A signature song is the one song (or, in some cases, one of a few songs) that a popular and well-established singer or band is most closely identified with or best known for, even if they have had success with a variety of songs. Signature songs can be the result of spontaneous public identification and/or a marketing tool developed by the music industry to promote artists, sell their recordings, and develop a fan base.

A signature song is important for many artists. Bands with a signature song often choose to perform it at every concert appearance. Marketing programs by recording companies and fan expectations for these signature songs sometimes result in the artist's having difficulty performing other kinds of music. Two well-known examples of this phenomenon are Ricky Nelson's ill-treatment by his fans at Madison Square Garden in 1971 (see "Garden Party") and Merle Haggard's public fight with Capitol Records to release his tribute album of Bob Wills dance songs after the success of "Okie from Muskogee" in 1969.

Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American recording artist, entertainer, and businessman. Often referred to as the King of Pop, or by his initials MJ, Jackson is recognized as the most successful entertainer of all time by Guinness World Records. His contribution to music, dance, and fashion, along with a much-publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades. The seventh child of the Jackson family, he debuted on the professional music scene along with his brothers as a member of The Jackson 5 in 1964, and began his solo career in 1971.

In the early 1980s, Jackson became a dominant figure in popular music. The music videos for his songs, including those of "Beat It", "Billie Jean", and "Thriller", were credited with transforming the medium into an art form and a promotional tool, and the popularity of these videos helped to bring the relatively new television channel MTV to fame. Videos such as "Black or White" and "Scream" made him a staple on MTV in the 1990s. Through stage performances and music videos, Jackson popularized a number of complicated dance techniques, such as the robot and the moonwalk, to which he gave the name. His distinctive musical sound and vocal style influenced numerous hip hop, post-disco, contemporary R&B, pop and rock artists.

Ernie Haase (born December 12, 1964 in Cynthiana, Indiana, grew up in Newburgh). He is best known as the former tenor singer of the Southern gospel group The Cathedrals (Ret 1999). After the Cathedrals' retirement, Haase became the founder of Ernie Haase and Signature Sound.

The Cathedrals' bass singer, George Younce witnesses Haase' performance and invited him to join the Cathedrals as their tenor.

After the Cathedral Quartet retired in 1999, he embarked upon a solo career for several years. In addition to his solo concerts, he performed from 2001 through 2003 with Jake Hess, Wesley Pritchard, and George Younce in the Old Friends Quartet. After the Old Friends Quartet disbanded due to the ill health of George Younce and Jake Hess, Haase founded the group, Signature Sound. The group was rebranded, "Ernie Haase and Signature Sound", to avoid confusion with other similarly named groups and also as a way to take advantage of Haase's popularity as the final tenor for the Cathedral Quartet.

Ernie Haase married George Younce's third daughter Lisa in 1990 after a brief courtship.

Lal Jose is an Indian film director. His debut film as a director is Oru Maravathoor Kanavu (1998). His popular films include Meesa Madhavan (2002), Chanthupottu (2005), Classmates (2006) and Arabikkatha (2007).

Born in Valapad in Thrissur, Kerala, Lal Jose did his schooling at NSS KPT School and NSS College Ottapalam. After completing his degree, he left for Chennai, with an aim of getting into movies. He got into the world of cinema by assisting noted director Kamal. He worked with Kamal in 16 films, from Pradheshika Varthakkal to Krishnagudiyil Oru Pranayakalathu. He also worked as associate director to prominent filmmakers like Thampy Kannamthanam, Lohithadas, Harikumar, Vinayan, K. K. Haridas, and Nizar. In 1998, he made his debut as an independent director with Oru Maravathoor Kanavu, which starred Mammootty and was scripted by Sreenivasan. It was actor Mammooty who asked Lal Jose to direct a film for him. The huge success of his debut movie Oru Maravathoor Kanavu earned him a positive reputation. The photography and narration style was appreciated by many critics. His next venture was Chandranudikkunna Dikhil in 2000, with Dileep as hero, which did well at the box office. In 2001, Lal Jose directed Randaam Bhavam starring Suresh Gopi. Even though was critically appreciated, this film flawed at the box office. In later years, it was widely acclaimed later as one of the best action films of 2000's.^{[citation needed]}

Josephine Baker (June 3, 1906 – April 12, 1975) was an American-born French dancer, singer, and actress. Born Freda Josephine McDonald in St. Louis, Missouri, she became a citizen of France in 1937. Fluent in both English and French, Baker became an international musical and political icon. She was given such nicknames as the "Bronze Venus", the "Black Pearl", and the "Créole Goddess".

Baker was the first African American female to star in a major motion picture,^[which?] to integrate an American concert hall,^{[citation needed]} and to become a world-famous entertainer. She is also noted for her contributions to the Civil Rights Movement in the United States (she was offered the unofficial leadership of the movement by Coretta Scott King in 1968 following Martin Luther King, Jr.'s assassination, but turned it down), for assisting the French Resistance during World War II, and for being the first American-born woman to receive the French military honor, the Croix de guerre.

Baker was born Freda Josephine McDonald in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Carrie McDonald. Her estate identifies vaudeville drummer Eddie Carson as her natural father. A biography written by her foster son Jean-Claude Baker stated:
