwenwhy-far as Gwenhwy-fawr).Geoffrey of Monmouth renders her name Guanhumara in Latin (though there are many spelling variations to be found in the various manuscripts of his Historia Regum Britanniae). The name is spelled Guennuuar in Caradoc's Vita Gildae. Gerald of Wales calls her Wenneuereia. In the 15th century Middle Cornish play Bewnans Ke, she is called Gwynnever. The name in Modern English is spelled Jennifer, from the Cornish.

Guinevere of the royal court of Arthur
Draped in white velvet, silk and lace.
The rustle of her gown on the marble staircase,
Sparkles on fingers, slender and pale.
The jester he sleeps but the raven he peeps
Through the dark foreboding skies of the royal domain.
Maroon-coloured wine from the vineyards of Charlemagne
Is sipped by the queen's lips and so gently
Indigo eyes in the flickering candlelight,
Such is the silence o'er royal Camelot.
The jester he sleeps but the raven he peeps
Through the dark foreboding skies of the royal domain.

The jester he sleeps but the raven he peeps
Well now after all the corridors are darkened
When the royal crown is off your head
To your chambers I will creep not a word we will speak
Just love me while the fire light dances 'round the bed
Well there is danger in this passion
Because the king can never, never know
And on my blood I've sworn my allegiance
So I'll leave you when the sunlight comes and beckons me to go
And the silver shine is tarnished from my armor
And in battle I am paralyzed with fear
And this poison in my soul is the love we'll never know
And it finds me playing Lancelot to your Guinevere
Guinevere is sly enough to steal a little taste
And her laughter it peals into the night
Oh but forbidden fruit always stays sticky on your face
Without virtue I'm worthless in a fight
Stealing little glances at the table
I feel that this is theater in the round
But far away chasing victims in the meadow
Your love like wind, blows right by and sweeps me off the ground
Your love sweeps me off the ground
Well now it sweeps me off the the ground
Well now it sweeps me off the the ground
And the silver shine is tarnished from my armor
And in battle I am paralyzed with fear, oh
And this poison in my soul is the love we'll never know
And it finds me playing Lancelot to your Guinevere
To your Guinevere
Guinevere in my castle in Normandy
Make a new home with me come follow me down
Guinevere all my honor and glory
Will just be a story of the fall of the crown
Am I some dancing Lancelot who only falls in love
With a woman who belongs to someone else
Is it just the blood of Paris running through my veins
That sees and takes a woman and myself I can't restrain
Is this knight of cups in his noble stance
Just a jack of clubs with an eye askance
On the queen of hearts in her royal blue
I may shield the poor but I can't save you
Guinevere in my castle in Normandy
Make a new home with me come follow me down
Guinevere all my honor and glory
Will just be a story of the fall of the crown
Golden apples on the mountain this one fell to me
We are planets in a heartless gravity
I never chose to make a choice
It felt like someone else's voice
Saying all those crazy things down on one knee
Cassandra never cast a shadow now it's heading to the shore
Oh the face that launched a thousand ships is sailing one more
Guinevere in my castle in Normandy
Make a new home with me come follow me down
Guinevere all my honor and glory
Will just be a story of the fall of the crown
Love me my Guinevere
In my court, please be near
While our realm is dying
And brave knights are crying
Stay close by my side.
Lancelot felt no fear
Loved his king's Guinevere
All his love he gave her
Fought through quests to save her
Love, showing the way.
Guinevere
Golden tresses shining in the air
Spread against the jasper sea.
Sorrow beheld her face
False love supplying grace
Knowing Arthur's fights
And his trusted knights
Meant more than his Queen.
Guinevere
Golden tresses shining in the air
Spread against the jasper sea.
Love me my Guinevere
In my court, Please be near
While our realm is dying
And brave knights are crying
Stay close by my side.

Guinevere
(The King speaks)
I want to love you even more, every second, my love.
I want to kiss you everyday, and it's close to enough.
I'd like to know what to do or to say just to make you
surrender to me girl. Because I love you so much... and
it's close to enough to have you here by my side.
I've done a lot of bad mistakes and I hope that's gone
far from now.
I was foolish and did things that I didn't mean at all.
And if I could show you the way that I've changed
maybe I'd make you surrender to me girl.
Because I love you so much....
and it's hard wake up without the light of your smile.
"And I'm going crazy here while my heart dissolves in
little pieces. And I loved you Guinevere from the first
time I have seen..."
I saw the moonlight on her face. It was so pale that
the moon got shy.
And the smile upon her face left me wanting to cry.
Because what I am feeling I cannot explain,
you have made me surrender to you girl.
Now I love you so much...
that is hard to live on without you here by my side.
"And I'm going crazy here while my heart dissolves in
little pieces. And I loved you Guinevere from the first
time I have seen... your smiling face"
-- She smiled, endlessly soft and brightly.
Then she moved to my side and sweetly I have kissed her
hand...
... now I live inside your soul,
oh, my Guinevere!
How, Lord, did I get here!?
I called to the angels, they answered my pray,
but now I don't know what to do with this feeling, I
pray...
"cause I'm going crazy here
while my heart dissolves in little pieces.
and I loved you Guinevere
from the first time I have seen"
...You just need to notice what I'm trying to notice on

Guinnevere had green eyes
Like yours, mi'lady like yours
When she'd walk down
Through the garden
In the morning after it rained
Peacocks wandered aimlessly
Underneath an orange tree
Why can't she see me?
Guinnevere
Drew pentagrams
Like yours, mi'lady like yours
Late at night
When she thought
that no one was watching at all
She shall be free
As she turns her gaze
Down the slope
to the harbor where I lay
Anchored for a day
Guinnevere
Had golden hair
Like yours, mi'lady like yours
Streaming out when we'd ride
Through the warm wind down by the bay
Yesterday
Seagulls circle endlessly
I sing in silent harmony
