AN already disastrous SEABL campaign turned several shades darker for the Albury-Wodonga Lady Bandits on Saturday night, beaten 106-84 by fellow strugglers Sandringham.
The 22-point defeat was the Border outfit’s 12th straight loss and ensured they remained winless on the road.
Having defeated the Lady Sabres in round three, Albury-Wodonga went in with high hopes, but instead were outplayed in every facet of the game.
The Lady Bandits were swept away by Sandringham’s three-headed monster of Mikaela Dombkins, Hope Walker and Micaela Cocks, who all enjoyed a big night.
Dombkins and Walker led the way with 25 and 24 points respectively while Cocks was sublime in a near triple-double of 20 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists, as well as four steals.
Lady Bandits coach James Ballinger said the club was bitterly disappointed to again lose what they had tagged as a winnable game.
“It was a game we really wanted to, and expected to win,” he said.
“But we didn’t and that’s extremely disappointing.
“We had some good patches, 84 points is usually enough to win a game of basketball.
“But this isn’t a league where you can feel too sorry for yourself.
“It’s a team we’d beaten previously but we gave up too many open looks and their shooters are far too good to leave open that often.”
Albury-Wodonga was led by imports Emilee Harmon (26 points, 16 rebounds) and Rachel Maenpaa (25 points), while Sophie Kleeman scored a career-high 16 points.
But the harsh reality is once again, the Border club was unable to perform even adequately at the defensive end, especially in transition.
