Make Sulfuric Acid (Copper Sulfate Electrochemical Method)
Make Sulfuric Acid (Copper Sulfate Electrochemical Method)
How to make sulfuric acid by electrolysis of copper sulfate using an inert anode. Copper sulfate is very easy to obtain in large quantities at gardening and hardware stores and provides a convenient route to sulfuric acid if the appropriate anode can be obtained. Warning: This should be done in a well-ventilated area as hydrogen gas build up is explosive. Copper sulfate is toxic and sulfuric acid is corrosive, wear gloves when handling them. The procedure is extremely simple, just get a copper sulfate solution, insert two electrodes and run a current through them. The anode, the positive electrode, must be an inert material that can withstand extremely oxidizing conditions. Very few materials meet this condition, platinum, lead dioxide, and carbon among them. Other metals, even stainless steel, are quickly destroyed under these conditions and cannot be used. The cathode, the negative electrode, is exposed to reducing conditions so the metal requirements are must less stringent. Copper is the best choice here since it has high electrical conductivity. When applying power, the current should be adjusted so that corrosion at the positive terminal and bubbling at the negative terminal are both minimized. The bubbling at the negative terminal is hydrogen production and that's wasted energy that should have gone into reducing the copper sulfate. After the solution has gone clear, filter off the particles and the clear filtrate is dilute sulfuric acid that can be boiled down to <b>...</b>

How to measure a chamber using Cerrosafe casting alloy
How to measure a chamber using Cerrosafe casting alloy
Many old firearms do not have chamber markings stamped on the side of the barrel. This makes verifying the chambering vital before the firearm can be shot. In this GunTec presentation Larry Potterfield, Founder and CEO of MidwayUSA, demonstrates the process for verifying the dimensions of a rifle chamber using Cerrosafe chamber casting alloy. Due to Cerrosafe's low melting point and elasticity, this alloy is particularly easy to use for taking exact measurements of rifle chambers for verification.

Copper pipe bus bar tinning with lead solder
Copper pipe bus bar tinning with lead solder
This is a type "L" 1/2 inch copper pipe that was smashed flat to be used as a bus bar for the 6 volt battery bank. The video shows the "tinning" process with a torch and lead solder. The battery bank is made of 3 forklift cells scavenged from free forklift batteries. This homemade bus bar can handle just over 800 amps, and it was freeeeee! We are making about 16 battery banks like this over the next few weeks. Each one is 6 volts at 650 amp hours and weighs about 300 lbs each. Another thing, the video doesn't show this, but after tinning the ends with solder you should wipe off the excess with a rag while it is still hot. Then grind the terminal on the forklift battery flat and this makes for a beautiful connection. To see more pictures take a look at my blog poormanguides.blogspot.com Richard

Pressurized Die Casting Machines for Sale
Pressurized Die Casting Machines for Sale
www.diecastmachinery.com What is High Pressure Die casting (HPDC)? In simplest terms it is a metal casting process that is accomplished by injecting liquid metal under high pressure into a die (mold) cavity. The mold cavity is created using two hardened tool steel sections which have been machined into the net shape of the desired part(s). Most parts are made from non-ferrous metals, specifically zinc, copper, aluminium, magnesium, lead, pewter and tin based alloys. Depending on the type of metal being cast, a hot or cold chamber machine is used. Casting equipment and the dies represent large capital expenditure and this tends to limit the process to high volume production. The manufacture of parts is relatively simple, involving only four main steps, which keeps the incremental cost per item low. It is especially suited for a large quantity of small to medium sized castings, which is why die casting produces more castings than any other casting process. Parts feature a very good surface finish (by casting standards), near net shape and dimensional consistency. Major cold chamber machine manufacturers and suppliers include: Buhler, Idra, Italpresse, Frech, Cannon TCS, Prince (Buhler Prince), HPM, THT, Kux/Wickes, Lester, B&T; Toshiba, Ube, Toyo, LK and Zitai. Other companies include: Weingarten, Triulzi, Wotan, Vihorlat, Polak, Colosio, Birch, National, KDK, Agrati, Urpe, and NTP. HAPPY BIRTHDAY-Mark Mikel and Sono Novo Chamber Ensemble LIVE 5-21-11
An extremely nerve-wracking yet, completely satisfying performance. There's nothing like playing with an orchestra backing you up. Violinist Cecilia Johnson and Conductor Wayne Anthony encouraged me to arrange some of my songs for a special concert with the Sono Novo Chamber Ensemble. I invited Ev Harris (drums), Brian Albright (bass), Greg Robie (b. vocals/percussion) and Chris Shutter (lead guitar) to help out and, luckily for me, they did. The song "Happy Birthday" was from The Pillbugs' 3rd album "Happy Birthday" 2004. This performance was at Trinity Episcopal Church- a huge room where a whisper becomes a scream. Amazing that it worked out with a rock group. Special thanks to Bonnie Mason, George Roessler, David Kelley and Dave Williamson for video contributions. It was professionally recorded by Dave Mariasy (Audio Matrix) but, the reverberation in the room made isolation of sound virtually impossible. At this time- Dave's still in the process of remixing. This is a rough mix put to the combined videos.

Formica fusca Duo with Larvae in New Pumice Nest
Formica fusca Duo with Larvae in New Pumice Nest
August 21st, 2009 -Moving the Formica fusca Duo into New Pumice Nest I found another pumice stone, this time one shaped like a foot LOL, so I couldn't help but create another pumice nest. I used the unique shape of the pumice stone to create one that would house and distribute water well. I truly wanted to play with the design with this nest so I tried a few new things. First, I carved the chambers deeper into the pumice stone. This was a smaller stone so I resolved to create more depth/space for the ants that would be moving into the nest. Second, I tried something really neat with the water reservoir. Not only did I make the water reservoir deeper (hence holding more water), but I also carved a thin line which lead upwards to the floor of one of the chambers. Through capillary action the water would travel upwards and come to the surface to create a sort of tiny line of water for the ants to drink. Totally experimental once again, but worked wonderfully! Third, because the chambers were carved deeper, I knew visibility might be a challenge due to darkness, so I resolved to install a skylight in the deepest chamber using clear silicon. Light now enters the chamber from the top without any ants being able to escape. Last night it took me a good hour to decide which of my test tube ants I wanted to move. I decided to move the Formica fusca duo (the former quad... I have one more formica fusca duo in a test tube, as well) because their water had almost dried out. The move <b>...</b>

Pep Boys Cleaner Engines with Techron Video
Pep Boys Cleaner Engines with Techron Video
Peter Fuentes-Afflick, Senior Engineer, talks about what it takes to have a clean engine. Engine deposits are the carbonaceous crud that forms in your intake system, where your fuel and air are mixed, and in the combustion chamber, where the fuel and air are burnt. Gasoline is refined from naturally occurring crude oil and it is virtually impossible to remove all of the impurities in the refinement process, so deposit control additives are required. However, not all deposit control additives are created equally. With low quality gasoline, you can actually have additives that contribute to deposit's formation; High Octane, Low Octane, Biofuel, and Ethanol. In the intake system, the first we're going to focus on is the injector. In the fuel injector, we have tiny holes where deposits can be formed. Specifically for the fuel injector, which is a precision instrument, you have tiny holes that introduce a quantity of fuel at the right time, and at the right atomization. So if you have deposits that restrict that fuel in those tiny holes, those can cause an upset that can lead to increased exhaust emissions, drivability problems and to power loss. Additionally, those deposits can also form on the intake ports and on the intake valves. Deposits are like a sponge, they are either releasing or absorbing fuel and that can offset the responsiveness of the timing and the amount that gets introduced in the combustion chamber. Once you get to the combustion chamber, where the fuel and <b>...</b>

2010 Texas All-State String Orchestra Video 5
Allegro from Signs of Life II by Russell Peck Kathleen Deberry Brungard, Conductor Recorded in concert by Mark Records TMEA Convention, San Antonio Texas, February, 2010 The selection process for Texas All-State Orchestras differs for string and wind auditions. String students audition at the regional level (28 regions) to earn the right to submit a recorded audition for the statewide competition. There is a limit to how many students may record at the regional level for each string instrument. During the second weekend in November, panels are assembled in one large metropolitan area of the state to judge the recordings and to select the students. The top players are assigned to the Symphony Orchestra, the next group to the Philharmonic Orchestra and the final group to the String Orchestra. The evening before the conference, students audition for seating within their respective orchestra. Wind and percussion players are selected from a pool that also determines members of the All-State Bands. These are all live auditions, starting first at the regional level (28 regions), then moving to the area regions (7 areas). The top scoring wind and percussion players in each area are selected for All-State and are auditioned for seating the day before the state conference. The highest ranked wind and percussion players are allowed to choose the ensemble in which they wish to participate. The Texas All-State selection process involves approximately 60000 students who audition for <b>...</b>
