Unknown Man 'E': The Most Mysterious Mummy in the World (Ancient Egypt History Documentary)
Unknown Man 'E': The Most Mysterious Mummy in the World (Ancient Egypt History Documentary) The Screaming Man Over 100 years ago an unidentified mummy was found lying alongside some of the most famous pharaohs in Egyptian history but his face is locked in an eternal scream. What caused this mans haunting expression? Why wasn't he mummified according to custom? The Screaming Man, also known as "Unknown Man E," was discovered in 1881. He was buried near the Valley of the Kings alongside members of Egyptian royalty. Unknown Man E was found covered in a quicklime paste, unheard of in the Egyptian tradition, wrapped in a sheepskin -- an object considered unclean for ancient Egyptians - and bound at the wrist and ankle. The ancient Egyptians' process of mummification was carried out according to clearly defined routines and religious principles, in order to prepare the body for the next world. Chemicals were used to dry the body out, a process which could last as long as 40 days. Then the body was coated with oils, painted with melted resins, and finally wrapped tightly in linen. Unknown Man E was mummified but denied any of the protective magic which would allow him to reach the next world, and some scholars believe that this, together with the animal skin found on the mummy, may indicate an intentional attempt to damn this man. The transition to the afterlife was so perilous that the ancient Egyptians tried to equip themselves with as much magical protection as possible. The markings of the tomb walls were intended to assist or protect the deceased on his journey to the next world, and they were buried with The Book of the Dead, a collection of spells or magic formulas. Some believe that Unknown Man E was a disgraced royal prince, son of Ramses III, the last great pharaoh of the New Kingdom.- published: 19 Apr 2014

Ancient Egypt's Buildings Documentary
Ancient Egypt's Buildings Documentary
Ancient Egypt was an ancient civilization of Northeastern Africa, concentrated along the lower reaches of the Nile River in what is now the modern country of Egypt. Egyptian civilization coalesced around 3150 BC (according to conventional Egyptian chronology)[1] with the political unification of Upper and Lower Egypt under the first pharaoh.[2] The history of ancient Egypt occurred in a series of stable Kingdoms, separated by periods of relative instability known as Intermediate Periods: the Old Kingdom of the Early Bronze Age, the Middle Kingdom of the Middle Bronze Age and the New Kingdom of the Late Bronze Age. Egypt reached the pinnacle of its power during the New Kingdom, in the Ramesside period where it rivalled the Hittite Empire, Assyrian Empire and Mitanni Empire, after which it entered a period of slow decline. Egypt was invaded or conquered by a succession of foreign powers (such as the Canaanites/Hyksos, Libyans, Nubians, Assyria, Babylonia, Persian rule and Macedonian Greece) in the Third Intermediate Period of Egypt and Late Period. In the aftermath of Alexander the Great's death, one of his generals, Ptolemy Soter, established himself as the new ruler of Egypt. This Greek Ptolemaic Dynasty ruled Egypt until 30 BC, when, under Cleopatra, it fell to the Roman Empire and became a Roman province.[3] The success of ancient Egyptian civilization came partly from its ability to adapt to the conditions of the Nile River Valley. The predictable flooding and controlled irrigation of the fertile valley produced surplus crops, which fueled social development and culture. With resources to spare, the administration sponsored mineral exploitation of the valley and surrounding desert regions, the early development of an independent writing system, the organization of collective construction and agricultural projects, trade with surrounding regions, and a military intended to defeat foreign enemies and assert Egyptian dominance. Motivating and organizing these activities was a bureaucracy of elite scribes, religious leaders, and administrators under the control of a Pharaoh who ensured the cooperation and unity of the Egyptian people in the context of an elaborate system of religious beliefs.[4][5] The many achievements of the ancient Egyptians include the quarrying, surveying and construction techniques that facilitated the building of monumental pyramids, temples, and obelisks; a system of mathematics, a practical and effective system of medicine, irrigation systems and agricultural production techniques, the first known ships,[6] Egyptian faience and glass technology, new forms of literature, and the earliest known peace treaty with Hittites.[7] Egypt left a lasting legacy. Its art and architecture were widely copied, and its antiquities carried off to far corners of the world. Its monumental ruins have inspired the imaginations of travellers and writers for centuries. A new-found respect for antiquities and excavations in the early modern period led to the scientific investigation of Egyptian civilization and a greater appreciation of its cultural legacy.- published: 31 Dec 2013

How Ancient Egyptians Lived - The Real Truth (AMAZING ANCIENT EGYPT DOCUMENTARY)
How Ancient Egyptians Lived - The Real Truth (AMAZING ANCIENT EGYPT DOCUMENTARY) Egypt captivates us like few other ancient civilizations - but what was it like to actually live there as an ordinary person 3,500 years ago? Egyptologist Dr Joann Fletcher goes on a fascinating journey in search of people like us, not the great Pharaohs but the ordinary people who built and populated this incredible ancient civilization, creating a remarkable way of life and an extraordinary way of death. These questions are explored through the histories of Kha and Meryt, an architect and his wife who lived just outside the Valley of the Kings. They left behind a treasure trove of information in their extraordinary tomb, full of objects from their lives and death; everything from make-up to death masks, loaves of bread to life-like figurines, even the tools Kha used at work in the royal tombs. Joann Fletcher uses this trove to travel into the remarkable world of these ancient Egyptians, both in life and the afterlife.- published: 07 May 2014

The Black Pharaohs - Nubian Pharaohs (Ancient Egypt History Documentary)
The Black Pharaohs - Nubian Pharaohs (Ancient Egypt History Documentary) Dr Vivian Davies claims that a recently discovered set of hieroglyphs proves that, in 800 BC, Egypt was under the rule of black Pharaohs from neighbouring Nubia. This film examines the impact of these sensational discoveries. Historians have long known about Kush, but relegated its importance to a vassal state of Egypt, significant only for its gold reserves. Early excavations in the Kush capital at Kerma suffered from the innate racism of the archaeologists. Fabulous grave goods, discovered in the 20th century, were thought to have belonged to Kush's Egyptian overlords. They didn't consider that a black African culture could have challenged Egypt's supremacy. The inscription exposed the truth. Although it won battles, Kush eventually lost the war, and for the next 1000 years, Egypt had the upper hand. But the inscription served as a warning prophecy to Egypt that it might pay a high price. The enslaved Kushites would have their revenge. Allowed, and even encouraged, to rebuild their own kingdom along the lines of Egypt, in 747 BC, Kush attacked the Pharaoh's power in a daring land grab. The Kushite king, Piye, overthrew the yoke, conquered mighty Egypt and established a 100-year rule of black Pharaohs. Even after being ousted from the Egyptian throne, Kushite kings continued to rule an empire as mighty as any, until the arrival of Alexander the Great. For a number of years, British Museum archaeologists have been making find after find in the Upper Nile Valley to substantiate this story - huge lost pyramids, burial chambers of 200 workers, and stores of gold.- published: 26 Mar 2014

Sunken Ancient Egyptian City Discovered
Sunken Ancient Egyptian City Discovered After 1200 Years Heracleion ia a city much like Atlantis, submerged and swallowed by the Mediterranean sea for over 1200 years. But archaeologists are now discovering amazing statues of Egyptian Gods and beautiful gold artifacts. The mysteries of this sunken city is truly being unraveled. The city known by two names Heracleion by the Greeks and Thonis by the Egyptians was discovered 150 feet below the surface of the sea over a decade ago by a shore geo survey. Hope you enjoy the photos and facts! The stone, some 19 feet tall and 9 feet wide, had been in 15 pieces under the sea bottom, and was one of the largest ever found. The scientists also displayed another such slab, about one-third the size. Sunken city gives up its treasure: Ancient Egyptian metropolis lost for 1,200 years below Mediterranean sea set to go on display. Just as in the classical tale, Heracleion was once a prosperous, thriving city before it was engulfed by the sea around 1,500 years ago. It was grand enough to be mentioned by the Greek writer Herodotus, the 5th-century BC historian. He told the fabulous story of Helen of Troy, the most beautiful woman in the world — she of the face that launched a thousand ships — travelling to Heracleion, then a port of 'great wealth', with her glamorous Trojan lover, Paris. "This was a very interesting mission," said Frank Goddio, a Frenchman archaeologist who headed the team. "We discovered so many things. This site is amazingly rich." Using magnetic wave technology, the divers found the basin of what used to be the city's harbor and electronically surveyed and charted it, finding palaces and temples. Next to the harbor, they found 10 antique shipwrecks. A coliseum, houses, temples and several other artifacts lay amazingly intact at the bottom of the sea, the archaeologists said. They said they found the statues on the site of what used to be the Great Temple of Herakleion. The scientists may have also helped solve the mystery of how one of the most thriving cities of ancient Egypt — now in the bay of Abu Qir about 3.5 miles off the coast of the modern Egyptian resort of Alexandria — seemed to simply disappear. The shipwrecks made them lean toward the idea that Herakleion and two nearby cities were engulfed by a huge, sudden earthquake and tidal wave some 1,200 years ago http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2336723/Ancient-Egyptian-city-lost-1-200-years-begins-reveal-secrets.html- published: 17 Dec 2013

The Egyptians invented and used many simple machines, such as the ramp and the lever, to aid construction processes. They used rope trusses to stiffen the beam of ships. Egyptian paper, made from papyrus, and pottery were mass-produced and exported throughout the Mediterranean basin. The wheel, however, did not arrive until foreign influence introduced the chariot in the 16th century BC. The Egyptians also played an important role in developing Mediterranean maritime technology including ships and lighthouses. Significant advances in ancient Egypt during the dynastic period include astronomy, mathematics, and medicine. Their geometry was a necessary outgrowth of surveying to preserve the layout and ownership of farmland, which was flooded annually by the Nile river. The 3,4,5 right triangle and other rules of thumb served to represent rectilinear structures, and the post and lintel architecture of Egypt. Egypt also was a center of alchemy research for much of the western world. The Nile valley has been the site of one of the most influential civilizations in the world with its architectural monuments, which include the pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx—among the largest and most famous buildings in the world. Giza Plateau, Cairo. Khafre's pyramid in the background The most famous pyramids are the Egyptian pyramids—huge structures built of brick or stone, some of which are among the largest constructions by humans. Pyramids functioned as tombs for pharaohs. In Ancient Egypt, a pyramid was referred to as mer, literally "place of ascendance." The Great Pyramid of Giza is the largest in Egypt and one of the largest in the world. The base is over 13 acres (53,000 m2) in area. It is one of the Seven Wonders of the World, and the only one of the seven to survive into modern times. The Ancient Egyptians capped the peaks of their pyramids with gold and covered their faces with polished white limestone, although many of the stones used for the finishing purpose have fallen or been removed for use on other structures over the millennia. The Red Pyramid of Egypt (c.26th century BC), named for the light crimson hue of its exposed granite surfaces, is the third largest of Egyptian pyramids. Menkaure's Pyramid, likely dating to the same era, was constructed of limestone and granite blocks. The Great Pyramid of Giza (c. 2580 BC) contains a huge granite sarcophagus fashioned of "Red Aswan Granite." The mostly ruined Black Pyramid dating from the reign of Amenemhat III once had a polished granite pyramidion or capstone, now on display in the main hall of the Egyptian Museum in Cairo (see Dahshur). Other uses in Ancient Egypt,[8] include columns, door lintels, sills, jambs, and wall and floor veneer. The ancient Egyptians had some of the first monumental stone buildings (such as in Sakkara). How the Egyptians worked the solid granite is still a matter of debate. Archaeologist Patrick Hunt has postulated that the Egyptians used emery shown to have higher hardness on the Mohs scale. Regarding construction, of the various methods possibly used by builders, the lever moved and uplifted obelisks weighing more than 100 tons.- published: 15 Jun 2014

The Secret of The Great Pyramid: Khufu Revealed (Ancient Egypt History Documentary)
The Secret of The Great Pyramid: Khufu Revealed (Ancient Egypt History Documentary) 4500 years ago, a civilization that knew nothing of iron tools, wheels or pulleys built the Great Pyramid of Khufu. For centuries, its construction remained an unsolved mystery. But recently, a French architect disclosed a revolutionary theory: the pyramid may have been built from the inside out. Using the most advanced scientific 3D technology, Jean Pierre Houdin tested and re-enacted the construction of Khufu's tomb. He believes that an internal spiral ramp is still there.... just waiting to be found. Combining scientific investigation, magnificent CGI and re-enactments, this film will unveil the true genius of the ancient Egyptians. How Khufu's "Horizon" -- as Egyptians used to call the pharaoh's final resting place -- was "rediscovered", "opened", analysed and measured, etc. How all the previous research, theories and mistakes enabled Jean-Pierre Houdin to design this unique re-constitution of its construction.- published: 26 Mar 2014

The Lost Tomb Of Imhotep (ANCIENT EGYPT HISTORY DOCUMENTARY) The Lost Mummy of Imhotep uncovers what may be Egypt's fabled city of the dead and the legendary Imhotep, buried beneath the sands of Saqqara. At the dawn of Egyptian civilization, Imhotep built the first pyramid, became legendary as a physician and governed the greatest state on earth. The ancients made him a god, and Hollywood made him "The Mummy." But few realize that the character was based on one of the most important figures in all of ancient history, a man historians have called the world's "first known genius." For some archaeologists, Imhotep's lost burial site has been the Holy Grail of Egyptology. Now, at long last, Polish archaeologist Karol Mysliwiec may indeed have found him.- published: 26 Apr 2014
