Rasheed or Al Rashid is one of nine administrative districts in Baghdad, Iraq. Located in southern Baghdad, includes the Baiyaa and Dora neighborhoods.

It is a predominantly Sunni Muslim area.

The 18-story Hotel Al-Rasheed is one of the most prominent landmarks, and is frequented by journalists and media personnel. Named after Harun Al-Rashid, it became well known in the western media during the 1991 Persian Gulf War when CNN conducted their newscasts from the hotel. Between the Persian Gulf War and the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the building was the main housing facility for wealthy western businessmen and diplomats and the press.

After the invasion, the hotel was converted into a base for the Coalition and the American military. On October 26, 2003 it was subject to a Katyusha rocket attack which killed Lieutenant Colonel Charles H. Buehring and injuring 17 others. A large tile mosaic depicting George H.W. Bush was installed on the floor of the lobby after the Persian Gulf War. In Arab culture walking over a face is seen as a serious insult and was created with the intent to force any visitors to walk over his face when they entered the hotel. The mosaic was destroyed by U.S. soldiers in 2003.

Baghdad (Arabic: بغداد‎, Baġdād, IPA: [bæɣˈdæːd]) is the capital of Republic of Iraq, as well as the coterminous Baghdad Province. The population of Baghdad as of 2011 is approximately 7,216,040, making it the largest city in Iraq, the second largest city in the Arab World (after Cairo, Egypt), and the second largest city in Western Asia (after Tehran, Iran).

Located along the Tigris River, the city was founded in the 8th century and became the capital of the Abbasid Caliphate. Within a short time of its inception, Baghdad evolved into a significant cultural, commercial, and intellectual center for the Islamic World. This in addition to housing several key academic institutions (e.g. House of Wisdom) garnered the city a worldwide reputation as the "Center of Learning". Throughout the High Middle Ages, Baghdad was considered to be the largest city in the world with an estimated population of 1,200,000 people. The city was largely destroyed at the hands of the Mongol Empire in 1258, resulting in a decline that would linger through many centuries due to frequent plagues and multiple successive empires. With the recognition of Iraq as an independent state (formerly the British Mandate of Mesopotamia) in 1938, Baghdad gradually regained some of its former prominence as a significant center of Arabic culture.

Al Rasheed, the House of Rashid, or the House of Rasheed (Arabic: آل رشيد‎ Āl Rashid or Alrasheed) were a historic dynasty of the Arabian Peninsula, and the most formidable enemies of the House of Saud in Nejd. They were centered in Ha'il, a city in northern Nejd that derived its wealth from being on the route of the Hajj, there was a city known for its trading, which absorbed many of the travelers that were bound to Mekkah. The rulers of this city were the sons of Abdullah Bin Rasheed.

The Al Rasheed derived their name from the grandfather of Abdullah, who was named Rasheed. The first " amir " (Prince) Abdullah Ibn Rasheed was the first to begin the establishment of the Emirate of Ha'il. The Rasheedi amirs cooperated closely with the Ottoman Empire. However, this cooperation became problematic as the Ottoman empire lost popularity.

As with many Arab ruling dynasties, the lack of a generally accepted rule of succession was a recurrent problem with the Rasheedi rule. The internal dispute normally centered on whether succession to the position of amir should be horizontal (i.e. to a brother) or vertical (to a son). These internal divisions within the family led to bloody infighting. In the last years of the nineteenth century six Rasheedi leaders died violently. Nevertheless, The Al Rasheed Family still ruled and fought with each other hand in hand against Ibn Saud.

Ehsan Sehgal (Urdu: احسان سہگل, Hindi: एहसान सहगल), born Khawaja Ehsan Elahi Sehgal (Urdu: خواجہ احسان الہی سہگل ) on November 15, 1951, is a well-known Pakistani Urdu poet and writer who has lived in the Netherlands since 1978. He is also a journalist and activist for democracy and the freedom of the press and of speech.

He has received awards from Indian and European Urdu literary organizations, in recognition of his literary achievements, and is famous for his poetry book Zarb-e-Sukhan in the Urdu world. Moreover, his many ghazals and naats have also been composed and sung by various singers of Pakistan.

Sehgal has written a novel and several books of poetry; his articles have been published in various Urdu newspapers.

Sehgal was born in Larkana, Pakistan, in a Punjabi business family. His father, Khawaja Manzoor Elahi Sehgal, was from Pind Dadan Khan, Pakistan. Ehsan Sehgal received his elementary and secondary education in Larkana. He later moved to Karachi. He was awarded a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree from University of Sindh, Hyderabad, and obtained Master of Arts Urdu (M.A.) and Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degrees from University of Karachi. He worked in several firms before he began his career in journalism. Sehgal distinguished himself as a journalist, but "unfavorable conditions" forced him to leave the country. In 1978, he sought political asylum in the Netherlands, settling in The Hague to work as a freelance journalist. He currently freelances for Urdu newspapers and magazines and online daily newspapers.

Derek Wilkinson (born July 29, 1974 in LaSalle, Ontario) is a retired Canadian ice hockey goaltender. He was the final head coach of the Charlotte Checkers of the ECHL, from 2004 until the team moved up to the American Hockey League in 2011.

Wilkinson played his entire National Hockey League career with the Tampa Bay Lightning. His NHL career started in 1995 and he lasted until the 1999 season. He appeared in 22 games in his NHL career.
