Trondheim Soloists (Norwegian: TrondheimSolistene) are a musical chamber ensemble of string players based in Trondheim, Norway. The ensemble was founded in 1988 and has been an arena for professional concert training for string-players at the Music Conservatory at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.
Trondheim Soloist’s discography includes over twenty recordings. The Trondheim Soloists have recorded 6 CDs including Vivaldi’s ’'Four Seasons’' and all of the music for strings by Edvard Grieg. The French Diapason d’Or was awarded the orchestra for its recording of Grieg’s String Quartet No. 1 in G minor. Cellist Øyvind Gimse was appointed as artistic director in 2002.
Their performing style has been described as a hybrid between modern techniques and period ideas: they use baroque bows but on metal stringed instruments. The latest release, Divertimenti (2L, 2008), featuring pieces by Britten and Bartók, also marks the first ever audio-only release on Blu-ray technology. The record was later nominated for three Grammy awards.
Trondheim (Norwegian pronunciation: [ˈtrɔnhæɪm]), historically Kaupangen, Nidaros and Trondhjem, is a city and municipality in Sør-Trøndelag county, Norway. With a population of 181,513 (1 October 2013), it is considered to be the third most populous municipality in Norway, although the fourth largest urban area. It is also the third largest city in the country, with a population (2013) of 169,972 inhabitants within the city borders. The city functions as the administrative centre of Sør-Trøndelag county. Trondheim lies on the south shore of the Trondheimsfjord at the mouth of the river Nidelva. The city is dominated by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), SINTEF, St. Olavs University Hospital and other technology-oriented institutions.
The settlement was founded in 997 as a trading post, and it served as the capital of Norway during the Viking Age until 1217. From 1152 to 1537, the city was the see of the Catholic Archdiocese of Nidaros; since then, it has remained the seat of the Lutheran Diocese of Nidaros and the Nidaros Cathedral. It was incorporated in 1838. The current municipality dates from 1964, when Trondheim merged with Byneset, Leinstrand, Strinda and Tiller.

Trondheim 2018 was a proposed bid for Trondheim, Norway, to host the 2018 Winter Olympics. Along with Oslo and Tromsø bid, it was one of three options for the Norwegian Olympic Committee, who ultimately chose to not bid for the games.
Most of the events would take place in Trondheim and its suburbs. Nordic skiing and biathlon would have taken place at Granåsen, which previously has hosted the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1997. Five competition ice rinks would be built: two at Leangen, for short-track speed skating and figure skating and ice hockey, Tiller for ice hockey, Stjørdal for curling, and Brattøra for speed skating. The latter would be built nearly a sea level, and would have spectators on one end and a glass wall on the other, giving a view of the Trondheimsfjord. Freestyle and snowboarding would be located at Vassfjellet. Alpine skiing and sliding sports would be located at Oppdal. With the exception of Brattøra, all venues would have been build in connection with existing venues.
