A pole star is a visible star, an especially prominent one, that is approximately aligned with the Earth's axis of rotation; that is, a star whose apparent position is close to one of the celestial poles, and which lies approximately directly overhead when viewed from the Earth's North Pole or South Pole. A similar concept also applies to other planets. In practice, the term Pole Star usually refers to Polaris, which is the current northern pole star, also known as the North Star.
The south celestial pole currently lacks a bright star like Polaris to mark its position. At present, the naked-eye star nearest to this imaginary point is the faint Sigma Octantis, which is sometimes known as the South Star.
While other stars' apparent positions in the sky change throughout the night, as they appear to rotate around the celestial poles, pole stars' apparent positions remain virtually fixed. This makes them especially useful in celestial navigation: they are a dependable indicator of the direction toward the respective geographic pole although not exact; they are virtully fixed, and their angle of elevation can also be used to determine latitude.

Dreaming... Easier said than done.
Plot
At Dream Castle, the Little Ponies are preparing a festival to celebrate the first day of Spring. From the Volcano of Gloom, the evil witch Hydia watches the event via her cauldron and, disgusted by the frivolity, tells her daughters that they must ruin it. Hydia's daughters, Draggle and Reeka, are inexperienced at causing mischief and fail utterly at ruining the festival. They return to the Volcano of Gloom in disgrace, where Witch Hydia presents a better plan - they'll make Smooze. The sisters collect a series of disgusting ingredients, but neglect to obtain the Phlume, the prospect of which terrifies them. The spell seems to work regardless, creating a pool of sentient purple lava that gleefully buries Ponyland.

Draggle: We wouldn't lie.::Hydia: I told you I don't care if you lie, just not to me!
Molly: It's the ugliest thing I've seen!::Danny: Reminds me of your friend Laurie.::Molly: Does not!
Hydia: It's time you two do-nothings DID something!::Draggle: Uh... I pulled the wings off a fly last week!::Reeka: Uh, I fried a worm!::Hydia: Aah, small time stuff! I'm talking about something big!::Reeka: Uh, uh, I could fry two worms!
Hydia: Why can't you be evil like I taught you? Why won't you misbehave the way you should? You never use the guillotine I bought you! You just aren't bad enough for your own good!
Hydia: Why can't you be mean, like Aunt Eureka? She fed her victims till they almost burst! Then cooked them with a smidgen of paprika. She always did her best to do her worst!
Hydia: We're witches, wizards and warlocks! We're the reason honest people purchase doorlocks! We've turned princes into frogs, peasants into pheasants, soldiers and sailors into swine! We've never been accused of being angels, but as for being devils, we're divine!
Hydia: One evil deed, that's all I asked! Oh, you're such a disappointment! I've given you everything a witch could want! Shabby clothes, a rotten place to live, all the foul-tasting food you can eat! And what do I get back? Nothing! Malevia over at Nightmare Heights, her daughter made Easter Sunday come up on a Tuesday! What've you done? Zip! A big fat zero!
[trying to trick eachother into getting the phlume]::Draggle: Why, Reeka dear, you look a little pale! I fear you aren't feeling at your best! I hope you haven't come down with a chill... Perhaps you need to take a little rest!::Reeka: What about all the work we have to do? You're not going to do it all alone, are you?::Draggle: Why, Reeka darling, what are sisters for? Not to worry, not to worry! I'll do the dirty work! I'll handle all the dirty work! You go relax in your room! I'll collect the muck and mire; I wouldn't want you to perspire; All you have to do is get the phlume!
Reeka: Draggle dear, I just now had a flash! I still owe you a birthday gift or two! I suffered from a lack of ready cash, but now I'd like to make it up to you! I'll do the dirty work! I'll handle all the dirty work! Each humble job I'll assume! I'll be working overtime, collecting mold and filth and slime... all you have to do is get the phlume!
[Reeka shoves Draggle, who runs into Hydia. The bucket of ingredients falls into the Volcano]::Hydia: You... you... you clumsy pea-brain! Look what you've done!::Draggle: It doesn't... I mean... you were going to throw it in anyway, weren't you?::Hydia: Oh... it's not the same!
