2014 UCI XCO MTB World Cup Cairns - Men Action Clip

Absalon Victorious Down Under in Cairns Absalon was the prohibitive favourite for the men's race, especially given the absence of his usual rival, Nino Schurter (Scott-Odlo), who is taking a respite from mountain biking to race on the road. The chaotic start saw two crashes in the start loop of the six lap race, but the top riders all managed to avoid getting tangled up. Thomas Litscher (Multivan Merida) jumped into the lead in the confusion and rode to an 11 second gap at the end of the first lap, ahead of Marco Fontana (Cannondale Factory) and Sergio Mantecon (Trek Factory Racing), with Absalon and Mathias Fluckiger (Stockli Racing) at 19 seconds.

Emmeline Ragot (Lapierre Gravity Republic) took her first win of the season in the Women, while Troy Brosnan (Specialized Racing DH) took the first World Cup victory of his career in Men. Manon Carpenter (Madison Saracen) and Aaron Gwin (Specialized Racing DH) retain their leads in the women's and men's overall standings, respectively.

2014 UCI MTB World Cup Albstadt XCO Action Clip Men

The UCI Mountain Bike World Cup presented by Shimano concluded the spring campaign in Albstadt, Germany, with a record setting win by French legend Julien Absalon (BMC), who became the first rider - male or female - to win 29 cross-country World Cups in his career. Julien Absalon had said earlier in the season that Albstadt was one of his favourite courses, and a priority for him this season, after dropping out last year due to a mechanical while holding a commanding lead. He certainly delivered, with a dominating performance for his third win of the season. World Champion Nino Schurter (Scott-Odlo) attacked hard on the opening lap, opening a gap that only Absalon could close. The two were joined at the front by Fabian Giger (Giant Pro XC) and Maxime Marotte (BH-Suntour-KMC) on lap two, but Absalon continued to push the pace and Schurter and Marotte were dropped first, with Giger falling off a lap later.

Dry and dusty conditions meant that the course was fast. Young riders took the top spots in both the women and men, with Manon Carpenter (Madison Saracen) taking her second win in the women's race to extend her overall lead, while Josh Bryceland (Santa Cruz Syndicate) took the first World Cup victory of his career.
