THE WELSH SEASIDE Barmouth
Lovely golden beaches, a fine harbour, railway viaduct across the Mawddach Estuary (which you can walk across via the footpath) and a mountainous backdrop - what's not to like about Barmouth!
The town (population 2500 people) is very pleasant and with good facilties too
Just beyond the Mawddach Estuary the prominent Cadair Idris mountain can be seen - part of the Snowdonian National Park. Also on the other side of the estuary is Fairbourne with its miniature railway. Fairbourne can be reached by ferry. For 'proper' trains you could travel up and down the 'Cambrian Coast' line
Further up the coast is Harlech with its impressive castle. Other resorts abound in this part of Wales, though frankly, Barmouth is hard to beat on a pleasant day
On a sunny day in Summer this small town simply bustles, although there should be plenty enough parking for your car. There's a reasonable number of shops, a funfair and an amusement arcade type thing should you be unfortunate with the weather

The northern end of Barmouth promenade at high water Saturday morning 1st February 2014

This was filmed on 29.12.15 at around 10am. It was flimed at the northern end of the promenade in Barmouth, Gwynedd. High tide was imminent. December 2015 was a very mild monoth but also very wet. Storm after storm battered the Lake District, Lancashire and Yorkshire and the UK had record levels of rainfall.
This was filmed around 14 hours before Storm Frank was due to hit us and there was already a strong breeze and swell building up.

Saturday August 29 2015 at 8.52. A view of the sea here first and then the 7.24 Pwllheli to Birmingham (12.51) train, the 2nd of the day, pulls out of Barmouth station just after a heavy shower. This has one of the great level crossing views in both directions. 205 people a day use this station on average and 2,500 live here. The return fare to Pwllheli is £12 and to Birmingham its £54. Barmouth (Welsh: Abermaw (formal); Y Bermo (colloquial)) is a town in the county of Gwynedd, north-western Wales, lying on the estuary of the River Mawddach and Cardigan Bay.
The town is served by Barmouth railway station.
The town grew around the shipbuilding industry, and more recently as a seaside resort. Notable buildings include the mediaeval Tŷ Gwyn tower house, the 19th century Tŷ Crwn roundhouse prison and St John's Church. There is also a new Lifeboat Visitors' Centre, where visitors can purchase souvenirs, and take a look at the RNLI lifeboat from the viewing gallery. The busy harbour plays host to the annual Three Peaks yacht race. The famous mountaineer and sailor Bill Tilman lived in Barmouth for many years.
Barmouth Bridge, which takes the Cambrian Line over the River Mawddach, was also formerly at the end of the GWR Ruabon Barmouth line, which passed through Bala and Dolgellau. The southern end of the bridge is now the start of the Mawddach Trail, a cycle path and walk way that utilises the old trackbed.

THE WELSH SEASIDE Barmouth
Lovely golden beaches, a fine harbour, railway viaduct across the Mawddach Estuary (which you can walk across via the footpath) and a mountainous backdrop - what's not to like about Barmouth!
The town (population 2500 people) is very pleasant and with good facilties too
Just beyond the Mawddach Estuary the prominent Cadair Idris mountain can be seen - part of the Snowdonian National Park. Also on the other side of the estuary is Fairbourne with its miniature railway. Fairbourne can be reached by ferry. For 'proper' trains you could travel up and down the 'Cambrian Coast' line
Further up the coast is Harlech with its impressive castle. Other resorts abound in this part of Wales, though frankly, Barmouth is hard to beat on a pleasant day
On a sunny day in Summer this small town simply bustles, although there should be plenty enough parking for your car. There's a reasonable number of shops, a funfair and an amusement arcade type thing should you be unfortunate with the weather

Storm after storm battered the Lake District, Lancashire and Yorkshire and the UK had record levels of rainfall.
This was filmed around 14 hours before Storm Frank was due to hit us and there was already a strong breeze and swell building up.

Around the coastline of Great Britain on a Honda C90 for charity (Cancer Research) in 1994. Solo project, no backup van. Staying at bed and breakfast houses and youth hostels. Started at Skegness clock tower and finished at the same place 15 days later travelling clockwise around Great Britain. 3900 miles (give or take a few), averaged 90 - 100mpg carrying a 5 litre backup container in top box. Lost a wing mirror somewhere in Wales. Only problem with bike was the cush pads in the rear wheel hub came loose. Guys at motorcycle repair garage in Bridport fixed it for free of charge. Engine never missed a beat, one oil change, no punctures. Travelled every day apart from staying one extra day in Blackpool for a much needed days break. Longest days ride: Ullapool to Stonehaven. The perfect Welsh seaside trip ends after a day of lots of laughter, damp sand in your toes, a pack of crisply battered fish and chips from a classic coastal chippie and a great spot to eat it. A bit of South Snowdonia and a teensy bit of west Wales ... plus a bit of our caravan in sunny (not) Barmouth.
I'm Cookie Taylor and a couple of years ago I switched to a plant-based lifestyle to lose weight and improve my health. I started out at just under 310lbs with a 58in bust and 66in hips. I've lost 50lbs but want to lose another 100lbs and summit a mountain above Mt Everest Base Camp (18,500ft) in 2016.
I spent 15 years as a depressed, agoraphobic, alcoholic, junk food addict, scared of my own shadow and battling agonisingly low self-esteem. I've slowly but surely rebuilt my life and I'm now living my dreams, challenging myself to constantly step outside my comfort zone and believe in my own potential. It's not easy but I'm getting there.
I believe that anyone can change their life if they take it step by step. We don't have to worry about what others think, we don't have to worry abut being perfect and we don't have to define ourselves by our mistakes. It's what you do 95% of the time that really counts and if you're trying, you're going in the right direction.

Around the coastline of Great Britain on a Honda C90 for charity (Cancer Research) in 1994. Solo project, no backup van. Staying at bed and breakfast houses and youth hostels. Started at Skegness clock tower and finished at the same place 15 days later travelling clockwise around Great Britain. 3900 miles (give or take a few), averaged 90 - 100mpg carrying a 5 litre backup container in top box. Lost a wing mirror somewhere in Wales. Only problem with bike was the cush pads in the rear wheel hub came loose. Guys at motorcycle repair garage in Bridport fixed it for free of charge. Engine never missed a beat, one oil change, no punctures. Travelled every day apart from staying one extra day in Blackpool for a much needed days break. Longest days ride: Ullapool to Stonehaven. Best moment: Sitting on beach at Melon Urdrigle without anyone for miles around (see photo in video of beach)

The body of a woman in her 30s has been discovered on a cycle path along the Mawddach estuary in Gwynedd. North Wales Police said the alarm was raised at about 10.20 GMT on Tuesday on the trail between Penmaenpool, near Dolgellau, and Barmouth. Officers said they are trying to establish the woman's identity but the death is not being treated as suspicious at the moment. The coroner for north west Wales has been informed. ....
