To name and shame is to "publicly say that a person, group or business has done something wrong". It is used to discourage some kinds of activity (including anti-social or criminal) by publishing the names of those involved.

It has been used variously against customers of prostitutes, shoplifters, abortionists, homosexuals (see "outing"), graffiti artists, and spies.

The Rat Book was launched late in 2009 as the UK's biggest name and shame website ([1]). By January 2010, The Rat Book contained the details of over 14,000 criminal charges and convictions in the UK, including paedophilia, rape, murder, violent crime, abuse, and terrorism. Users of the website had the ability to browse through The Rat Book's online crime database by clicking their location on an interactive map, allowing them to view crime and criminals specific to where they are from in the UK.

In July 2010, the Rat Book ceased to exist after its owner, Johnny Morrissey, was publicly revealed by angry victims of miscarriages of justice whose details appeared on the site. The Rat Book was also criticised for naming people before being convicted, and for retaining details of people who had been found not guilty of the offences they were accused of.

David Kilgour, PC (born February 18, 1941 in Winnipeg, Manitoba) is a former Canadian politician.

Kilgour graduated from the University of Manitoba in economics in 1962 and the University of Toronto law school in 1966. From crown attorney in northern Alberta to Canadian Cabinet minister, Kilgour ended his 27 year tenure in the Canadian House of Commons as an Independent MP. Upon retirement, he was one of the longest current serving Members of Parliament and one of the very few who had been elected under both the Progressive Conservative and Liberal banners.

Kilgour was originally elected as a member of the Progressive Conservative Party in 1979. However, his first attempt at election, in the 1968 federal election in the riding of Vancouver Centre as a Progressive Conservative was unsuccessful. He ran again as a Tory in the 1979 election in Edmonton, and was a Member of Parliament for about 27 years. In October 1990, he, along with Pat Nowlan of Nova Scotia and Alex Kindy of Calgary, were expelled from the Tory national caucus in protest over their vote against the Goods and Services Tax. He sat as an independent for several months before joining the Liberals.

Derryn Nigel Hinch (born 9 February 1944 in New Plymouth, New Zealand, now an Australian citizen) is an Australian media personality best known for his work on Melbourne radio. He is currently the host of 3AW's drive time radio show. He has also been a police reporter, foreign correspondent, newspaper editor, television show host, novelist and vintner.

Hinch has been married four times, including twice to Australian actress Jacki Weaver. He married Chanel Hayton in February 2006.

Hinch began his career at the age of 15 with the Taranaki Herald in New Zealand. In 1963, he came to Australia on the MV Wanganella and joined The Sydney Morning Herald. By 1968 he had become a foreign correspondent for the Fairfax organisation, and finally moved to New York as bureau chief. He remained in the United States for eleven years.

Hinch starred as The Criminologist in the Australian tour of The Rocky Horror Show plus, has appeared as himself in The Wog Boy with Nick Giannopoulos. He has also made cameo appearances on Fast Forward.
