the goth subculture
the goth subculture
so this is my big ol' video about the goth subculture itself. (requested by Dare YoutoDye) to sum up what i said in the video in text form: first the definition of definition: goth n. 1. A style of rock music, noted especially for somber or ethereal tones and lugubrious lyrics. 2. A performer or follower of this style of music. in some way every goth loves goth rock, whether it be the music it's self, the look of the artists/musicians, the fashion (which is derived from the music), the personality (which is embodied by the music), the style of dance (which is inspired by the music) etc goth rock is and always will be a massive part of the goth subculture as that is what the subculture is founded on and around. it is what's played at our parties/bars, it's on our clothing, it's in our art. it is the embodiment of musical darkness, the love of beautiful things, nature, acceptance etc. it is part of being a goth. goths like goth rock, metal heads like metal, punks like punk rock etc The goth subculture was founded on the goth rock music, as such the music is a huge part of the subculture. The Goth subculture came form punk rock. It started in the late 70's The "requirements" (note the air quotes) are having a love, respect, and interest in the following: Art: Gothic art can be related to several things, the oldest being that of the Gargoyles, crosses, and architectural designs that began in the 12th century and that was later revived in the 1700 hundreds and continued until the end of the Victorian era. Literature: dark, horror type books are most common as are authors like: Edgar Allen Poe, Mary Shelley, Oscar Wilde, Emily Bronte, Bram Stoker, and Charles Dickens (yes, Dickens). Music: The first use of the term Gothic in music was penned to describe the band Joy Division. Many other bands from the late '70s and into the '80s were called Gothic as well including The Cure, Bauhaus, The Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie and The Banshee's and many more. Film & TV: The horror genre Movies/books like Dracula, Mindset: Finding beauty in the odd, dark, etc.. Having a sense of humor that some people may see as snarky and creepy. Loving all things creepy, ooky, spooky, weird, old, odd, and sometimes silly. Having a respect for nature and all that are in it and being open minded. Fashion: now the gothy fashion isn't really necessary. But everyone knows that there are staples to many Goths wardrobes, mainly a lot of black and darker color. Lace, velvet, pleather, brocades, spikes, chains, corsets, band shirts, skirts, chokers and even cybermalls/dreads. Cyberfalls/dreads are more common with the cyber goth style of goth fashion. Ultimately goths dress in what they feel most comfortable in. There are around 28 different styles of Goth fashion. Art/Creativity - Goths are very artistic creatures. Nearly all Goths are artists in some way weather that's acting, painting, sewing/crafts, writing, etc. Many goths are very into making/altering their own clothing, giving them a more unique look. (I'm one of these people.) Music - Often some of the people who take the lifestyle more "seriously" tend to try to validate themselves by bully others for not liking the same music as them. Goths main interests when it comes to music is post-punk, Goth rock, death rock & dark wave EBM is also popular amongst goths mainly the ones who dressing the Cybergoth type of Goth fashion. What they listen to outside of this is personal choice and preference and will make you no more or less of a Goth than the next person. A love for darker aesthetic - It's not just a stereotype. Most Goths like "spooky" things on some level. That doesn't mean all Goths like cobwebs and vampires. Individuality - Goths like to do things because they want to. Not because they have to because it's what's trending in the "mainstream". We are very heavily into being ourselves, doing what we like and enjoying ourselves regardless of what others think. Knowledge - most Goths are usually well read, open minded, enjoy learning (even if they don't care for school), and usually have a large vocabulary. Research and understanding the roots of the Goth subculture is also usually pretty important. ________________________________ tumblr: http://thetribalmoth.tumblr.com/ vampirefreaks: http://vampirefreaks.com/nevereyes- published: 13 Jan 2014

Elitism in Goth Subculture
My opinion on Elitism. The specific inspiration for this video was another video on YouTube that I will not name that was very rude, insulting, and aggressively against anyone who called themselves Elitist with the very clear distinction of never caring to get to know any of them ever, therefor lumping them all into one giant group of awful. Please be respectful to myself and others. I'd love to hear any agreements or disagreements that are expressed kindly. Of course every situation is different but if I thought you all would care to listen to me list off every single situation and my views on them all I would've posted the one hour video I recorded. So give me the benefit of the doubt and ask before assuming. I'd love for this to be a discussion and I can always post another video if enough people show interest in me speaking more in depth about a certain part. Thanks for watching.- published: 09 Aug 2013
