Counter Terror Tuesdays

This is a work in progress, public brainstorming, begun on a listserve and continued here.

The President meets with some of his staff on what they call Terror Tuesdays to choose men, women, and children from a Kill List and order them killed.

The idea has arisen to create Counter-Terror Tuesdays on which we take mass nonviolent action to oppose this program of presidential murder.

We can take a moment each Tuesday to phone 202-456-1111 and/or write to the White House at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW  Washington, DC 20500 to express our opposition.

One idea is that we should all ask to be added to the Kill List.

We can take a moment each Tuesday to tweet our opposition to @BarackObama with the hashtag #counterterrortuesdays.  We could all do this at 12 noon ET and see if we start a trend.

We can also contact radio shows and journalists, especially the White House Press Corpse, every Tuesday.

Our allies abroad can take the same message to U.S. embassies.

We can also take our message to Congress.  There are six Congressional committees that could do things like hold public hearings and issue subpoenas to release the drone strike memos and force Administration witnesses to testify: Senate and House Judiciary, Senate and House Intelligence, Senate and House Armed Services.  Here they are:

I gave my name and address, then I said I had heard through news outlets about Tuesday's Kill List.  I said that in my understanding, the targeted people, are people who disagree with the administration's illegal wars, and imperialism, and I noted that "they" have not said that US citizens are "off limits". Therefore, kindly add me to the "list" as I disagree wholeheartedly with the policies that include the "collateral damage" that appears not to matter. I reminded the operator that the innocent civilians, many children, are being drone murdered. She seemed not to know much, but said that she would relay the message. Sandy

Well, I have to say, the operator I spoke with was very decent and civil (as one would expect) I asked if he knew who was on the President's kill list secret kill list? He said, well I don't think it's secret but you probably know as much as I do. It took a little while before he got that I was talking about the drones. I told him that the list was composed of people who were obviously opposed to the President's drone policy of killing people and that I was one of thoise people and that since the President has given himself the authority to kill US citizens, the I was a citizen and I lived in Woodstock, NY and could they also put me on the list? So after a little more conversation he said, "so you want me to put down as your comment that you oppose the use of drones to kill terrorists." and I said no, you almost have it right but I want you to put down that I oppose the use of drones to kill anybody. Period. But that since there was such a list to authorize that I wanted to be on it. I give the guy credit, sounded like a mature man, and he was civil and respectful all the way, as was I. Kind of fun but I do have my doubts that it will do much. Still, every effort . . . .
