ARSENAL VS EVERTON 4-1: Official goals and highlights FA Cup Sixth Round HD
Arsenal became the first team to seal a place at Wembley in The FA Cup Semi-Finals, when they knocked out Everton at the Emirates Stadium in Saturday's only Sixth Round tie. An early opening goal from Mesut Ozil, the German's first since December, set Arsene Wenger's side on their way only for Everton to hit back through Romelu Lukaku before the break. But a twice-taken penalty from Mikel Arteta against his former club and a late double from sub Olivier Giroud secured what was an ultimately comfortable passage through. The scoreline was a shade harsh on Everton, who had their moments and will reflect on a number of missed opportunities at crucial points in the game, but Arsenal's second-half show means they are back in the final four of The Cup for the first time since 2009. And with no FA Cup title since 2005, their last trophy, Wenger's side will be looking to register their name back on the honours list of this famous competition. It was a frantic start to the game and Arsenal struck first, when Santi Cazorla slid a perfect pass forward for Ozil, who made no mistake by drilling a first time shot beyond Joel Robles. And Robles had to make two good saves to keep his side in it, first by beating away Yaya Sanogo's shot from the angle and then electing to punch Thomas Vermaelen's drive to safety. Everton had a good chance to draw level when Kevin Mirallas did well to cut back Sylvain's Distin's lofted pass into the area but Steven Pienaar mis-hit his shot wide of the post. Robles was let off the hook in the 24th minute, when Bacary Sagna's cross caught out the Spaniard. It looked to be drifting over and out, but the Everton stopper lost his bearings and turned it back onto the bar before Seamus Coleman cleared the danger. The visitors always looked dangerous on the break though and that was how they got themselves level just after the half-hour mark. It was Ross Barkley who led the charge on the right, beating Kieran Gibbs before crossing to the far post for Mirallas. He really should've scored from close range, but his off-cue effort picked out his Belgian compatriot Lukaku, who made no mistake from a yard. That set things up perfectly for the second half and, much like their start to the game, Arsenal were on the attack instantly as Robles was forced into an early save from Vermaelen's bouncing shot. But they were nearly caught out when Lukaku robbed Vermaelen on the touchline before setting up Barkley for a shot. The England man looked odds-on to score, but smashed his shot over the bar from inside the box. And that miss proved to be costly as Arsenal re-took the lead with just over 20 minutes remaining, when Gareth Barry tripped Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the box. Arteta stepped up and slotted past Robles, but after interference in the area, a retake was ordered by ref Mark Clattenburg. That didn't concern Arteta though, as he simply picked the other corner at the second attempt to put one foot in the Semi-Final for the Gunners. And that goal led to some sparkling play from Arsenal in the dying stages, with Sagna's cross picking out Giroud for a simple finish with just less than ten minutes remaining. The Frenchman's second was even better as a sweeping move from Arsenal saw two passes from the right between Tomas Rosicky and Ozil separate the Everton defence, before Giroud was left to slot home past the exposed Robles. Arsenal (1-4-5-1): 21 Lukasz Fabianski; 3 Bacary Sagna, 4 Per Mertesacker, 5 Thomas Vermaelen (c), 28 Kieran Gibbs; 8 Mikel Arteta, 11 Mesut Ozil, 15, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, 19 Santi Cazorla, 20 Mathieu Flamini; 22 Yaya Sonogo. Arsenal vs Liverpool 2-1, FA Cup 5th Round goals & highlights
A first half strike from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and one from Lukas Podolski shortly after the break gave Arsenal the advantage in this closely fought FA Cup Fifth Round tie. Steven Gerrard's penalty for Liverpool set up a nail-biting final thirty minutes, but it was the north London outfit who came out on top. Brand new FA Cup being made | Inside access
The winners of 2013-14 FA Cup with Budweiser will lift a brand new trophy at Wembley this weekend - only the third edition of the world's most famous domestic Cup. The 2014 trophy will replace the 1992 edition, which in turn replaced the first iteration of the current design in 1911. Made by world renowned silversmiths Thomas Lyte of London, the new trophy is made from 6.3kg of sterling silver and, standing at 61.5cm, is a perfect replica of the 1911 trophy. The 1992 trophy will remain in The FA's possession at Wembley Stadium. Alex Horne, General Secretary of The FA, said: "This is an historic moment in the proud 143-year history of The FA Cup. This is only the third version of the iconic trophy since 1911. "The current trophy is fragile and is too delicate to continue to repair, so must be retired for these reasons. However, it will remain cherished and will forever be an integral part of The FA Cup's rich history, having been lifted by the likes of Roy Keane, Patrick Vieira, Sol Campbell, Steven Gerrard and Tony Adams." Kevin Baker, Chief Executive of Thomas Lyte, said: "After many years of restoring the previous trophy, we are honoured to be making the new FA Cup. This sporting trophy is a national treasure, an icon of English football, and its heritage is embedded within the design and craft of the new trophy. Thomas Lyte prides itself on the skills of its expert silversmiths and this iconic symbol of competition and fair play couldn't be in better hands. "The FA Cup is a masterpiece of British silversmithing, hand crafted by Thomas Lyte's Master Silversmith Kevin Williams, who is a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths. Kevin is a world renowned craftsman, and understands the unique construction of The FA Cup, having restored the 1992 trophy for the past 18 years. Hand spun from Sterling 925 Silver, the trophy underwent the painstaking process of casting, hand chasing, hand engraving and polishing. Originally commissioned in 2013, over 250 craft hours have been used to make this stunning 2014 trophy. "When silver is restored and polished, the details will eventually be worn away. The new trophy brings back the glory of the original features, grapes, vines and fluting. Importantly, we have kept a vital element of the history as the base of the trophy will be the same and we are keeping all of the original engraving on the plinth." As official silversmiths, Thomas Lyte Silver, is one of the few remaining craftwork shops in the UK producing exquisite gold and silver trophies. The London workshops are responsible for designing and making trophies across the globe and are official restorers of silverware to Buckingham Palace. Thomas Lyte has a strong affiliation with football globally. They design and make football trophies and awards across five continents. This commission marks the next step in their partnership with The FA and British football. Hull City's Steve Bruce could create his own piece of history this weekend -- if his side beat Arsenal and he wins The FA Cup -- having already lifted the previous trophy as Manchester United captain in 1994. Liverpool won the previous trophy on its first public appearance in 1992, before Arsenal lifted the world famous Cup a year later, beating Sheffield Wednesday in what was the last final to be replayed. There have been two different designs of the trophy, the first of which dates back to the 1871-72 season and remained in circulation until 1910. The current design was introduced in 1911. This weekend's Final is the 80th time the showpiece fixture will have been played at the iconic Wembley Stadium. MANCHESTER CITY VS WIGAN 1-2: Official goals and highlights FA Cup Sixth Round HD
Wigan Athletic continued their FA Cup defence in style with an incredible 2-1 victory at Manchester City. The Latics sprung one of the biggest surprises in FA Cup history last year when Ben Watson's last-minute header upset all the odds to see off City. And the spectre of FA Cups past hung over the Etihad once more as goals from Jordi Gomez and James Perch were enough to send Latics through. Samir Nasri's strike as the home side heaped on the pressure counted for nothing as their Cup run was again ended by Wigan. It was quite an afternoon for Wigan boss Uwe Rosler. Re-united with the fans who still laud him as a cult hero following his four-year spell in Manchester during the '90s, the German would have wished for much, but certainly wouldn't have expected such a successful return to his former club. Since his arrival from Brentford back in December, Rosler's Latics have suffered just three defeats in 15 and have won their last five. Perfectly poised to make a late assault on the Championship play-off places, the DW outfit headed to the Etihad in fine form and it showed as they matched their more illustrious opponents in the opening stages. Jordi Gomez blasted over with the first effort of the game and Chris McCann's surging run should have come to more. City looked unusually wasteful in possession and just minutes after Yaya Toure and Jesus Navas had combined well to threaten former England international Scott Carson, the visitors were in front. Martin Demichelis tripped the onrushing Marc-Antoine Fortune in the box and referee Anthony Taylor pointed to the spot. Gomez made no mistake and the underdogs were in front. The home side offered little in response throughout the remainder of the half and they were made to pay in the opening stages of the second when Latics doubled their lead. James McArthur burst past three opposition defenders and crossed for Perch who beat his man to poke home. Two goals down and with their hopes of domestic dominance slipping away, Manuel Pellegrini introduced David Silva, James Milner and Edin Dzeko. The risk paid off as his side took a grip of the game, but when Dzeko headed Gael Clichy's cross against the foot of the post, their chances of a recovery seemed slim. Nasri restored his side's hopes, however, when he found the bottom corner from 18 yards and Dzeko could have restored parity twice only to see one effort blocked on the line and another fly inches wide of the post. In the end late City pressure proved too little too late and Wigan were thoroughly deserving of yet another historic victory. They will have to be at their very best once again if they hope to reach a second Final in as many years as Arsenal lay in wait at Wembley Stadium.
