WOGL
WOGL is an FM radio station in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.
The station airs a classic hits format. WOGL is owned by CBS Radio. Its transmitter is located in the Roxborough section of Philadelphia, while studios are in Philadelphia.
The station has previously been known as Oldies 98 and Oldies 98.1.
History
The station began experimentally at 42.1 MHz as W3XIR, followed two years later (1941) by W69PH at 46.9 Mc. When the FCC moved the FM band to its present location, it became WCAU-FM at 102.7 and some time later, moved to 95.5, and finally, its present 98.1. WCAU-FM simulcast the MOR format on WCAU (AM) 1210 until 1966, when it, along with other CBS FM stations, presented "The Young Sound" format: an instrumental-oriented type of pseudo-rock music. In the fall of 1969, WCAU-FM replaced "The Young Sound" with an automated oldies format. The format featured the voice of Jim Nettleton and others. Live air personalities were eventually added. The station played the hits from 1955 up to and including some current product.

98.1 WOGL-FM Oldies 98 Philadelphia 1987 aircheck
On November 9, 1987, both WIOQ-FM and WOGL-FM became oldies stations in Philadelphia. This brought the total of four oldies stations in the market. WFIL-AM 560 and WPGR-AM 1540 were the other two stations. WIOQ succumbed to the format battle and WOGL emerged as the winner.

These jingles by Frank Gari, (best known for producing news theme music) ran on WOGL-FM in the late 1980s. It was the first jinle package used by WOGL, after they dropped the Hoy Hits format as WCAU-FM. This package was also used on WCBS-FM in the early 1980s. My visit to the WOGL-FM 98.1 studios in Bala Cynwyd, Pa. the early morning of March 4, 2000, 2:00 - 2:50 a.m. My friend Bill Matter on Sunday morning overnight. We miss Bill who left us in 2011. Recorded on regular 8mm videotape and played back for the first time yesterday.

On November 9, 1987, both WIOQ-FM and WOGL-FM became oldies stations in Philadelphia. This brought the total of four oldies stations in the market. WFIL-AM 560 and WPGR-AM 1540 were the other two stations. WIOQ succumbed to the format battle and WOGL emerged as the winner.

These jingles by Frank Gari, (best known for producing news theme music) ran on WOGL-FM in the late 1980s. It was the first jinle package used by WOGL, after they dropped the Hoy Hits format as WCAU-FM. This package was also used on WCBS-FM in the early 1980s. I don't know of any other station that used it. If there was another, please let me know below.

WOGL
WOGL is an FM radio station in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.
The station airs a classic hits format. WOGL is owned by CBS Radio. Its transmitter is located in the Roxborough section of Philadelphia, while studios are in Philadelphia.
The station has previously been known as Oldies 98 and Oldies 98.1.
History
The station began experimentally at 42.1 MHz as W3XIR, followed two years later (1941) by W69PH at 46.9 Mc. When the FCC moved the FM band to its present location, it became WCAU-FM at 102.7 and some time later, moved to 95.5, and finally, its present 98.1. WCAU-FM simulcast the MOR format on WCAU (AM) 1210 until 1966, when it, along with other CBS FM stations, presented "The Young Sound" format: an instrumental-oriented type of pseudo-rock music. In the fall of 1969, WCAU-FM replaced "The Young Sound" with an automated oldies format. The format featured the voice of Jim Nettleton and others. Live air personalities were eventually added. The station played the hits from 1955 up to and including some current product.
