Most major aircraft manufacturing companies have been founded by flying enthusiasts who combined the properties of an innovator, engineer, and entrepreneur. This was the case with Boeing, Douglas, De Havilland, and Fokker. But not so with Airbus, which was started by pan-European political-economic interests to counteract the U.S. dominance of the airline industry. Today, the company with its main plant in Toulouse, France, competes with mighty Boeing for the world dominance.

Wanna see, what happens if you place two former military pilots of the French Navy in the cockpit of an Airbus A380? A vertical take-off and some acrobatic maneuvers are the result. Two pilots who previously worked for the French Navy have been working as test pilots for Airbus since a few years. This was the most amazing A380 performance I have ever seen. Very impressive to see such a big bird gliding threw the skies as if it would be a small Cessna. Of course the fuel tanks were empty because the Airbus just made a short presentation flight for the audience in France. I hope I could see such a performance again someday. Airbus 3D Printing technology transformation underway

Airbus is at the start of an innovation revolution using 3D printing technology. 3D plastic parts are already flying on a commercial A310 and an A350 XWB test aircraft. Metal parts for wing slats, a section of the tail wing and door hinges have also been made with 3D printing. In the coming years the technology will allow manufacturing costs to fall while lighter parts will mean less fuel burn for airlines.

Im Vordergrund steht dabei ein A380 - das größte Passagierflugzeug der Welt - der von Toulouse kommend als "grüner Rohling" in Finkenwerder landet, hier ausgebaut und lackiert und nachfolgend an die Fluggesellschaft Emirates übergeben wird. Der Film konzentriert sich dabei auf die vier wichtigsten Stationen: die Ankunft des A380 aus Toulouse, der Ausbau des First Class-Bereiches, die Lackierung der Außenhaut und die Übergabe der Maschine an den Kunden. Eingerahmt vom Hamburger Hafen und dem Obstanbaugebiet des Alten Landes verbirgt sich am südlichen Elbufer ein Weltunternehmen - mit 34 Hektar Gesamtfläche quasi eine Stadt in der Stadt. Mit 12.300 Arbeitsplätzen ist Airbus-Finkenwerder Hamburgs größter privater Arbeitgeber; hier gibt es eine Bank, eine Post, sieben Kantinen, drei Buslinien, einen Flughafen mit Tower und eine Fluglinie, die Finkenwerder zweimal täglich mit Toulouse in Frankreich verbindet.
