Toshiya Fujita

Toshiya Fujita (藤田 俊哉, born October 4, 1971 in Shimizu, Shizuoka) is a retired Japanese footballer who last played for JEF United Chiba. An Attacking midfielder, Fujita played for Júbilo Iwata, Utrecht, Nagoya Grampus, Roasso Kumamoto and JEF United. He also gained 24 Japan caps between 1995 and 2005. He won five major titles during his time at Júbilo.

Playing career

He attended and played football at Shimizu Commercial High School (清水商業高校, Shimizu Shōgyō Kōkō) and University of Tsukuba before joining Jubilo Iwata in 1994. Playing as a creative midfielder, Fujita has played an integral role in helping to build Jubilo Iwata into one of the most successful franchises in the J. League.

Although Fujita is not as well known as some of his more illustrious teammates, this probably has more to do with his low-key manner and quiet efficiency rather than a lack of skills. As part of the Jubilo midfield, Fujita had an essential role in providing the transition from defense to attack. In 1999, his contributions to his team were finally recognized as he was made team captain and won the league MVP award.

Toshiya Fujita (藤田 敏八, Fujita Toshiya, January 16, 1932 – August 30, 1997), also known as Shigeya Fujita (藤田繁矢, Fujita Shigeya), was a Japanese film director, film actor, and screenwriter. He is well-regarded in Japan for his youth films but is best known abroad for Lady Snowblood and Lady Snowblood 2: Love Song of Vengeance, films ironically not typical of his usual style.

Life and career

Fujita was born in Pyongyang, Korea. After graduating from Tokyo University, he joined the Nikkatsu studio in 1955. At Nikkatsu, he worked as a publicist, screenwriter, cinematographer and assistant director until he made his debut as a director in 1967. His first film, about a juvenile delinquent, Hikō shōnen: Hinode no sakebi, won him the 1967 New Directors Award from the Directors Guild of Japan. After a successful sequel, Hikō shōnen: Wakamono no toride , Fujita was tapped by Nikkatsu to direct two installments in their youth-oriented Alleycat Rock series which had been initiated in 1970 by director Yasuharu Hasebe with Alleycat Rock: Female Boss. Fujita's two episodes, Stray Cat Rock: Wild Jumbo and Alleycat Rock: Crazy Riders '71, both starred actress Meiko Kaji.
