The Prodigy is an English electronic music group from Braintree, Essex, formed by Liam Howlett in 1990. The current members include Liam Howlett (keyboardist and composer), Keith Flint (dancer and vocalist) and Maxim (MC and vocalist). Leeroy Thornhill (dancer and occasional live keyboardist) was a member of the band from 1990 to 2000, as was a female dancer and vocalist called Sharky who left the group during their early period.
Along with The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, The Crystal Method and other acts, The Prodigy have been credited as pioneers of the big beat genre, which achieved mainstream popularity in the 1990s and 2000s. They have sold over 25 million records worldwide. The group has won numerous music awards throughout their career, including two Brit Awards—winning Best British Dance Act twice, three MTV Video Music Awards, two Kerrang! Awards, five MTV Europe Music Awards, and have twice been nominated for Grammy Awards.
The Prodigy is the official student newspaper of the University of California, Merced (UC Merced). It was established in the 2006 spring academic semester. The organization was only able to release one issue that first semester, and there were no issues released during the 2006-07 academic year. In fall 2007, under new leadership, The Prodigy released issues on a monthly schedule. In January 2010, The Prodigy increased to a bi-weekly or every other week release schedule. In August 2011, The Prodigy launched a website.
The Prodigy is a student operated organization managed by an Executive Board of editors and managers led by the chief executive officer, the Editor-In-Chief. The organization is divided into three distinct divisions: Business, Layout, and Content/News. The Business division is led by the Business Manager, who oversees accounting/budgeting, advertisement sales, and public relations. The Ad Sales Manager manages the Ad Sales staff while the Public Relations Manager manages social media and creates a positive image of The Prodigy to recruit readers and staff. The Layout division is led by the Layout Editor who manages the look and feel of the content on print and web. The Website, Photography, and Graphic & Art Editors report to and receive direction from the Layout Editor. The Content/News division is led by the Managing Editor, and the Copy Editor and other section editors (i.e., News, Features & Opinion, Sports) report to and receive direction from the Managing Editor.
The Prodigy was an alleged proposed American reality TV show in 2007 that promised $1 million in cash and prizes to the ultimate winner, but was actually a recruiting scheme for an alarm sales company.
The show staged casting events at college campuses throughout the country in 2007.
Students were reportedly selected from around the country, perhaps as many as 2000. Many of the students cast in the show later claimed it was an elaborate scam by Utah-based security alarm company Firstline. The "show" was produced by "Actuality Entertainment", and producers promised the students it would air on a major network. Many students never saw any cameras, however. No show never aired. Firstline subsequently went into bankruptcy, and the state of California launched an investigation of the company's practices which led to its license being revoked.
Keith Palmer (born 21 March 1967, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, England), known by his stage name Maxim (previously Maxim Reality), is a British musician, known for being a member with rave and electronic rock band The Prodigy.
Palmer was born in Peterborough, the youngest of seven children, and he attended Jack Hunt School, also in Peterborough. He enjoyed writing poetry and verse and began MC-ing around the age of 14. He gained inspiration from his ten-year older MC brother, Hitman, who introduced him into the Peterborough Reggae Soundsystem Scene. At the age of seventeen he had his first gig in Basingstoke. Ian Sherman, a fellow musician from Nottingham teamed up with Maxim and they formed Maxim and Sheik Yan Groove, where Sherman made the music and Maxim contributed with lyrics. After recording some tracks together and not getting any attention from the record industries, Maxim decided to disband and went on a three-month travel throughout Europe and North Africa. Upon returning to England he moved to London to get more into the music and reggae scene of the metropol. Through a friend, Ziggy, he was offered a gig with a band called The Prodigy, which he accepted. He was planning to do just a few gigs with the band, but he later decided to stay.
