2015 Subaru WRX vs 2014 Ford Focus ST! Head 2 Head Ep. 50
On this episode of Head 2 Head, Jonny Lieberman gets his hands on the all-new, 2015 Subaru WRX, as well as one of Motor Trend's favorite pocket rockets, the Ford Focus ST. Each car costs about $30,000, sports a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with similar power outputs, and features a 6-speed manual transmission. The Subaru of course features a sporty version of the brand's "symmetrical AWD" while the Focus makes due with just the front wheels driven. However, since it first appeared, the Focus ST has wowed the Motor Trend staff with ability to dance around corners and, generally, not drive and feel like a front-wheel driver. We like the Focus ST so much that we invited it to last year's Best Driver's Car. But does the Ford have what it takes to beat the latest street-tamed rally baby from Subaru? After three full days, the team and drivers are happy with progress and hopes are high for the upcoming season. Flashback to 2010, and Launch Control revisits Travis Pastrana's last race in a Subaru before pursuing opportunities in Nascar. Fighting through the pain of a shattered leg, he makes the final race thanks to hand throttle controls fabricated by Vermont Sports Car overnight. This is Travis Pastrana, the never-say-never, in it to win it X Games Legend. In February 2014, Pastrana makes his return to the seat of a Subaru rally car. He joins David Higgins at the pre-event test before Missouri's Rally in the 100 Acre Wood. As the event starts, Travis arrives at Parc Expose and is instantly surrounded by media and fans eager to get their first glimpse of the returning star. But when all the autographs are done, and the fanfare has subsided, it all comes down to who is fastest on the road. Whether the motivation is simply a personal best... the top step of the podium... easing back into the sport... or defending a championship title...it all starts the same way. 5....4....3....2....1..... Much like the new WRX, this STI has an entirely new and significantly stiffer body structure, but unlike the WRX, it still uses the same 305 horsepower 2.5-liter turbocharged flat-four that's powered the car since 2008. Our introduction to the car occurs at the press launch at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. From there, we test the STI to see the performance improvements and drive it on one of our favorite mountain roads. How does the new STI stack up? Stay tuned to find out. Adults are large and capable of delivering a painful and potentially fatal bite.[citation needed] This is the world's only semi-aquatic viper, usually found in or near water, particularly in slow-moving and shallow lakes and streams. The snake is a strong swimmer and will even enter the sea, successfully colonizing islands off both the Atlantic and Gulf coasts. The common names for the species include variants on water, swamp or black 'moccasin', 'viper', 'cottonmouth', and 'rattler'.[2] Many of the common names refer to the threat display, where this species will often stand its ground and gape at an intruder, exposing the white lining of its mouth. The diet consists mainly of fish and frogs, but is otherwise highly varied and, uniquely, has even been reported to include carrion.
