Pallisa District is a district in Eastern Uganda. Like most other Ugandan districts, it is named after its chief town, Pallisa, where the district headquarters are located.

Pallisa District is bordered to the north by (from west to east): Serere District, Ngora District, Kumi District and Bukedea District. Mbale District lies to the east. Budaka District lies to the southeast, Kibuku District to the southwest and Kaliro District to the west.Pallisa, the 'chief town' of the district, is located approximately 65 kilometres (40 mi), by road, west of Mbale, the largest city in the sub-region. The coordinates of the district are: 01 01N, 33 43E.

The 2002 national census estimated the population of the district at 300,700. The annual population growth rate in the district was estimated at 3%. It is estimated that in 2010 the population of Pallisa District was approximately 394,100. See table below:

Subsistence crop agriculture and animal husbandry are the two major economic activities in the district. To a lesser extent, fishing, fish farming and bee keeping are increasingly practiced in Pallisa District. The major crops include:

The town of Pallisa, lies in a rural area with extremely limited public transportation. The town has a population of about 30,000, scattered across the surrounding area, for a radius of 10 kilometres (6.2 mi). The main industry there is schooling. In fact, the town swells to around 40,000 when school is in. Kids come from all around to go to one of the twenty (20) or so secondary schools in the area, where they board in a hut rented to them by the local villagers. Students live in a mud and grass hut with one or two others, fending entirely for themselves while going to school. Pallisa is the sister city of Hudson, New York

The 2002 national census estimated the population of the town at 23,650 and in 2008, the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), estimated the population of the town of Pallisa to be 29,000. In 2011, UBOS estimated the mid-year population of the town at 32,300.
