Thermal Conductivity
018 - Thermal Conductivity In this video Paul Andersen explains how thermal conductivity measures the ability of material to transfer heat from a hot to a cold object. The thermal conductivity of conductors is high because the heat travels through the delocalized electrons. Heat can be transferred through insulators using phonons. Do you speak another language? Thermal conductivity
In physics, thermal conductivity (often denoted k, λ, or κ) is the property of a material to conduct heat. It is evaluated primarily in terms of Fourier's Law for heat conduction. Heat transfer occurs at a higher rate across materials of high thermal conductivity than across materials of low thermal conductivity. Correspondingly materials of high thermal conductivity are widely used in heat sink applications and materials of low thermal conductivity are used as thermal insulation. Thermal conductivity of materials is temperature dependent. The reciprocal of thermal conductivity is called thermal resistivity. This video is targeted to blind users. The second week is taught by Mark Lundstrom. (http://nanohub.org/courses/teas) This five-week short course introduces students to the thermoelectric theory and applications using a unique, "bottom up" approach to carrier transport that has emerged from research on molecular and nanoscale electronics. The first two weeks of the course introduce this new perspective and connects it to the traditional treatment of thermoelectric science. Landauer formalism provides a unified framework to study both electron and phonon transport. The following three weeks introduce latest nanoscale and macroscale characterization techniques, the design of thermoelectric systems, and recent advances in nanoengineered thermoelectric materials and physics.- published: 18 Jun 2014

Thermal Conductivity Test : Al, Cu, HMD(Heat Management Device) --- This video shows comparison that thermal conductivity of aluminium, cooper and HMD. The temperature sensors are attached on materials which are same size as 20cm. The opposite side is immersed in boiled water and the temperature is checked during the 30 seconds. Though HMD is made by cooper but much lighter than copper. This is because inside structure of HMD is empty. Also it can be applied various products and industries, such as electronics, machinery and equipment because it can be easily forming as desired shapes. If you learn more about the HMD, please contact below email.
