The leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isis) has made his first official public appearance, ordering Muslims to obey him after declaring himself the head of an Islamic caliphate.

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was seen leading prayers at the Grand Mosque in Mosul in the video, believed to have been taken on Friday 4th July 2014.

The elusive leader has previously been pictured in few photographs and was thought to have gone into hiding.

According to AFP, he told worshippers at the mosque: \

Legality of GCHQ surveillance questioned by leading lawyer

Cabinet ministers have long insisted that GCHQ\'s surveillance programmes are legal. But a leading lawyer has questioned this claim. Jemima Stratford QC says the laws on spying are vague and outdated and ministers have \'unfettered\' power to approve certain activities. So if the laws don\'t work, can GCHQ really rely on them?

God Loves Lan: Thorpe\'s Father On Ian Coming Out

Ian Thorpe\'s father Ken Thorpe speaks to Seven News after his son came out out on national television the night before

\'God loves Ian\': Thorpe\'s father says he had no idea that his son was gay after Olympic swimmer comes out in moving television interview

Ian Thorpe\'s father has revealed he had no idea his son was gay and was shocked he decided to come out on national television.

Ken Thorpe said the Olympic swimming champion had the love and support of his family after Ian opened up to them two weeks before the interview with Sir Michael Parkinson was recorded.

\'God loves Ian and we love Ian unconditionally and we will support him,\' Ken told Seven News on Monday night.

\'It was a shock because we never had any inclination that Ian was that way inclined.\'

The 31-year-old revealed that he \'is a gay man\' during his compelling interview with Sir Michael Parkinson on Sunday night, putting an end to years of speculation about his sexual orientation.

Ken said his son had been in good spirits since the interview aired and that even his friends had revealed \'he has been really good to be around\'.

\'One of my mates at golf said on Thursday... Ian\'s a great bloke and this won\'t change him,\' Ken said.

Since coming out, Thorpe said on Sunday he wishes he had done so earlier.

\'My parents told me that they love me and that they support me,\' he said.

\'I\'m a little bit ashamed that I didn\'t come out earlier. That I didn\'t have the strength to do it, that I didn\'t have the courage to break that lie. I don\'t want that struggle to be so hard for other people.\'

It has since emerged that Thorpe considered coming out before the Sydney 2000 Olympics but decided to put off the announcement because it could affect his sponsorship deals.

In 2000 Thorpe had an anonymous phone conference call with Canadian swimmer Mark Tewksbury, who had come out in 1998 and warned Thorpe of the financial consequences, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.

The conversation was set up after the head of Swimming Australia, the late Terry Gathercole, organised for Thorpe to talk to openly gay solicitor John Marsden, who then set up the phone call with Tewksbury.

Tewksbury said that he came out because rumours about his sexual orientation almost cost him a six-figure contract.

In describing the conversation, Marsden said Tewksbury did not try to convince Thorpe he shouldn\'t come out, but told him to consider the risk to sponsorship deals.

Thorpe\'s manager Will Erskine, from SEL Management which did not represent Thorpe in 2000, said the phone call was \'news to me\'.

\'We\'re not going to be commenting any further on the interview and subsidiary stories,\' Mr Erskine told Daily Mail Australia.

In the TV interviewed aired on Sunday Thorpe touched on his battle with depression which reached a point where he considered suicide, his struggle with fame, his ambitions and what he hopes the future may hold for him.

But it was Parkinson\'s highly-anticipated question that kept viewers waiting.

\'You\'ve always said that you\'re not gay. Is all of that true?\' Parkinson asked.

SEXUALITY

\'I\'ve thought about this for a long time,\' Thorpe said.

\'I\'m not straight. And this is only something that very recently - in the past two weeks - I\'ve been comfortable telling the closest people around me exactly that.\'

The champion swimmer, who was first asked about his sexuality at the age of 16, acknowledged he had hid behind a \'convenient lie\'.

\'I didn\'t know at the stage, I was too young,\' he said.

\'I didn\'t accept it in myself. I didn\'t want to be gay. I was still gay at the end of the day.

\'Yes, I lied about it. I\'m comfortable saying I\'m a gay man.\'

But it was also the fear of letting down or hurting his loved ones - and his nation - that held him back from revealing the truth.

\'My close friends are going to be accused of being my lover,\' he said.

\'It\'s happened before. It happened in 2009. My housemate who lived with me - I was on a vacation in Brazil, there was a photo, instantly people said: \'this is my lover\'. He was my housemate, one of my best friends, and he was drawn into this. And I loathed that because I tried to protect everyone from it.

\'Part of me didn\'t know if Australia wanted its champion to be gay. But I\'m telling the world that I am.\'

Thorpe, who retired from professional swimming in 2012, had accomplished his dreams by the time he reached 17.

Known as the Thorpedo during his stellar career, the athlete smashed 22 world records and along the way won five gold, three silver and one bronze Olympic medals.

He has also won 11 World titles and 11 (10 gold, one silver) Commonwealth Games medals.

\'I struggled with the success of what I did,\' he said.

Israel continued to fire rockets across the Gaza Strip on Saturday morning, as the Palestinian death toll topped 120. A large explosion caused by an Israeli airstrike on Saturday morning created chaos on the streets of Khan Younis, in the Southern Gaza Strip. Dozens of locals were running away from the damaged site, which was quickly surrounded by smoke. A rocket also hit the house of Hamas militant leader Yehiya al-Sinwar from the group\'s military wing Al Qassam Brigades. There were no casualties in the attack, according to health officials in Gaza.

Translation is in comments section, where I commented. Like the comment to keep it on top for everyone else to see or click here: https://twitter.com/Francois_Gatete/status/485789034413694977 (PS: I don't sympathize just here to share news) From The Independent: The leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isis) has made his first official public appearance, ordering Muslims to obey him after declaring himself the head of an Islamic caliphate. Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was seen leading prayers at the Grand Mosque in Mosul in the video, believed to have been taken on Friday 4th July 2014. The elusive leader has previously been pictured in few photographs and was thought to have gone into hiding. According to AFP, he told worshippers at the mosque: "I am the wali (leader) who presides over you, though I am not the best of you, so if you see that I am right, assist me. "If you see that I am wrong, advise me and put me on the right track, and obey me as long as I obey God in you." The mosque was packed with men of all ages - some in traditional dress, some wearing football shirts and tracksuit bottoms. Mosul, one of Iraq's largest cities, has been under Isis control since June and the terrorist group now controls an area larger than Great Britain, straddling Iraq and Syria. Isis wants to be known just as the "Islamic State" and claims Baghdadi as the only legitimate successor to the Prophet Mohammed. He became head of al-Qa'ida in Iraq in 2010 after its former leaders were killed in an attack by US and Iraqi troops and is believed to be well-educated, with degrees in Islamic Studies. The Iraqi army has failed to slow the advance of Isis from northern Iraq, prompting the Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, to shake up the security forces. The chief of the army's ground forces and head of the federal police were removed from their posts on Saturday but no replacements have been named. Iraqi soldiers in the city of Mosul and across much of the country's north melted away in the face of the Isis, leaving Shia volunteers to attempt to defend their towns. The Prime Minister has already retired several senior army figures and vowed to bring the full weight of military law, including the execution of deserters, on anyone found to have fled battles. Isis extremists have destroyed at least 10 ancient shrines and Shia mosques in territory they have seized in northern Iraq, according images posted online and witnesses. The death toll of the group's bloody campaign cannot be counted but atrocities including summary killings, beheadings, crucifixions and massacres have been reported. The movement ascribes violently to Sunni Islam and considers Shias heretics, and the veneration of saints apostasy.

Legality of GCHQ surveillance questioned by leading lawyer Subscribe to the Guardian HERE: http://bitly.com/UvkFpD Cabinet ministers have long insisted that GCHQ's surveillance programmes are legal. But a leading lawyer has questioned this claim. Jemima Stratford QC says the laws on spying are vague and outdated and ministers have 'unfettered' power to approve certain activities. So if the laws don't work, can GCHQ really rely on them? Click here for full Guardian article: http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/video/2014/jan/28/gchq-surveillance-legality-lawyer-video

UK Set To Pass Emergency Data Law - UK To Force Telecom Firms To Spy On British Citizens An emergency law to ensure police and security services can continue to access people's phone and internet records is expected to be approved at a special cabinet meeting later. David Cameron says the Data Retention and Investigation Powers Bill is needed to fight "criminals and terrorists". But civil liberties groups say it infringes the right to privacy and sets a dangerous precedent. It comes after the European Court of Justice struck down existing powers. An EU directive requiring phone and internet companies to retain communications data - when and who their customers called, texted and emailed but not what was said - for a 12 month period was ruled unlawful in April by the European Court. God Loves Lan: Thorpe's Father On Ian Coming Out Ian Thorpe's father Ken Thorpe speaks to Seven News after his son came out out on national television the night before 'God loves Ian': Thorpe's father says he had no idea that his son was gay after Olympic swimmer comes out in moving television interview Ian Thorpe's father has revealed he had no idea his son was gay and was shocked he decided to come out on national television. Ken Thorpe said the Olympic swimming champion had the love and support of his family after Ian opened up to them two weeks before the interview with Sir Michael Parkinson was recorded. 'God loves Ian and we love Ian unconditionally and we will support him,' Ken told Seven News on Monday night. 'It was a shock because we never had any inclination that Ian was that way inclined.' The 31-year-old revealed that he 'is a gay man' during his compelling interview with Sir Michael Parkinson on Sunday night, putting an end to years of speculation about his sexual orientation. Ken said his son had been in good spirits since the interview aired and that even his friends had revealed 'he has been really good to be around'. 'One of my mates at golf said on Thursday... Ian's a great bloke and this won't change him,' Ken said. Since coming out, Thorpe said on Sunday he wishes he had done so earlier. 'My parents told me that they love me and that they support me,' he said. 'I'm a little bit ashamed that I didn't come out earlier. That I didn't have the strength to do it, that I didn't have the courage to break that lie. I don't want that struggle to be so hard for other people.' It has since emerged that Thorpe considered coming out before the Sydney 2000 Olympics but decided to put off the announcement because it could affect his sponsorship deals. In describing the conversation, Marsden said Tewksbury did not try to convince Thorpe he shouldn't come out, but told him to consider the risk to sponsorship deals. Thorpe's manager Will Erskine, from SEL Management which did not represent Thorpe in 2000, said the phone call was 'news to me'. 'We're not going to be commenting any further on the interview and subsidiary stories,' Mr Erskine told Daily Mail Australia. In the TV interviewed aired on Sunday Thorpe touched on his battle with depression which reached a point where he considered suicide, his struggle with fame, his ambitions and what he hopes the future may hold for him. But it was Parkinson's highly-anticipated question that kept viewers waiting. 'You've always said that you're not gay. Is all of that true?' Parkinson asked. SEXUALITY 'I've thought about this for a long time,' Thorpe said. 'I'm not straight. And this is only something that very recently - in the past two weeks - I've been comfortable telling the closest people around me exactly that.' The champion swimmer, who was first asked about his sexuality at the age of 16, acknowledged he had hid behind a 'convenient lie'. 'I didn't know at the stage, I was too young,' he said. 'I didn't accept it in myself. I didn't want to be gay. I was still gay at the end of the day. 'Yes, I lied about it. I'm comfortable saying I'm a gay man.' But it was also the fear of letting down or hurting his loved ones - and his nation - that held him back from revealing the truth. 'My close friends are going to be accused of being my lover,' he said. 'It's happened before. It happened in 2009. My housemate who lived with me - I was on a vacation in Brazil, there was a photo, instantly people said: 'this is my lover'. He was my housemate, one of my best friends, and he was drawn into this. And I loathed that because I tried to protect everyone from it. 'Part of me didn't know if Australia wanted its champion to be gay. But I'm telling the world that I am.' Thorpe, who retired from professional swimming in 2012, had accomplished his dreams by the time he reached 17. Known as the Thorpedo during his stellar career, the athlete smashed 22 world records and along the way won five gold, three silver and one bronze Olympic medals. He has also won 11 World titles and 11 (10 gold, one silver) Commonwealth Games medals. 'I struggled with the success of what I did,' he said.

A rocket also hit the house of Hamas militant leader Yehiya al-Sinwar from the group's military wing Al Qassam Brigades. There were no casualties in the attack, according to health officials in Gaza.
