Malaysian Plane \'Shot Down\' With 295 On Board A Boeing 777 flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur comes down in Ukraine after reportedly being hit by a ground-to-air missile

A passenger plane which crashed as it flew over eastern Ukraine with 295 people on board was reportedly shot down.

The Malaysia Airlines plane, which was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, was travelling at an altitude of 33,000 feet (10,000 metres) when it was shot down, Russia\'s Interfax reported.

An adviser to the Ukrainian interior ministry told the news agency the Boeing 777 was brought down by a Buk ground-to-air missile.

All 280 passengers and 15 crew members who were on the plane are believed to have died, he added.

A spokesman for Malaysia Airlines, still reeling from the loss of flight MH370 in March, confirmed it had lost contact with flight MH17, which took off from Amsterdam\'s Schiphol airport at 12.15pm local time.

The flight disappeared from radar as it flew over Ukrainian airspace, the spokesman said.

A number of videos apparently filmed near the village of Grabovo, Donetsk, where the plane came down, showed plumes of thick, black smoke rising high into the air.

TV channel Russia 24 broadcast the scene said he could see the wreckage of a burning aircraft and bodies on the ground.

The plane, which one eyewitness said split in two on impact, is almost unrecognisable in pictures of the crash site, with debris scattered across a vast area.

Alexander Borodai, the eastern Ukraine separatist leader, said the aircraft was shot down by Ukrainian government forces - a claim backed by a separatist from Krasnyi Luch, who told Reuters the rebels did not have weapons capable of shooting down a plane at such height.

However, officials in Kiev denied any involvement, with Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk ordering an immediate investigation into what he described as a \

Ten years after a US-led military invasion removed the Taleban from Afghanistan, the Afghan government and its international supporters have failed to keep many of the promises they made to the Afghan people.

Hopes were high in Afghanistan in 2001 following the international intervention but since then human rights gains have been put at risk by corruption, mismanagement and attacks by insurgent groups who have shown systematic contempt for human rights and the laws of war.

Today, many Afghans dare to hope for improvements in human rights in their country. The Afghan government and its international supporters must back these hopes with concrete action to defend them.\

Thailand\'s embattled prime minister has been summoned by an anti-corruption panel to hear charges of negligence over a government rice subsidy scheme.
PM Yingluck Shinawatra\'s opponents, who are seeking to replace her, say the programme was rife with corruption.
If found guilty, she could be removed from office and face a five year ban from politics.
Thailand\'s political crisis has become increasingly violent since mass anti-government protests began in November.
Ms Yingluck, who flew to the northern city of Chiang Rai on Wednesday, will not attend the hearing in person at the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) on Thursday, reports say.
NACC officials say she will be represented by her lawyer, who will hear the charges set against her.
The prime minister, who denies the corruption charges, says she is willing to co-operate with the NACC \

The Philippines is bracing for floods, landslides and ferocious winds as a tropical storm approaching the country strengthens.

Typhoon Rammasun, also known by the name Glenda, is expected to intensify before it makes landfall in Albay, in the east of Luzon Island, on Tuesday.

Some fear it could be stronger than Typhoon Milenyo, which killed almost 200 people in the Philippines and affected 2 million residents.

The province, 212 miles southeast of Manila, is a disaster-prone province where mudslides from Mayon, the country\'s most active volcano, buried entire villages in 2006 and left about 1,600 people dead and missing.

By Monday afternoon, Typhoon Glenda had sustained winds of 68mph and gusts of almost 90 mph, according to the government weather service.

Alexander Pama, the executive director of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, said the council\'s field offices in at least seven regions, including Metropolitan Manila, had been put on alert for landslides and flash floods.

The wreckage of the Boeing 777, which came down in Grabovo, Donetsk All 280 passengers and 15 crew members who were on the plane are believed to have died, he added. A spokesman for Malaysia Airlines, still reeling from the loss of flight MH370 in March, confirmed it had lost contact with flight MH17, which took off from Amsterdam's Schiphol airport at 12.15pm local time. The flight disappeared from radar as it flew over Ukrainian airspace, the spokesman said. Emergencies Ministry workers at the scene of the crash A number of videos apparently filmed near the village of Grabovo, Donetsk, where the plane came down, showed plumes of thick, black smoke rising high into the air. TV channel Russia 24 broadcast the scene said he could see the wreckage of a burning aircraft and bodies on the ground. The plane, which one eyewitness said split in two on impact, is almost unrecognisable in pictures of the crash site, with debris scattered across a vast area. Flight MH17 pictured by Tom Warners as it took off from Schipol airport Alexander Borodai, the eastern Ukraine separatist leader, said the aircraft was shot down by Ukrainian government forces - a claim backed by a separatist from Krasnyi Luch, who told Reuters the rebels did not have weapons capable of shooting down a plane at such height. However, officials in Kiev denied any involvement, with Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk ordering an immediate investigation into what he described as a "catastrophe". The Kremlin said Russian President Vladimir Putin had offered "his sincerest words of sympathy and support to families and friends of the victims", while Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said he was "shocked" by the tragedy. The plane's last known position over Ukraine. Pic: Flightradar24/Twitter Sky's Katie Stallard, in Moscow, said media reports suggest the plane came down in an area where there has been recent heavy fighting amid continuing tensions between Russia and Ukraine. Data from Flightradar24 indicates the plane had just passed the city of Kremenchuk, around 300km (186 miles) from the Russian border, when it disappeared. Aviation expert Major Charles Hayman told Sky News: "It's highly likely this aircraft was flying along a fault line between Russian and Ukrainian defences. "It's possible the Ukrainians flapped a bit, thought it was hostile and shot it down. Крушение самолета "It looks like someone failed to recognise this was a civilian plane.". Relatives of the victims of the MH370 tragedy also released a statement, saying: "Who would do such poisonous thing to a civil aeroplane? Ten years after a US-led military invasion removed the Taleban from Afghanistan, the Afghan government and its international supporters have failed to keep many of the promises they made to the Afghan people. Hopes were high in Afghanistan in 2001 following the international intervention but since then human rights gains have been put at risk by corruption, mismanagement and attacks by insurgent groups who have shown systematic contempt for human rights and the laws of war. Today, many Afghans dare to hope for improvements in human rights in their country. The Afghan government and its international supporters must back these hopes with concrete action to defend them."

Thai PM Yingluck Shinawatra to hear charges over rice scheme For more Latest and Breaking News Headlines SUBSCRIBE to http://www.youtube.com/user/24X7BreakingNEWS Thailand's embattled prime minister has been summoned by an anti-corruption panel to hear charges of negligence over a government rice subsidy scheme. PM Yingluck Shinawatra's opponents, who are seeking to replace her, say the programme was rife with corruption. If found guilty, she could be removed from office and face a five year ban from politics. Thailand's political crisis has become increasingly violent since mass anti-government protests began in November. The prime minister, who denies the corruption charges, says she is willing to co-operate with the NACC "to establish the facts". The rice subsidy programme - a flagship policy of Ms Yingluck's administration - has accumulated losses of at least $4.4bn (3.2bn euros: £2.6bn) and has left many farmers out of pocket for several months. But Ms Yingluck says she was only in charge of formulating the policy, not the day-to-day running of the scheme. The prime minister's supporters, called Red Shirts, were reported to have chained shut the NACC premises on Wednesday in protest, in a bid to prevent staff from entering their offices. Tensions have been on the rise in recent weeks, with shootings and recent grenade attack targeting anti-government protest sites. Four children were among the dead in separate violent attacks in the Thai capital, Bangkok, last weekend. At least 20 people have died since hundreds of thousands of protesters took to the streets on 24 November. The protests have disrupted the government's ability to function over the last three months, with Ms Yingluck's opponents blocking roads and government agencies to pressure her to resign. Russian Jet Shoots Down Ukrainian Warplane Over Ukraine | BREAKING NEWS - 17 JULY 2014 For more Latest and Breaking News Headlines SUBSCRIBE to https://www.youtube.com/user/ZakWorldNEWS A Ukrainian security spokesman has accused Russia's air force of shooting down one of its jets while it was on a mission over Ukrainian territory. Andriy Lysenko, spokesman for the Ukrainian National Security and Defence Council, said an Su-25 ground attack plane was downed on Wednesday evening. Amateur video posted on Wednesday is said to show a plane being hit over Ukraine's eastern region of Luhansk. The rebels say they shot down two Su-25 jets on Wednesday. They were downed during fighting at the Marinivka border crossing, according to rebel commander Igor "Strelkov" Girkin. Ukrainian officials also accused Russia of downing a transport plane earlier. The An-26 plane was shot down by a missile over eastern Ukraine on Monday, with the loss or reported capture of its crew members. Ukrainian officials sought to argue that pro-Russian separatist rebels could not have downed the plane because they lacked missiles to hit it at high altitude. Mr Lysenko said the Su-25 had been hit at about 19:00 (16:00 GMT). Its pilot managed to eject and was rescued by Ukrainian forces, he said. Russian President Vladimir Putin has denounced a new round of US sanctions against his country, saying they will damage relations and hurt businesses from both countries. The president said that the sanctions were driving bilateral relations into a "dead end". Both the US and EU have bolstered sanctions against Russia over its perceived support for separatists in Ukraine. As shares in Russian interests hit by the sanctions fell sharply, markets also fell by more than 2.5%. The province, 212 miles southeast of Manila, is a disaster-prone province where mudslides from Mayon, the country's most active volcano, buried entire villages in 2006 and left about 1,600 people dead and missing. By Monday afternoon, Typhoon Glenda had sustained winds of 68mph and gusts of almost 90 mph, according to the government weather service. Alexander Pama, the executive director of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, said the council's field offices in at least seven regions, including Metropolitan Manila, had been put on alert for landslides and flash floods. "Our initial assessment is that there is not much on the wind. What we are wary about are landslides and flooding," he added. Philippines Rescue workers search for bodies in the rubble in the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan Schools suspended classes on Monday afternoon in some areas, including Manila and officials urged boats not to sail in the storm's path, readied relief stocks and prepared for the possible evacuation of residents. The storm's impact was expected to be felt in Manila starting from Tuesday and will be pass over the capital early on Wednesday before moving into the South China Sea. Central areas in the Philippines have not yet fully recovered from the devastation caused by Typhoon Haiyan in November. The powerful winds and tsunami-like storm surges flattened towns, leaving at least 6,300 people dead and more than 1,000 missing
