Sky News Australia is an Australian 24 hour cable and satellite news channel available in 2.5 million homes on Foxtel, Austar, Optus Television and Neighbourhood Cable subscription platforms.

Sky News Australia launched on 19 February 1996, as the first Australian-produced television news channel. The channel was added to Austar on 1 April 2000. In 2004 Sky began broadcasting Sky News Active, its on-demand interactive TV news service. In 2008 it launched the Sky News Business Channel, and on 20 January 2009 it launched Australian Public Affairs Channel (A-PAC). It began widescreen broadcasting on 17 May 2009. In July 2010, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation launched ABC News 24 a free-to-air 24-hour news channel which competes with Sky News Australia.

Sky News is a 24-hour British and international satellite television news broadcaster with an emphasis on UK and international news stories.

The service places emphasis on rolling news, including the latest breaking news. Sky News also hosts localised versions of the channel in Australia and in New Zealand, as well as their previously operated version in Ireland. Sky News is also offered in an international version without the British adverts under the name Sky News International available in Europe and Asia.

Based at a news centre in London, Sky News started broadcasting on 5 February 1989 as part of the then four-channel Sky Television service. Sky News provides an hourly news radio service to multiple radio networks in the UK and Ireland. The channel currently has seven UK bases each with their own correspondents, and the channel can also call upon a wide range of resources and global bureaux provided by its parent company News Corporation such as reporters from Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network (its sister news and business channels).

Jacinta Tynan is an Australian news presenter and journalist.

Tynan is currently a news presenter on Sky News Australia, where she has been since 2005.

She started her career as a snow reporter for Thredbo before working as a reporter / weather presenter with Win TV, Canberra.

Prior to joining Sky News Australia she worked at ABC Television, where she reported and presented for ABC News and the 7:30 Report. She was also the anchorwoman for the ABC's International satellite TV service, the Australia Network (formerly known as ABC Asia Pacific). Tynan was a reporter for ABC News in Darwin and was a relief presenter for Australia Television News. She reported for Today Tonight on the Seven Network, then worked as a producer for APTN and Access Hollywood in London.

She has a Bachelor of Communications from Charles Sturt University, Bathurst, majoring in broadcast journalism. During her studies she was a broadcaster with on-campus community radio station 2MCE-FM.

Jacinta also studied acting at the Vancouver Film School in Canada and has written and starred in two short films, one of which was selected as a Tropfest semi-finalist in 2001.

Keith Rupert Murdoch, AC, KSG (born 11 March 1931) is an Australian American media mogul. Murdoch became managing director of Australia's News Limited, inherited from his father, in 1952. He is the founder, Chairman and CEO of global media holding company the News Corporation, the world's second-largest media conglomerate.

In the 1950s and '60s, he acquired various newspapers in Australia and New Zealand, before expanding into the United Kingdom in 1969, taking over the News of the World followed closely by The Sun. He moved to New York in 1974 to expand into the US market and became a naturalised US citizen in 1985. In 1981, he bought The Times, his first British broadsheet.

In 1986, keen to adopt newer electronic publishing technologies, he consolidated his UK printing operations in Wapping, causing bitter industrial disputes. His News Corporation acquired Twentieth Century Fox (1985), HarperCollins (1989) and The Wall Street Journal (2007). He formed BSkyB in 1990 and during the 1990s expanded into Asian networks and South American television. By 2000 Murdoch's News Corporation owned over 800 companies in more than 50 countries with a net worth of over $5 billion.
