CROATIA - Croatian men and women
Who are the Croats? How do Croats look like? By their physical appearance Croats are mostly Dinaric and Nordic with some Mediterranean and Alpine admixtures. Here are some photos of Croatian people. " When God created Earth, he also created all the nations and he gave piece of land to each of it. After he gave all the land to the nations he thought that he finished the job, but then he heard a small voice. " O Father, forgive us, but we don´t have any land, we don´t have any place to go, we are poor and homeless ", the voice said. " Who are you?", God asked. " We are Croats", voice answered. Then God remembered that he forgot to give some land to the Croats. " Oh, Croats, I gave all the land to the nations, but I have left something special, the most beautiful part of Earth for myself to rest there, but since you have no land, I shall give it to you. " And He gave that land to Croats and they named that land Croatia. That is the legend how Croats got their land, the most beautiful country in the world. " Croatia is a country in Europe at the crossroads of Central Europe, Southeast Europe and the Mediterranean. Croatian capital is Zagreb, called "Little Vienna". Croats are an ancient white Indo-European Iranian nation that was later slavicised. Slavic Croats also mixed with ancient Adriatic Illyrians and Germanic Goths so modern Croats are white Indo-European nation with ancient Iranian name, Slavic language and also some Illyrian and Gothic blood. Croats came to the eastern shore of Adriatic Sea at the beginning of the 7th century, they populated the area of about 120 000 km2 (territory of today's Republic of Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and parts of Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia) and established their independant kingdom that was very strong and rich during the Middle Ages. Its unique position on the crossroads of great civilisations and empires has determined its political and military history and very diverse culture. Croats call their homeland Lijepa Naša - Our Beautiful. The nation states of Croats are Republic of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Republic of Croatia covers 56,594 square kilometres (21,851 square miles) and has diverse, mostly continental and mediterranean climates. Croatia's Adriatic Sea coast contains more than a thousand islands. Croats are very proud and honourable people with old, rich and unique culture and heritage. For centuries they defended Europe from invasions from the east. Croatian nation prides itself in its cultural, artistic and scientific contributions to the world, as well as in its cuisine, wines, sporting achievements and heroic military history. Croatian national colours are red, white and blue. Many Croats also live in diaspora outside of Republic of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Few million Croatian émigrés and their descendants live all around the world, on every continent, from Alaska to New Zealand. All together there is about 9 500 000 Croats in the world.- published: 13 Mar 2014

Countdown to WWIII North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) (Organization) The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO; /ˈneɪtoʊ/ nay-toh; French: Organisation du traité de l'Atlantique Nord (OTAN)), also called the (North) Atlantic Alliance, is an intergovernmental military alliance based on the North Atlantic Treaty which was signed on 4 April 1949. The organization constitutes a system of collective defence whereby its member states agree to mutual defense in response to an attack by any external party. NATO's headquarters are in Brussels, Belgium, one of the 28 member states across North America and Europe, the newest of which, Albania and Croatia, joined in April 2009. An additional 22 countries participate in NATO's "Partnership for Peace", with 15 other countries involved in institutionalized dialogue programs. The combined military spending of all NATO members constitutes over 70% of the world's defence spending.[4] For its first few years, NATO was not much more than a political association. However, the Korean War galvanized the member states, and an integrated military structure was built up under the direction of two U.S. supreme commanders. The course of the Cold War led to a rivalry with nations of the Warsaw Pact, which formed in 1955. Doubts over the strength of the relationship between the European states and the United States ebbed and flowed, along with doubts over the credibility of the NATO defence against a prospective Soviet invasion—doubts that led to the development of the independent French nuclear deterrent and the withdrawal of the French from NATO's military structure in 1966.- published: 11 Sep 2013

Rain of Poems over London / Bombardeo de poemas sobre Londres
Rain of Poems took place over London on Tuesday 26th June 2012 at 9pm. One hundred thousand poems printed on bookmarks by over 300 contemporary poets from 204 countries fell from a helicopter over Jubilee Gardens during Poetry Parnassus as the sun sets.
Rain of Poems, created by Casagrande, sees poems dropped over cities bombed during military confrontations in the past. The bookmarks are released at twilight and printed in two languages with texts written by both Chilean writers and
poets native to the location of the Rain of Poems. It has been held in Berlin, Germany (2010), Warsaw, Poland (2009), Guernica, Spain (2004), Dubrovnik, Croatia (2002), and Santiago, Chile (2001). London is the sixth city to host Rain of Poems.
This performance creates an alternative image of the past and is a gesture of remembrance as well as being a metaphor for the survival of cities and people.

VANJA ČERNJUL, ASC - director of photography
www.vanjacernjul.com
Born in Croatia, Vanja Černjul earned his first cinematography degree from the Academy of Dramatic Arts at the University of Zagreb in 1991. Graduation ceremonies coincided with the first political and military actions that triggered the Croatian War of Independence. Days after graduation, he pledged his skills to reporting the upheaval to the rest of the world and joined the ranks of international journalists providing combat footage for international news outlets like BBC, CNN and NBC. Employed directly by Worldwide Televison News (Associated Press TV) and Vis News (Reuters TV), his syndicated coverage of the conflict in the former Yugoslavia took him into hazardous and personally demanding situations that shaped his attitudes towards life, work and aesthetics. In 1995, facing a domestic film industry in collapse and driven by the ambition to become a narrative Director of Photography, Vanja moved to New York and enrolled in the MFA program of the Tisch Graduate School of the Arts at NYU.
He has since photographed 18 feature films, numerous hit television programs and countless other projects with a wide range of collaborators. His feature work has been honored with the Stockholm International Film Festival Best Cinematography Award for Rain (Katherine Lindberg, director), the Pula Film Festival Golden Arena for Best Cinematography for Ćaća (Dalibor Matanić, director), and the Avignon/New York Film Festival Kodak Vision Award for The Photographer (Jeremy Stein, director). Vanja has earned two Primetime Emmy Nominations for "Outstanding Cinematography" for his work on NBCs comedy series 30 Rock and the Showtime/Lions Gate TV series Nurse Jackie. His work on the HBO TV series Bored to Death has been nominated for the ASC Award for cinematography.
In 2013, Vanja's induction into the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC), recognized his track record of creative and professional excellence. He is also an active member of the International Cinematographers Guild (IATSE Local 600), Imago (European Federation of Cinematographers), HFS (Croatian Society of Cinematographers) and The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences .
Vanja Černjul’s recent work includes feature films City Island (Raymond De Felitta, director), Violet and Daisy (Geoffrey Fletcher, director) and The English Teacher (Craig Zisk, director) and the Netflix original series Orange is the New Black (Jenji Cohan, creator) and Marco Polo (John Fusco, creator). Vanja is based in New York City.

"Declaration of War on the US by Adolf Hitler"
"Deputies, Men of the German Reichstag! A year of events of historical significance is drawing to an end. A year of great decisions lies ahead. In these serious times, I speak to you, deputies of the German Reichstag, as the representatives of the German nation. Beyond and above that, the whole German people should take note of this glance into the past, as well as of the coming decisions the present and future impose upon us.
After the renewed refusal of my peace offer in January 1940 by the then British Prime Minister and the clique which supported or dominated him, it became clear that this war - against all reasons of common sense and necessity - must be fought to its end. You know me, my old Party companions; you know I have always been an enemy of half measures or weak decisions.
If the Providence has so willed that the German people cannot be spared this fight, then I can only be grateful that it entrusted me with the leadership in this historic struggle which, for the next 500 or 1,000 years, will be described as decisive, not only for the history of Germany, but for the whole of Europe and indeed the whole world.
The German people and their soldiers are working and fighting today, not only for the present, but also for the coming, nay the most distant, generations. The Creator has imposed a historical revision on a unique scale upon us.
Shortly after the end of the campaign in Norway, the German Command was forced, first of all, to ensure the military security of the conquered areas. Since then the defences of the conquered countries have changed considerably. From Kirkenes to the Spanish Frontier there is a belt of great bases and fortifications; many airfields have been built, naval bases with protection for submarines, which are practically invulnerable from sea or air.
More than 1,500 new batteries have been planned and constructed. A network of roads and railways was constructed so that today communications from the Spanish Frontier to Petsano are independent of the sea. These installations in no way fall behind those of the Western Wall, and work continues incessantly on strengthening them. I am irrevocably determined to make the European Front unassailable by any enemy.
This defensive work was supplemented by offensive warfare. German surface and underwater naval Forces carried on their constant war of attrition against the British Merchant Navy and the ships in its service. The German Air Force supported these attacks by reconnaissance, by damaging enemy shipping, by numerous retaliatory raids which have given the English a better idea of the ‘ ever so charming ’ war caused by their present Prime Minister.
In the middle of last year Germany was supported above all by Italy. For many months a great part of British power weighed heavily on the shoulders of Italy. Only because of their tremendous superiority in heavy tanks could the English create a temporary crisis in North Africa. On 24th March a small community of German-Italian units under Rommel's command began the counter-attack.
The German Africa Corps performed outstanding achievements though they were completely unaccustomed to the climate of this theatre of war. Just as once in Spain, now in North Africa Germans and Italians have taken up arms against the same enemy.
While with these bold measures the North African Front was again secured by the blood of German and Italian soldiers, the shadow of a terrible danger threatening Europe gathered overhead. Only in obedience of bitter necessity did I decide in my heart in 1939, to make the attempt, or at least, to create the prerequisites for a lasting peace in Europe by eliminating the causes of German-Russian tension.
This was psychologically difficult owing to the general attitude of the German people, and above all, of the party, towards Bolshevism. It was not difficult from a purely material point of view - because Germany was only intent on her economic interests in all the territories which England declared to be threatened by us and which she attacked with her promises of aid- for you will allow me to remind you that England, throughout the spring and late summer of 1939, offered its aid to numerous countries, declaring that it was our intention to invade those countries and thus deprive them of their liberty.
The German Reich and its Government were therefore able to affirm, with a clear conscience, that these allegations were false and had no bearing whatsoever on reality. Add to this the military realization that in the case of war, which British diplomacy was to force on the German people, a two front war would ensue and call for very great sacrifice.
When, on top of all this, the Baltic States and Rumania showed themselves prone to accept the British Pacts of assistance, and thus let it be seen

Earlier today I was video interviewed over Skype by New York Times journalist Robert Mackey about my coverage of events in Libya and Syria and my criticisms of the mainstream western and GCC media in relation to events in those countries.
This was my first interview by a mainstream western media organisation and I have been told that the video will be published in full tomorrow.
Prior to the interview I was sent three questions outlining the general topics that would be covered in the interview. In some ways the interview veered away from these topics and so here I will publish the questions that were outlined prior to the interview and publish my full answers to them, just because I feel like it is important that full responses are given to these questions in particular, and while I made most of these points in the interview, there are some points that I omitted.
NYT's Robert Mackey
ROBERT MACKEY: Since your impressions of what is happening in Syria seem to be strikingly different from those of many foreign reporters who have worked there recently, I wanted to ask you about how you found your sources and what you think accounts for the different picture painted of the conflict by other journalists.
Lizzie Phelan
LIZZIE PHELAN: First of all I hope that you will give me the opportunity to answer all of your questions in full, so that the context which is always lacking can be provided. I also hope that you will ask all the questions that you proposed when I agreed to do this interview. If not I will myself publish the full questions and my full answers.
This question is flawed, because what you really mean is that my impressions of what is happening in Syria seem to be strikingly different from those reporters from the NATO and GCC countries which have a vested interest in destabilising Syria. Of course my impressions are actually shared by the majority people of this world, from those countries outside of NATO and the GCC and particularly those which are victims of these powers. But because they do not own a powerful media their voices are drowned out by the impressions of the minority reflected in the mainstream media of the NATO and GCC countries.
So in relation to my sources, I find my sources through a number of different means, but my main means is I talk to ordinary people every where I go and in Syria this is not difficult because people are really keen to speak about the crisis in their country, especially to foreigners who they feel strongly have a false impression about their country and current events. This was overwhelmingly, but of course not exclusively, the point of view that I encountered. And this is reflected in my reporting.
In fact, like in Libya, I was so overwhelmed by the volume of people that wanted to talk about their anger at the fabrications in the media of the NATO and GCC countries that my colleague Mostafa Afzalzadeh and I decided to make a documentary so that we could reflect what ordinary Syrian people are really saying. This documentary will actually expose how if it was not for such media the crisis in Syria would have been over before it started and the people of Syria would be living in peace now.
The difference with journalists from mainstream media in NATO and GCC countries is that they come with an agenda, and that agenda is to cover what they call is a “revolution” happening inside Syria and to give substance to the false claims that the Syrian government is a threat to the Syrian people. So if for example they walk down the street and they have 10 people telling them there is no revolution happening in Syria and actually the people want the army to protect them from the terrorists that are flooding the country, and then they have one person who tells them that there is no democracy in Syria, they will discard the 10 as government spies and run with the one person who said something different, I witnessed this myself.
If they were to do the reverse and reflect the majority view on the street, then this would undermine the coverage of their media organisations over the previous 10 months that have painted a picture of a government hated by its people, and in turn it would undermine their own credibility as journalists working for those organisations.
But in time they will not be able to supress the truth. However, like in Libya the danger is that the truth only comes out when it is too late, when a country has been successfully destroyed by the NATO and GCC countries, with the vital help of their media. Then the western media can afford to be more honest, although never entirely, because the aims, for example of regime change, of their paymasters have been achieved.
I on the other hand am not concerned

Catholic CROATIA - Tradition & Honour
CROATIA - We stand on guard for Sacred Catholic Europe! We protect our Catholic European Croatian heritage and tradition! For God, Sacred Catholic Europe, Eternal Croatia and our national honour! All together there is about 9 500 000 Croats in the world.- published: 16 Mar 2014
