Catherine Astrid Salome "Cathy" Freeman, OAM (born 16 February 1973) is a former Australian sprinter, who specialised in the 400 metres event. She became the Olympic champion for the women's 400 metres at the 2000 Summer Olympics, at which she lit the Olympic Flame. Freeman was the first ever Aboriginal Commonwealth Games gold medalist at age 16 in 1990. 1994 was her breakthrough season. At the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Canada, Freeman won gold in both the 200 m and 400 m. She also won the silver medal in the 1996 Olympics and came first at the 1997 World Champion in the 400 m event. 1998 saw Freeman taking a break from running due to injury. She returned to form with a first place in the 400 m at the 1999 World Championships. She announced her retirement from athletics in 2003.
Freeman was born in Slade Point, Mackay, Queensland, where the local athletics track is now named after her. Her coach throughout her athletic career was Peter Fortune. In 1999, she married Sandy Bodecker, separating in February 2003. In 2009, she married James Murch, with whom she gave birth to a girl in 2011. In 1998, she was awarded Australian of the Year, in 2001 the World Sportswoman of the Year and the Medal of the Order of Australia.
Peter Maniatis (b. February 1970) in [Melbourne, Australia] is a TV host and boxing promoter, particularly known for his [fashion] sense and out-going [personality]. Maniatis was also an amateur boxing champion.
His father Willam is a |Greek-born] Australian and his mother Lillian was born in Perth, Western Australia.
Maniatis was lured to the TRUTH newspaper in 1995 and worked as sports journalist for over 15 years. In that time he won the Victorian Multimedia award a record seven years in a row, from 1999 to 2005.
Maniatis also co-hosts a boxing show on radio SEN 1116 AM Radio Ringside with Mark Fine on Monday nights.
In 2002, Maniatis created the KO Boxing Show, which has broadcasted over 400 episodes on C31 Melbourne the C31 Boxing Show is still going strong.
Maniatis has made a number of guest appearances on Solar Sports Asia and Foxtel covering boxing and other sports.
Maniatis started promoting boxing events in 1998 and had a contract with Sky Channel television to promote his boxing events nationally in Australia. He linked up with all the best trainers and managers in Australia, including Jeff Fenech, to put Australia's finest boxers on his promotion fight cards.
Luke Carroll is an Australian television and film actor.
Luke Carroll attended Marcellin College Randwick, graduating in 1996.
Carroll started out in guest roles in some Australian shows, including The Flying Doctors, Lift Off, The Man from Snowy River, Ocean Girl and Water Rats.
He shot to fame in 2002, where he had a leading role in the film Australian Rules. This led to Carroll having regular roles in some Australian drama, like The Alice (2005) and the mini-series RAN (2006).
In 2007, Carroll had a busy year. First up, (along with Cathy Freeman), he co-hosted Going Bush, a travel show for SBS. In mid 2007, he had finished filming in the film The Tender Hook, and also filmed a seven-week stint in the soap, Home and Away.
In September 2009, he hosted The Deadlys for SBS.
In 2009, he co-starred in the film, Stone Bros. and appeared in Subdivision. In 2010 he starred in Needle.
He has also appeared in an Australian government advertisement about being "Climate Clever".[citation needed]
