Giro cycling arrives in Drogheda Ireland. The world's best cyclists have been taking part in the Irish leg of the Giro d'Italia in Belfast since Friday. Now it's Dublin's turn to get in the pink as the race for the famous Maglia Rosa (pink jersey) arrives in the Republic. The first cross-border stage of the three-week race will travel from the Mall in Armagh this morning to Dublin's Merrion Square, passing through Dundalk, Drogheda, Balbriggan, Malahide and Clontarf en route. Up to 300,000 people are expected to turn out to support the event today. The general public can view the race along the route. However, Dublin City Council is advising spectators to line the route from the O2 along the quays to welcome Giro d'Italia to Dublin city, as viewing will be very restricted in the last kilometre as the race approaches the finish line. Despite a number of road closures in the city centre, Dublin City Council has promised there will be minimal disruption and is encouraging those travelling to witness the Giro d'Italia to use public transport where possible. The official caravan for the Giro d'Italia will stop in Dundalk, Drogheda, Balbriggan, Malahide and Dublin with promotional items. Stage 3 has begun in Armagh with around 200 cyclists setting off from the city at the start of the 187km route. They will cross the border towards Dundalk, Castlebellingham and Drogheda and continue along the coast through Skerries, Swords and Malahide. The race will then head towards Dublin city via Baldoyle, Clontarf, Alfie Byrne Road, East Wall Road, the 02, North Wall Quay, Custom House Quay and will cross the Liffey at Talbot Memorial Bridge.
