The Newshour Debate: AAP threatens media - Full Debate
In a debate moderated by TIMES NOW's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami, panelists -- Abid Rasool Khan, Spokesperson, Cong; Vani Tripathi Tikkoo, Natl Secy, BJP; Vinod Mehta, Editorial Chairman, Outlook; Neerja Chaudhary, Sr Journalist; Satinath Sarangi, Social Activist; Dr Manisha Priyam, Political Analyst; Ashok Pandit, Filmmaker & Social Activist; Chandana Chakraborty, Social Activist; Dr Raza Muzaffar Bhat, Leader, AAP; and Krishna Kumar Saharan, President, Rajasthan Kisan Union -- discuss the issue of AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal alleging whole media is sold out, backtracking later, parties & journalists attacking Kejriwal for his comments, and whether AAP's pursuit for power aimed is at settling scores with independent media. AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal kicked off a controversy by alleging that the media is "sold" and "heavy amounts" have been paid to promote BJP's PM nominee Narendra Modi. Accusing the "whole" media of being "sold out", Kejriwal has threatened to send media people to jail after an inquiry into the issue if AAP comes to power. He later denied having made the accusation. The AAP leaders put a strong defence of Kejriwal's remarks in Nagpur last night (March 13). Journalists began grilling AAP leaders - Sanjay Singh and Ashutosh and Ashish Khetan, both former journalists - asking them for evidence to the charge that the "entire media was sold". Singh said the channels were "twisting" news and were projecting Modi for PM. Then when pressed to disclose the names of the channels indulging in paid news, he named four of them and said the AAP would lodge a formal complaint with the EC. Ashutosh claimed that a recent sting operation conducted by it had shown that some of the agencies which conduct opinion polls before elections are willing to tweak their findings for money. Slamming Kejriwal for his remarks, BJP's Prakash Javadekar said, "I was aghast to see Kejriwal speaking at a Nagpur rally that the whole media is sold out to Modi. And more than that he said if we come to power, we will institute an inquiry and put all mediapersons in jail. "This is a fascist tendency and emergency mindset. He is working for Congress...He is not speaking about Rahul Gandhi or Congress. He is only targeting Modi because he wants to get mileage out of it. His mindset is revealed--they are Maoists in urban outfit." Accusing Kejriwal of running away from governance, Congress' Kapil Sibal said, "He can't do anything to the media because media is competent". CPI leader D Raja said that the AAP leader has been making "hyperbolic statements" in the recent past. The Editors Guild of India has condemned the "repeated attacks" on the media by Kejriwal and said it reflected "an intolerant mindset" that resented any critical scrutiny.- published: 15 Mar 2014

#WhoWillFormGovt: National Poll Projection - Part 1
There are less than 100 days before the 2014 general elections are held. But, if elections are to be held today (Feb 14, 2014), who holds the edge? Which leadership will India vote for? Which leadership will prevail - BJP, Congress or an alternative front? TIMES NOW along with C-Voter brings you the most detailed and comprehensive political analysis ahead of the crucial polls. TIMES NOW's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami discusses the numbers, the issues and the complete picture with a host of political analysts. 543 Lok Sabha seats have been analysed. It is the first poll projection since Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi was announced Congress poll campaign Chief. Will Rahul Gandhi's outreach programmes help Congress gain ground? Will Narendra Modi manage to succeed in his Mission 272? Will Modi be able to make an impact for the BJP in Uttar Pradesh? Has the 'chaiwallah' jibe helped Modi's campaign? Will regional parties outperform the BJP & Congress in 2014? Will the DMK be able to make a comeback in Tamil Nadu? Who will form the government at the Centre in Delhi if elections are held now? Will Mulayam Singh's SP play kingmaker this election? Will AAP be able to extend its footprint beyond Delhi? Have the recent recent controversies taken the sheen off AAP national campaign? Will Mamata Banerjee be able to pull a surprise this election? Will Mayawati's BSP emerge the darkhorse this election? Will we see a hung hung or get a decisive mandate this election? Has communalism been a poll factor this election? Get all the answers to these questions from the expert analysts.- published: 13 Feb 2014
