Arizona (i/ɛrɪˈzoʊnə/; /ærɪˈzoʊnə/) (Navajo: Hoozdo Hahoodzo; O'odham: Alĭ ṣonak) is a state in the southwestern region of the United States. It is also part of the Western United States and of the Mountain West states. It is the sixth largest and the 14th most populous of the 50 states. Its capital and largest city is Phoenix. Arizona is one of the Four Corners states. It has borders with New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, California, and Mexico, and one point in common with the southwestern corner of Colorado. Arizona's border with Mexico is 389 miles (626 km) long, on the northern border of the Mexican states of Sonora and Baja California.
Arizona is the 48th state and last of the contiguous states to be admitted to the Union, achieving statehood on February 14, 1912. It was previously part of the territory of Alta California in New Spain before being passed down to independent Mexico and later ceded to the United States after the Mexican–American War. The southernmost portion of the state was acquired in 1853 through the Gadsden Purchase.

Winslow, Arizona is paying tribute to musician Glenn Frey. A life-size bronze statue of the late singer-songwriter Glenn Frey of the Eagles has been installed in the "Standing On The Corner" park in Winslow, Arizona. It joins the statue that many feel looks like Jackson Browne. According to KSLX radio host Mark Devine, after Frey died in January at age 67, "we thought a statue would be a great way to pay tribute to his everlasting impact on Arizona's history." The statue depicts a long-haired, mustachioed Frey — the way he looked in the early 1970s. http://hosted2.ap.org/APDEFAULT/4e67281c3f754d0696fbfdee0f3f1469/Article_2016-09-27-US-Glenn-Frey-Statue-Winslow/id-840af72b28064323800982e6068ac7a1 http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit Entertainment using http://wochit.c...

Joni and I in Winslow, Arizona while doing another Route 66 Tour. This is on the famous corner that the Rock Band The Eagles sang about- Take it Easy. The Band wrote this song while on Tour in a Diner in Flagstaff, Arizona....... In an interview with Matthew Ziegler, Browne related that the original incident inspiring the story took place in Flagstaff, Arizona, at the Der Wienerschnitzel (now the Dog Haus) at the corner of East Rte. 66 and Switzer Canyon. According to Jackson, a girl cruised by in a Toyota pickup and ogled him. Later, his van broke down in Winslow and the song was revised by Glenn Frey to reflect this location........ This was taken on Monday, 3/3/14. The White 2007 GT Mustang behind the Red Ford pickup is mine. The corner of West Second Street and North Kinsley Avenue. ...
The video footage from March 27 shows the encounter between Loreal Tsingine and Officer Austin Shipley. Tsingine's death on Easter Sunday drew an immediate outcry in the city and strained relations between the city and Native Americans. The Navajo Reservation borders Winslow. The footage released Wednesday does not have audio initially. It shows Shipley leaving his patrol vehicle to encounter Tsingine, who is a suspect in a convenience-store shoplifting that had occurred minutes before. His hand movements indicate that he is giving her orders to stop and to turn around. A shooting investigation was conducted by the Arizona Department of Public Safety, which was reviewed by Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery. He announced that no charges would be filed against Shipley.

Arizona, land of cowboys and Indians and Wild West towns plus, among its many natural wonders, the all pervasive colour red as displayed by the awe-inspiring rock formations of its mighty canyons.A thousand years ago the highly-cultured Anasazi and Hohokam Indians lived here, planting maize and vegetables in the meagre valleys and building walled towns into the cliffs of the canyons. They used the natural environment, protected caves in natural rock walls, which were accessible only by simple wooden ladders. For the past century, scientists from all over the world have investigated evidence that a gigantic meteorite crashed here, leaving behind it a huge crater: Met...

In this travel video guide to Scottsdale, Arizona, I travel to Scottsdale, the so-called "Miami Beach" of Arizona. Located just to the east of Phoenix, Scottsdale is home to some of the city's best restaurants, bars, hotels and attractions. I start of my travel in Scottsdale visiting downtown, otherwise known as "Old Town," the very walkable central part of the city full of small shops and a booming restaurant scene. It is also here that the city's roots can be traced back to the original farmers and settlers that called this otherwise barren part of the desert home back in the early 1900's. I then head east into Tonto National Park to go kayaking down the Salt River with Arizona Outback Adventures (AOA), the area's premiere outdoor adventure company. Next, I visit Taliesin West, the...

Hiking the Appalachian Trail is the antithesis of serving time at the Winslow Facility of the Arizona Department of Corrections. One similarity, though, might be John's preoccupation with what were rumours of occasional pancakes, EGGS (and three meals a day instead of the two he was getting at the Maricopa County Jail). Another similarity might be having plenty of time to think, say, one's life through. And then there is the relative simplicity of the daily routines. I am linking this talk I had with my nephew in 2009, just three months after his release from the Winslow Facility, to the Appalachian Trail in hopes that the hundred or so hikers I talked to this year will take time, maybe when winter sets in, to give the upload an ear. Thanks for listening, Mike partial transcript ...
