Fill flash is used when you just want to fill in the shadows with your flash. I find it best to use when shooting in the afternoon when harsh shadows are casting on your subject. When this happens, you can either do one of two things. Diffuse that light or use fill flash. I prefer to use fill flash. It's a quick easy way to get it done without the help of others by holding diffusers. Quick Note. I usually start with a flash exposure compensation of -2 EV. But remember, there is no right or wrong here. There is no one setting fits all. It's just personal preference. You need to decide what you like at any point when you use fill-flash.
