YUVA meet
“Innovation starts with the mind”, said Dr. R.K. Pachauri at the inaugural session of the TERI YUVA Meet 2014 held on the 3rd and 4th of February in New Delhi. The Yuva Meet (short for Youth Unite for Voluntary Action) is an annual special event of the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit. It aims to provide a platform to young voices and stakeholders who are becoming ever so important in present times. The theme of the conference this year was ‘Innovations for a Sustainable Future – Transforming Learning into Action’. Some highlights of the meet included Thematic Workshops on the topics of the DSDS, namely energy, food and water security, a youth panel discussion (moderated by me) and expert sessions on understanding ‘Innovation in Sustainability’.
CANCER TRAIN: Is it really a medical mystery?
Since the last decade or so, a strange phenomena has been taking place in the cotton belt of Punjab consisting of the districts of Bathinda, Mansa, Moga, Sangrur, Faridkot and Barnala. In fact, ‘strange’ may not quite describe it –‘shocking’ and ‘sad’ seem more apt. Every night the Abohar-Bikaner passenger train faithfully transports men and women from the Malwa region to hospitals in Bikaner where they undergo treatment for the same disease – Cancer. Is it too much of a coincidence that the so-called ‘prosperous’ belt of Punjab is turning cancerous ?

BBC Media Action’s Climate Asia Project launches report on India
On 19th September 2013, IYCN attended the launch of BBC Media Action’s Climate Asia Project Report on India. The event saw participation from social scientists, policy makers, journalists and youth organisations.
Climate Asia is arguably the world’s largest study of people’s daily experiences of Climate Change in 7 Asian Countries namely. The Project surveyed 33,500 people across Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Vietnam and Pakistan.
