Nightmare Insect Found in China
Nightmare Insect Found in China
One of the scariest, creepiest & largest bugs in the world is a newly discovered aquatic giant insect found in China. This creepy dobson fly species has huge pincers and looks like something out of a nightmare. World's Fattest Insect Video. http://youtu.be/7filPzTK4R4 The largest aquatic insect in the world was discovered this month in the mountains of Chengdu, China. It belongs to the Megaloptera order, meaning ithas 2 sets of wings for flight, kind of like a biplane. It’s amazing wingspan is a touch longer than a standard #2 pencil. Now since it was only discovered a few weeks ago little is known about this new king of the water scary insects, but its coolest feature is these giant tusk looking mandibles. You would think they’d be used for eating but they’re not.Assuming they are like other Megaloptera likealderflies, dobsonflies and fishflies those wicked looking mandibles are actually used for mating, and here’s why... After pupating and becoming adults these insects have VERY short life spans. After they become adults they barely eat anymore before they die. Almost all of their adult lives are spent trying to find mates, ,sound familiar? For Megaloptera these mandibles are the human version of a symmetrical face or a fit body. After the female is attracted and drawn in, the male’s uses his mandible to hold the female in place while they mate. Another unique things about this new insect is that it doesn’t have a name yet. ,Personally,I think it looks like George from Seinfeld. , So playing the scientific name game that would make it MegalopteraGeorgae. Basically you can just add "ae" at the end of anything, like MegalopteraHobbitae or MegalopteraKardashianae. Bill Nye The Science Guy - Insects (Full Episode)
Bill Nye The Science Guy - Insects (Full Episode)
Bill Nye's not here to bug you -- he just wants to tell you about insects. Do you know when you're looking at an insect? All insects have six legs, three body segments, antennae, and an exoskeleton. Insects don't have bones. Instead, they have hard shells called exoskeletons. Like a little suit of armor, an exoskeleton protects the insect's body and also keeps it from drying out. Although people call any crawling critter with an exoskeleton a "bug", the "true bugs" are insects that have special mouth parts for piercing and sucking. And, spiders are not bugs or even insects. They're built differently with only two main body parts and eight legs instead of six. If you think you have a wild time growing up, take a look at an insect's life. Most insects go through at least four stages of growth — egg (little round thing), larva (a bit like a worm), pupa (insect in a cocoon), and adult. It's a long road to maturity for an insect. Everyone's buzzing about the "Insects" episode. Don't miss it. Air date:10/8/1994- published: 06 Mar 2014
