Serbian Erske bagpipe - erske gajde (Rumenka kolo)
On this clip you can see and listen Rumenka kolo (Rumenka round dance) on Erske bagpipe.This type of bagpipe have synonym "Svrljiške gajde" or bagpipes from Svrljig (place in Eastern Serbia). From all nations on the Balkan peninsula, only Serbs posses in theirs national cultural heritage three voiced bagpipes. Erske gajde are the oldest type of three voiced bagpipes and are direct ancestor type for some other bagpipes. This instrument have two voiced chanter, with melody and contra pipe..drone and very specific blowpipe. Anciently this instrument have ritual function, but in the past days it was abandoned and forgotten, only in fragment this ritual function can be recognized today.. Evidence of those function is unavoidable bagpipe practice in the weeding ritual ( especially practice in the connection with best men) and human like head chanter stock, whitch represent godhood of old times. Sometime, this part of bagpipes are carved like human head whitch is wrong perception and became practice of some bagpipe makers of new days. Newer made instrument sometime do not have carved canter stock, made in the human like way, instead that, those instrument have funnel like chanter stock, or some similar way made chanter stock. Leather tassel with, wild pig tooth, eagle or bear claw and similar amulet also have ritual function but those amulet today commonly are missing.
