THE Kangaroo Hoppet cross country ski race at Falls Creek is now a world-recognised event.
Last year there were almost 1100 competitors from 28 countries taking part.
Coverage of the event was shown around the globe and the Victorian government will ensure that continues as the event grows in status.
The government is providing $10,000 to enable national and international coverage.
It is money well spent in the promotion of an idyllic place in the beautiful alpine country.
This will be the 24th Hoppett and, just like last year, it will attract some of the world’s elite cross country skiing exponents.
A live stream will be shown through Fairfax websites along with a 26-minute highlights package distributed through Eurovision and the European Broadcasting Union.
The government funding comes from Tourism Victoria, which realises the importance of promoting such events.
Tourism in regional areas, particularly the North East, continues to grow at a significant rate.
It generates almost $20 billion annually and provides more than 200,000 people with jobs statewide.
