2008 Dimona suicide bombing
The 2008 Dimona bombing was a suicide attack carried out by the militant organizations al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades and Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine in Dimona, Israel on February 4, 2008.
The attack
On February 4, 2008, a Palestinian militant detonated an explosives belt at a shopping centre in Dimona, Israel.
The Israeli police managed to shoot dead an accomplice which was wounded in the first blast before he could detonate his own belt.
One Israeli woman was killed in the attack while nine other people were injured (one of them critically). It was the first 'successful' suicide attack against Israeli civilians since the Eilat bakery bombing on January 29, 2007.
Fatalities
The sole person killed in the attack was 73-year-old Lyubov Razdol'skaya (Russian: Любовь Раздольская). Along with her husband, Edward Gedalin (Russian: Эдуард Гедалин), she moved from Tbilisi, USSR to Israel in 1990. Both worked in the GSSR Academy of Sciences Institute of Physics. After moving to Israel they worked in the physics department of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and retired in 2002. Gedalin himself was critically injured in the attack and hospitalized at Soroka University Medical Center in Beer Sheva.

Dimona
Dimona (Hebrew: דִּימוֹנָה) is an Israeli city in the Negev desert, 36 kilometres (22 mi) to the south of Beersheba and 35 kilometres (22 mi) west of the Dead Sea above the Arava valley in the Southern District of Israel. Its population at the end of 2007 was 33,600.
Etymology
The city's name is derived from a biblical town, mentioned in Joshua 15:21-22.
History
Dimona was one of the development towns created in the 1950s under the leadership of Israel's first Prime Minister, David Ben-Gurion. Dimona itself was conceived in 1953, and settled in 1955, mostly by new immigrants from Northern Africa, who also constructed the city's houses. The emblem of Dimona (as a local council), adopted 2 March 1961, appeared on a stamp issued on 24 March 1965.
When the Israeli nuclear program started later that decade, a location not far from the city was chosen for the Negev Nuclear Research Center due to its relative isolation in the desert and availability of housing.
In spite of a gradual decrease during the 1980s, the city's population began to grow once again with the beginning of the Russian immigration in the 1990s. Currently, Dimona is the third largest city in the Negev, with the population of 33,900. Due to projected rapid population growth in the Negev, the city is expected to triple in size by 2025.

The mothers of two suicide bombers who carried out an attack in southern Israel on Monday have been speaking to Al Jazeera.
Despite the initial confusion over who was actually behind the explosions, both say they knew at an early stage that their sons had been involved.
One woman was killed when the bombers targeted a shopping centre in Dimona.

2008 Dimona suicide bombing
The 2008 Dimona bombing was a suicide attack carried out by the militant organizations al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades and Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine in Dimona, Israel on February 4, 2008.
The attack
On February 4, 2008, a Palestinian militant detonated an explosives belt at a shopping centre in Dimona, Israel.
The Israeli police managed to shoot dead an accomplice which was wounded in the first blast before he could detonate his own belt.
One Israeli woman was killed in the attack while nine other people were injured (one of them critically). It was the first 'successful' suicide attack against Israeli civilians since the Eilat bakery bombing on January 29, 2007.
Fatalities
The sole person killed in the attack was 73-year-old Lyubov Razdol'skaya (Russian: Любовь Раздольская). Along with her husband, Edward Gedalin (Russian: Эдуард Гедалин), she moved from Tbilisi, USSR to Israel in 1990. Both worked in the GSSR Academy of Sciences Institute of Physics. After moving to Israel they worked in the physics department of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and retired in 2002. Gedalin himself was critically injured in the attack and hospitalized at Soroka University Medical Center in Beer Sheva.
