Robert Murphy or Bob Murphy may refer to:
Robert Patrick Murphy (born 23 May 1976) is an American economist, consultant and author. He is an economist with the Institute for Energy Research (IER) specializing in climate change and a research fellow with the Independent Institute, He was a senior fellow in business and economic studies at the Pacific Research Institute, and he is an associated scholar at the Ludwig von Mises Institute. In addition to economic subjects, Murphy writes about, and has presented an online video class in, anarcho-capitalism on the Mises Institute website. Murphy is also noteworthy, and has been criticized by economists Brad DeLong and Paul Krugman for, repeatedly predicting that the quantitative easing practiced by the Federal Reserve in the late 2000s would create double-digit inflation--predictions that did not come to fruition.
Murphy received a BA in economics at Hillsdale College in 1998 and a Ph.D. in economics at New York University in 2003. He returned to Hillsdale from 2003 to 2006, as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Economics. Thereafter, he moved to his current home in Nashville, Tennessee, where he was briefly employed at Laffer Investments. Currently, he is the president of Consulting By RPM, where he specializes in economic analysis for a lay audience.
Luke Beveridge (born 23 August 1970) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Melbourne, Footscray and St Kilda in the Australian Football League (AFL) during the 1990s. He is currently the head coach of the Western Bulldogs.
Small in stature, he mainly played as a rover and a forward. He is the grandson of Collingwood premiership player Jack Beveridge.
Beveridge won the Melbourne first year player award in 1989 and played his most games with the club in 1991.
He was traded to Footscray for pick 122 in the 1992 AFL Draft. He was seen as a depth player for the club's playing list. He managed 31 games in three seasons.
At the end of 1995 Beveridge was traded to St Kilda for pick 52 in the 1995 AFL Draft. His father was a recruitment officer for the club. Beveridge played 45 games for the Saints in four seasons. Beveridge played in St Kilda's 1996 pre-season cup winning side. He played in 7 of 22 matches in the 1997 home and away rounds. St Kilda qualified in first position for the 1997 finals series. He retired at the end on the 1999 season.
The Footscray Football Club, trading as the Western Bulldogs, is an Australian rules football club that plays in the Australian Football League (AFL). Founded in 1877, the club won nine premierships in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) before moving to the Victorian Football League (now renamed the AFL) in 1925. The club has won one senior premiership since joining the VFL/AFL, in 1954.
The Western Bulldogs home guernsey features two thick horizontal hoops—one red and one white—on a royal blue background. The club's traditional rivals include St Kilda and geographical rivals Essendon.
The club has its headquarters and practices at the Whitten Oval in Footscray, an inner-western suburb of Melbourne, Australia. The club draws its supporter base from this traditionally working class area and plays its home matches at Docklands Stadium (currently known as Etihad Stadium) in the Melbourne Docklands area, also in the city's inner-west. In October 1996, the club began to play under its current name of the "Western Bulldogs", changing from its original name of the "Footscray Football Club". The Whitten Oval underwent a A$20 million redevelopment starting in 2005 to improve the club's headquarters and training facilities.
The name Robert is a Germanic given name, from Proto-Germanic *χrōþi- "fame" and *berχta- "bright". Compare Old Dutch Robrecht and Old High German Hrodebert (a compound of hruod "fame, glory" and berht "bright"). It is also in use as a surname.
After becoming widely used in Continental Europe it entered England in its Old French form Robert, where an Old English cognate form (Hrēodbēorht, Hrodberht, Hrēodbēorð, Hrœdbœrð, Hrœdberð) had existed before the Norman Conquest. The feminine version is Roberta. The Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish form is Roberto.
Similar to the name, Richard, "Robert" is also a common name in many Germanic languages, including English, German, Dutch, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, and Icelandic. It can be used as a French, Hungarian, Finnish, and Estonian name as well.
Robert, and also the name Joseph, were in the top 10 most given boys' names in the US for 47 years, from 1925 to 1972.
In Italy during the Second World War, the form of the name, Roberto, briefly acquired a new meaning derived from, and referring to the Rome-Berlin-Tokyo Axis.

Will the libertarian message get swept under the rug over the next year, as the candidates unleash an orgy of statist rhetoric? Or are hopeful cracks beginning to show, as the two parties, mainstream media, academia, and PC enforcers increasingly lose credibility with the public? As Murray Rothbard argued, libertarians by necessity should never allow themselves to get bogged down or depressed by the political landscape of the day. On the contrary, Murray argued, we should enjoy skewering the political class — and remain hopeful for the long-term prospects...

Recorded at "The End of Politics"—the Dallas-Ft. Worth Mises Circle—on 5 November 2016. America appears more divided than any time since the Vietnam War, by race, class, faith, sex, sexuality, education, political party, and zip code. And thanks to social media, we are utterly aware of those divisions. No matter who wins the nasty contest between Clinton and Trump, millions of Americans—perhaps 100 million or more—will consider themselves disenfranchised and unrepresented in Washington. Government and politicians won't go away anytime soon, to be sure. But are we approaching the limits of what can be done politically in America? The federal government faces serious structural problems involving debt, spending, entitlements, regulations, taxes, civil liberties, and foreign policy. Congres...

This weekend, we feature a lecture by Dr. Robert Murphy, recorded at our inaugural Mises Boot Camp this past summer. Bob gave an introductory talk that sets the Austrian framework and lays out how we should go about understanding economics. It's a great refresher for those who are familiar with the Austrian school, but it's also a great primer to share with your friends who are no so familiar.
How does Paul Krugman, the New York Times's resident Keynesian and patron saint of leftwing economics, get everything so completely wrong? Bob and Tom not only have a great time skewering Krugman, but also teach you how to refute the economic fallacies that so many of your family and friends fall for. Includes an introduction by Betsy Hansen, opening remarks by Bob Murphy (2:41), The Contra Krugman Show [ep. 36] (9:45), and closing remarks by Tom Woods (41:12) and Jeff Deist (50:21). Special thanks to the Harvey Allison family for making this event possible. Recorded at "Contra Krugman: Demolishing the Economic Myths of the 2016 Election": the Mises Circle at Seattle's historic Town Hall, on 21 May 2016.
