Thousands Flock to New Harry Potter Attraction in Japan
A new Harry Potter attraction, "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter", opens at Universal Studios in Japan's western city of Osaka, attracting thousands of enthusiastic fans. Full Story: A new Harry Potter attraction at Universal Studios in Japan's western city of Osaka opened on Tuesday to crowds of fans eager to be among the first to experience the theme park's "Wizarding World of Harry Potter" based on J.K. Rowling's books and the popular films about a boy wizard. The Japan attraction is only the second in the world after Universal Studios Orlando, which opened its Diagon Alley expansion last week. English actor Tom Felton, who prays Harry Potter's rival Draco Malfoy and actress Evanna Lynch who plays Luna Lovegood in the movie series attended the opening ceremony with Glen Gumpel, Universal Studios Chief Executive Officer. "Thank you for sharing your passion and your enthusiasm for the films and books with us as all because it means so much after all these years to still have that love. And thank you for welcoming us to this part of your celebration," Lynch said as she greeted fans at the entrance. "I'm so excited to see the Japanese fans getting the opportunity to walk through this fabulous park. Very pleased to see some Slytherin t-shirts over there as well. Some home support, so thank you very much for having us," Felton said. Some fans, dressed up in their own costumes, were delighted to finally be able to walk through the "wizarding world" they have read about for so long. "I love it! We've been huge fans since the first book came out," said one fan dressed as a wizard student from the movies. "It is amazing. I am so surprised. There are a lot of magic school students as well and so the atmosphere is great," said another. After Orlando and Osaka, Comcast Corp's Universal Studios will also bring the world of "Harry Potter" to its Hollywood theme park in 2016, part of a multi-year revamp of its film-themed attractions. "Awakening from the dream" performance - The Chinese New Year Gala - NtdTv
Enjoy this wonderful song " Awakening from the dream", composed by Zhiping Kolouch, lyricist by Ming Jing, Arrangement by Tony; performed by Soprano Min Jiang Lyric: Awakening from the Dream Born into the world time and again, thousands of years, For what possibly would one come so many times? Fame and wealth—but wisps of smoke are these, 'Tis the heavens that govern life's vicissitudes. Divine, above, was each life at first breath, Success and failure pass here like but fleeting clouds. Our ordeals have reasons, each just, from before, May we gain the way, and awaken from the dream To scale the heights of the deep azure sky! 梦醒 轮迴转世几千年, 進進出出为哪般? 功名利禄不长久, 世道兴衰全在天。 生命本是天上仙, 人生成败过眼烟。 是非本是前世怨, 得法破迷上青天。- published: 21 Nov 2013

Coal Mine Fire in Australia Could Burn for Months - Fire Service
The Victorian fire service tells Australians that a fire in an open cast coal mine, that has blanketed the town of Morwell in acrid smoke, could take months to put out. Full Story: Residents of Morwell in the Australian state of Victoria have been warned a fire in an open cast coal mine could take months to extinguish, according to the local fire service. The fire, which police believe was started deliberately, has been burning for more than two weeks sending plumes of smoke over the town, 95miles east of Melbourne, and threatening a power station which is right beside it, media reports said. "A very difficult fire fight and obviously a very tense time for our firefighters to make sure that the Hazelwood Power Station wasn't impacted nor on fire," said Craig Lapsley, Commissioner of the Victoria Fire Service. TV pictures showed some residents in Morwell have taken to wearing face masks to protect themselves from the acrid smoke, which has high levels of carbon monoxide, according to the State's Chief Health Officer, Dr Rosemary Lester. "Our priority at the moment is to concentrate on the short term health effects that we know that the smoke can cause. We know that the fine particles in the smoke can get down into the lungs and that can cause short term health effects like exacerbation of asthma, worsening of heart or other lung conditions and we know that the people who are most vulnerable to these effects are people with pre-existing heart and lung conditions, children, the elderly, smokers and pregnant women," Dr Lester said. The fire service is warning residents that forecasts of warm weather next week could hamper efforts to bring the blaze under control, local media reported. Egypts Sisi Says Muslim Brotherhood Is Finished
On national television, Egypt's presidential frontrunner Abdul Fattah al-Sisi appears to rule out reconciliation with the Muslim Brotherhood movement. The former army chief removed Egypt's first democratically elected President Mohammed Mursi from power last July after mass protests and launched a crackdown on Mursi's Brotherhood party. Sisi is widely expected to win the presidential election later this month. "I want to say to you that it is not me who put an end to them. You, the Egyptians, put an end to them. The Egyptians said 'no'. On the 30th of June (2013) they said no, and now they are saying no. Their problemis not with me personally. The problem is with the Egyptian people. No-one, no matter how powerful he may be, can take steps that the Egyptian people do not agree with." During the interview he was asked whether the Brotherhood would cease to exist during his presidency,Sisi answered: "Yes. That's right." He also revealed that two assassination plots against him had been uncovered. An Islamist militant insurgency has been growing since Mursi's overthrow. Islamist militants have killed several hundred members of the security forces in bombings and shootings. Here a bomb blast in Cairo on Friday killed a policeman. The army-backed authorities have outlawed the Brotherhood and thousands of its supporters have been arrested and hundreds killed. Colombian Farmers Protest Against Loss of Livelihood
Colombian Farmers Protest Against Loss of Livelihood
Riot police fire tear gas on farmers in Colombia as they block roads to demand more help from the government after being hit by poor harvests and rising costs. Full story: Scuffles erupted in Colombia on Monday after scores of angry farmers stopped work, to demand an increase in government subsidies as compensation for falling coffee prices and meagre harvests. In the central city of Tunja, protesters blocked highways and secondary roads as they called for state assistance, after being hit by years of poor weather, crop disease and a strong currency. The cost of fertilizers and other imports needed to produce coffee has chipped away at earnings, already reduced by low bean prices and the country's strong currency. Colombia's government has already raised a subsidy to coffee farmers and called for the strike to end, but farm leaders say they will continue as they want buyers to pay a minimum price for beans. The labor disputes are putting pressure on President Juan Manuel Santos. He's taking the biggest gamble of his career by engaging in peace talks with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, Latin America's largest guerrilla group. The guerilla movement have expressed their support for the protests, as they seek to carve out a political role in Colombia during ongoing peace talks in Havana. Hidden Treasures Discovered In Bolivia Lake
Hidden Treasures Discovered In Bolivia Lake
Bolivian and Belgian researchers presented on Tuesday (October 08) the first results of underwater exploration of archaeological sites in Lake Titicaca. The Huinaimara Archaeological Project is a joint venture between Bolivian and Belgian researchers, which began two months ago and is expected to last for three years. Project co-director Christophe Delaere, a Belgian researcher, said the project aims to recover Bolivia's hidden heritage submerged under Titicaca. "It's a sub-aquatic archaeological project of three years duration. This project, between its objectives, needs to study, evaluate and protect this hidden heritage," he said. The first phase of the exploration has yielded discoveries that include thousands of gold and silver pieces as well as shards of bone and pottery dating back between 1,500 and 2,500 years. "We have found an accumulation of sediment with archaeological material from Tiwanaku, of the Incas and on top of material from the 18th and 20th centuries. We have about two thousand and two and half thousand years of history," added Dalaere. Bolivian President Evo Morales joined Belgian diplomats at the presentation of results. Morales said the discoveries revealed the richness of Bolivia's pre-Hispanic roots. "These are our roots. The pieces are of great significance because they belong to the great culture of our ancestors, a millenary culture (from) more than a thousand, a thousand five hundred years ago. Imagine that after so many years they've discovered objects of the Tihuanacota civilisation," he said. Researchers said they had excavated with sediment suction pumps an area near the Isla del Sol, located on the Bolivian side of the lake. Among the findings was a silver figurine believed to be from the Inca period (600 years ago) and ceramic pieces and gold plating believed to be from the Tiwanaku period (some 2,000 years ago)- published: 09 Oct 2013
