Before MORGUS PRESENTS, there was THE HOUSE OF SHOCK. All that remains of Morgus' first year on New Orleans TV is an audio clip of the opening and a few photos and newspaper clippings. Based on descriptions given to me by Friends of Science who remember it, and using that original audio, I have attempted to recreate this lost piece of New Orleans TV history. Enjoy!

Imogene: Maria Callas Gualtiero: Pier Miranda Ferraro Ernesto: Costantino Ego Solitario: Chester Watson Orchestra and Chorus of the American Opera Society Conductor: Nicola Rescigno New York, Carnegie Hall, January 27, 1959 (live) Carnegie Hall, NYC, January 1959, she had recently been fired by Rudolf Bing and the Met. I have posted the entire live recording: she begins in wobbly, acidic tone and ends the performance in astonishing vocal splendor. The long breath control, exemplary phrasing, chiaroscuro moonlit Bellinian line, red-hot high notes! Really, this is superlative singing, equal to her admirable 1952 Norma under Vittorio Gui in London: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRDPx8VnFtY As was usually the case at this period, Callas' male support does not come anywhere near her level...
In 1959, Gregory Corso and Peter Orlovsky accompanied Ginsberg to Chicago for a benefit reading for "Big Table" [named at Kerouac's suggestion], a newly established literary publication born as a result of censorship of the student magazine the Chicago Review. The reading took place on 29 January, 1959. In January 1959, ten experienced young skiers set out for Mount Otorten in the far north of Russia. While one of the skiers fell ill and returned, the remaining nine lost their way and ended up on another mountain slope known as Kholat Syakhl (or 'Mountain of the Dead'). On the night of 1st February 1959 something or someone caused the skiers to flee their tent in such terror that they used knives to slash their way out. Search parties were sent out and their bodies were found, some with massive internal injuries but with no external marks on them. The autopsy stated the violent injuries were caused by 'an unknown compelling force'. The area was sealed off for years by the authorities and the full events of that night remained unexplained. Using original research carried out in Russia an...
In the first part of our countdown, we recall the major news events in early 1959 and of course, remember classics from Paul Anka, Tommy Edwards, the Big Bopper, and many more!
You wild beasts and you creeping things
Get down in your place,
Down with all the absolutes
And God's awful grace.
Who wants to see this coming?
Who wants to think you do?
Better to be blind when I'm
Falling for you
Go and tell old Pharaoh
His time has come about,
His pretty houseboys laugh and sing
As they're filing out.
They set fire behind them
I see it burning into view,
High upon the mountain where I'm
Falling for you
All manner of abandon
Is just the thing we need,
Get ready for the country, boys,
The town has gone to seed.
The telephone line is sagging
With word coming through:
Put your head between your knees, I'm
Falling for you
I can quit this anytime,
It's just to help me sleep,
It stops the tiny voices
And strange hours that they keep.
Who wants to hear them bleating on,
And have to answer too?
Better to be dumb when I'm
Falling for you
So you ladies and you gentlemen--
Pull your bloomers on,
Swing up on the highest beam
And let the floods come on.
Who wants to be there wondering,
When the Wonders rage on through?
Better to say never when I'm
