History Doesn't Lie [Malaysia's Independent Date]
History Doesn't Lie [Malaysia's Independent Date]
History Doesn't Lie History of the nation has given a misleading facts and figures-Malaysia date of independent Federation of Malaya [States of Malaya] gained its independent from British on 31st August 1956. The discussion of the formation of Federation of Malaysia was carried out even as early as 1962. Countries involved were Federation of Malaya, nations of Singapore, North Borneo [Sabah], Sarawak and even Brunei but Brunei opted out even at the very early period of discussion. It was proposed that 31st August 1963, at the 6th anniversary of Federation of Malaya's Independent would be the ideal declaration and formation of Federation of Malaysia. Problem Indonesia and Philippines opposed the formation of Malaysia. Indonesia considered this was a neo form of colonialism on the province of North Borneo and Sarawak. To satisfy Indonesian, United Nation made out a referendum, led by Lord Cobbold-known Cobbold Commission to find out if North Borneo and Sarawak agreed. Due to this, date of announcement of the formation of Federation of Malaysia was postponed to 16th September 1963 Thus Malaysia was declared formed or Merdeka on 16 September 1963 Race and Religion Based Singapore was expelled from Malaysia in 1965. Malay leaders were of the opinion only if North Borneo and Sarawak included would help balance the population make up, otherwise with Singapore in was far too many Chinese. Such polarization mentality still freshly exits today where race and religion are factors To say Malaysia Merdeka on 31st August 1963 was considered too Malay centric. Ironically, no mentioned of reasons, in Malaysian's school textbooks. If Sabahans and Sarawakians keep muted no one would rectify country's history.- published: 06 Sep 2013

Merdeka 56 Malaysia
Merdeka 56 Malaysia
Malaysian Independence Day Hari Kemerdekaan, or Independence Day, is celebrated on 31 August every year to commemorate the independence of the Federation of Malaya from British colonial rule on 31 August 1957. By virtue of celebrating national independence, it also celebrates the formation of Malaysia. On Hari Kemerdekaan, Malaysians from all walks of life come together to celebrate as one nation. Traditionally, a grand and colourful parade is held at the Dataran Merdeka (Independence Square) in Kuala Lumpur to mark the passage of history in a post-independent Malaysia. The 56th Merdeka Day procession on August 31, is a departure from previous years, moving from national solidarity to national sovereignty. An estimated 16,000 members of the security forces took part in the National Day parade. At Putrajaya, on the stroke of midnight of 31 August, the night sky was illuminated by a massive fireworks display lasting a full 25 minutes from six countries, including the host country, Malaysia. Not only is August 31 a great day to soak in vibrancy of national independence, but also a time of reflection and gratitude as the nation comes of age. Happy birthday, Malaysia.- published: 10 Sep 2013
