Filmmaker Ridley Scott is 76 years old, but you wouldn’t know it from his prodigious output. He’s got 22 features under his belt, and between 2000-2014, he’ll have directed twelve feature-length projects (that’s 1.16 films a year if you wanna get nerdy about it). “Filmmaking for him must be like breathing.” Joel Edgerton told Entertainment Weekly about his “Exodus: Gods And Kings” director. “He’s got all the passion of a young filmmaker,” the lead actor Christian Bale said. “He’s not jaded.”

Scott's latest, the aforementioned "Exodus: Gods & Kings" is an account of Moses' hand in leading the Israelite slaves out of Egypt. “He’s one of the most fascinating characters that I’ve ever studied,” Bale told the magazine of playing Moses. “I think Achilles is described as the most passionate man alive but I think Moses would give him a very good run for his money.”

But is it this tale simply retold as an action film? Well, kinda. A new trailer has arrived and it's quite bombastic. That said, with a December 12th, Oscar-friendly release date, it's probably akin to "Gladiator," a swords and sandals drama with an action bent. "Exodus" also stars Aaron Paul, Sigourney Weaver, Ben Kingsley, John Turturro, Indira Varma (Ellaria Sand from "Game Of Thrones") and María Valverde (who some might remember from "Cracks," the 2009 indie directed by Ridley's daughter Jordan Scott). New posters and more photos can be seen here.

    Applying makeup to white actors so they can portray non-white roles. How is this not black/brownface?

    Nash Edgerton looks like Ricky Gervais in this, especially on the poster.

    An interesting twist would be if this ended up connected to "Prometheus"

    now we all know why you're a film blogger... your math sucks. 12 films in 14 years is not slightly more than 1 film per year.

    Even then it should have been 12 films in 15 years, it should be 2000-2014 inclusive, which works out at a neat 0.8 films a year.

    great. another biblical epic. aren't we already over this kinda shite?

    @Davey

    i would not describe scorsese's picture as an epic, per se, as it is a low-budget depiction of a poor carpenter's son with identity issues, quite similar to Shutter Island come to think of it. i would say i enjoyed the film but isn't on my must-watch-again-soon list. the others, besides St Matthew, which i haven't seen, are overbearing portrayals of an ushering of a gilded age that never was and never will be. while i have nothing against fantasies, which these films are a sub-genre, i do attest that they are absolutely bereft of any mature or meaningful insight, the very themes they attempt to depict.

    @Rod

    "what biblical epic stands out as original, daring, touching, witty, or even inspiring?"

    I'd definitely put THE LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST, THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO ST. MATTHEW, INTOLERANCE, and NOAH on that list. Others: THE TEN COMMANDMENTS (both versions from De Mille), THE PRINCE OF EGYPT, THE MIRACLE MAKER. All original, daring, touching, witty, and/or inspiring, among other things, and at least a couple of these titles frequently figure into conversations about the best movies ever. Dismissing an entire genre out of hand usually isn't the greatest idea.

    @Tally

    huh?

    what biblical epic stands out as original, daring, touching, witty, or even inspiring? they are bloated tales of divine stupidity wrapped up in a festering moral no characters in their story even abide by. [if i owned a fedora, here's where i'd be tipping it]

    Over your fedora, buddy.
